In 2010, parties exist, disagreements continue, but the issues on the minds of most candidates are very similar: The economy. Jobs. Education. The budget. Healthcare.
To a lesser extent? Immigration. Gun control. Issues that used to jump out of every election are background in 2010. As the upcoming election approaches, heres an informational look at the issues considered most important in this election by some of the principals in the Nevada political scene as the recession dies down and recovery struggles to begin. |

Unless a developing lawsuit by restaurant servers is successful, Tennesseans will soon have the right to pack heat in any restaurant or bar that serves alcohol and doesn't explicitly forbid it.
The bright side is that people have the right to show their displeasure with this new policy in two ways. First, don't patronize restaurants and bars without signs in the window barring entry to armed patrons. |

It's a pretty interesting thought. The freedoms that this country enjoys the very liberties that were so new and groundbreaking when this nation was formed more than 200 years ago are easily enumerated.
They are often exercised. Reporters are quick to haul out the First Amendment when sources try to hide facts. Lawyers rely on the Sixth, Seventh and Eight Amendments when defending their clients. Gun owners zealously guard the guarantees of the Second Amendment.
They should. These amendments the entire Constitution are intended to be actively exercised in this free society of laws and not men. |

When I was a kid, you could play with toy guns anywhere you wanted that looked just like the real things. My friends and I spent many a day playing cops and robbers around the neighborhood without even thinking the toy guns were dangerous. Today toy guns can get you shot by police with a real gun if you arent careful.
A designer at Thingiverse going by juniortran has offered up the files and plans needed to build yourself a iPhone case that looks like a Ruger LCR Revolver. To make your own you will need access to a 3D printer though, which most of us dont have lying around the house. |

In an answer to George Anderson's letter (DJ-5/5), we believe you should look up what ... is. As for We the People of the United States, we do not want dictators telling us when and what to think and do.
We want freedom, to make our own decision, such as health care. We want freedom to worship and to bear arms. We are going to fight, and our servicemen and servicewomen have fought and died for freedom. |

Memorial Day is a day to recognize the sacrifice of all the men and women who have given their lives in defending our country. It began during the Civil War when cities and towns held special days to lay flowers on the graves of fallen, husbands, sons, and fathers. Women of the fallen who organized groups to place flowers on the graves of their loved ones may have started it.
Memorial Day has grown over the years to be commemorated with flag waving ceremonies, military parades and memorial services held at military cemeteries and parks across America. Many cities and towns line the streets with the American Flag and some do not. Patriotic citizens fly the flag in front of their homes on days like this, do you? |

American gun owners might not feel besieged, but they should. This week, the Obama administration announced its support for the United Nations Small Arms Treaty. This international agreement poses real risks for freedom both in the United States and around the world by making it more difficult - if not outright illegal - for law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms.
...
First of all, not all insurgencies are bad. As U.S. history shows, one way to get rid of a despotic regime is to rise up against it. That threat is why authoritarian regimes such as Syria, Cuba, Rwanda, Vietnam, Zimbabwe and Sierra Leone endorse gun control. |

A lawmaker has opposed a plan of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to extend the total gun ban coverage beyond the end of the election period, saying that he will introduce a bill that would ensure the right of individuals to carry firearms.
Nueva Ecija Representative Rodolfo Antonino said the PNP could not just opt to extend the gun ban after granting firearm licenses and permits to carry to gun owners.
The gun ban ends on June 9.
Antonino, chairman of the House committee on public order and safety, said there was no provision in the law barring Filipino citizens from carrying guns. |

One of the brothers used pepper spray and Rice was allegedly hit by the spray, but during the altercation he stabbed the brother who did not have the pepper spray, according to the testimony.
At first, Miller granted Rice immunity but then, realizing Rice had not stabbed the man who actually pepper-sprayed him, the judge changed his mind.
He cant just say, I was pepper-sprayed, so I could stab everybody there, Miller said. If the pope is standing next to you when somebody sprays you from 25 to 30 feet away with mace, are you going to stab the pope? |

That statement, in one form or another, is a misguided talking point commonly used by gun-control advocates. They fail to see that it recognizes only a distinct minority of our population (the police) who are granted special privilege to carry guns while the average citizen cannot. That selectivity begs the question: Why should their safety be any more important than that of every one of us; shouldnt the average citizen also be empowered to deal with the common criminal in issues of self-defense?
Unfortunately, in many states, we are not. Taking away our guns has, ironically, granted a special privilege to lawbreakers as well. The predators have the distinct advantage of being armed while their prey is not. |

While people tend to read magazines, those who prefer to point a gun at them might pick up the July issue of Field & Stream. Shoot this magazine! the cover reads, and inside is a pull-out target that spells out I (Heart) Guns. This is something you cannot do with an iPad, Philip Bourjaily, the shotguns editor, said, then rethought that statement. You can take it out and shoot it, but its prohibitively expensive. The magazine is promoting a new Outdoor Channel television show that stars its two gun editors and is based on Gun Nuts, the most popular blog on its Web site. |

"It's not like we haven't seen arbitrary rulings and reversals before. Can anyone say for certain they know how ATF will treat past accepted practices under this new ruling, and if the interpretation will be the same a week, a month, a year from now...?"
"And what concerns should we have that bureau rulings are issued by administrative edict under signature of an unelected acting official, without opportunity for public comment and apparently outside the scope of Federal Register rule development protocols and protections?" |
