The United Nations General Assembly Thursday approved a gun control treaty that calls on all nations to work together "to prevent, combat and eradicate the illicit manufacturing of and trafficking in firearms, their parts and components, and ammunition."

The treaty commits governments to adopting legislation making the illicit manufacture and sale of firearms a criminal offense, and authorizing the confiscation of arms that have been illicitly made or sold.

Trent Seibert has taken yellow journalism to a new level in Colorado with his May 28 story which defames Bob Glass and the civil rights group for which Glass serves as president.
The Oxford dictionary describes yellow journalism as referring to "newspapers (or writers of newspaper articles) of a recklessly or unscrupulously sensational character." Seibert fits the definition precisely with his article, "ADL looks into gun group's tactics: Tyranny team 'in your face'"

The North Carolina Court of Appeals has ruled against a home-school family who said social workers are bound by the U.S. Constitution. The case began in September 1999, when home-schooling parents Jim and Mary Ann Stumbo of Kings Mountain, North Carolina, were visited by a worker from child protective services. The agency had been called by a neighbor who saw the Stumbo's two-year-old daughter run out of her family's home without any clothes on while chasing the family cat.

A gun-control group is claiming its first victory in Maine, albeit a small one: The Legislature has given final approval to a law that orders some of the handguns that police seize to be destroyed.

The law would not take more than a handful of guns out of circulation each year, but the victory is important symbolically, said William Harwood, president of Maine Citizens Against Handgun Violence, the group that lobbied for its passage.

Albuquerque Mayor Jim Baca's proposal to opt out of a new state law and to ban concealed handguns appears to be a long shot with the City Council. A majority of the 9 council members said last week they are not inclined to ban concealed handguns in Albuquerque, when it would be legal in other parts of the state.

"I'm going to try and convince the councilors (that banning concealed handguns) is the right thing to do even if it's an uphill battle."

The 1939 Supreme Court case of United States v. Miller is the best thing that the gun-prohibition groups have left, legally speaking. Astute media-watchers have been noticing that the Washington Post, despite its liberal reputation, has been getting ever more objective and careful in its news reporting. Meanwhile, the New York Times, despite its reputation for objectivity and accuracy, has been getting ever sloppier, and trending further and further left in its reporting.

Forbes magazine reports that new federal rule changes relating to your medical records is a "prescription for snooping by government officials and others" and "will only open more files to unwarranted view."

The Forbes article confirms earlier reports on NewsMax.com that the new regulations, said to protect the privacy of personal medical records, actually allows for a massive government invasion of patient privacy.

They are suggesting that July 9th be the day you set aside to buy that rifle, pistol or shotgun you've had your eye on - NATIONAL FIREARM PURCHASE DAY.

In addition, you can use July 9 as a day to buy ammunition, purchase supplies, get in a little target practice, and support your local gun dealers and ranges by throwing some business their way! --Missouri Chapter of SAS

Project Exile: Finally, something the NRA and HCI can agree on. Joined in a clarion call to "enforce the laws on the books," the National Rifle Association and Handgun Control Inc. both support the 1997 experimental expansion of federal law enforcement power, coming soon to a city near you.

~~When HCI agrees with the NRA, someone needs to read the fine print!

"For years, Michael and JoAnn McGuckin kept their children close to their dilapidated rural home, fearing illness and imagined government plots to take the home and split up the family. Now the six youngest, ages 8 to 16, are holed up inside with a stash of rifles and a pack of vicious dogs."

KABA NOTE: Beware! There is a lot of "news" in this article THAT MAY NOT BE TRUE! We don't know what is going on there. But we do know, from experience, that much of what reads in these cases as "fact" is often fabrication.

In less than two weeks, barring a dramatic change of heart in Attorney General John Ashcroft, the most important piece of evidence in the Oklahoma City bombing six years ago will be destroyed.

That "evidence," as ironic as it sounds, is Timothy McVeigh. Only McVeigh can piece together the rapidly-changing puzzle that is the OKC bombing case, yet Ashcroft wants to kill this evidence despite lots of other evidence that is beginning to refute what we thought we knew.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Gun-related crime has plunged 40% in recent years, while the number of guns in circulation has reached an all-time high, according to the DOJ -- and that's terrible news for supporters of gun control.

Data released last week by the FBI shows that gunshot wounds inflicted during crimes dropped to 39,400 from 64,100 nationwide between 1992 and 1997 -- a decrease of 40%. But during the same five years, the number of guns in America surged to 230 million from 205 million.

The attempt this year to reprise last year's Million Mom March was a dud, attracting only about 200 demonstrators, and the Democrats' political gurus are whining about how Al Gore's pro-gun-control stance cost him votes last year in crucial states. So the anti-gun activists have moved to a less democratic venue: the United Nations.
The purpose of this conference is to demonize the private ownership of guns and get governments to confiscate all privately owned guns.

Antigun people go through a shoot/no-shoot simulator and screw up. Conclusion? Guns aren't any good for self-defense.

"The message of a gun is: You can take care of yourself," Jordan said. "In fact, we need our neighbors to help take care of ourselves. It's the wrong signal to people to say, Here's technology that you can use to take care of yourself. Our response is: Get to know your neighbors, form phone trees, talk to each other, recognize suspicious activity on the street..."
