Hunting keeps Alpena County resident Allen Shaw connected to family, as well as the great outdoors.

Shaw has been hunting for the last 16 years and remembers hunting with his father and grandfather.

Throughout the years, Shaw has hunted deer, bear, turkey, and small game. But, Shaw said, for him, a successful hunt isnt necessarily one where an animal has been harvested. Its more about time spent with his family.

My favorite part about hunting is family time, Shaw told The Alpena News. Before I was old enough to actually hunt, I remember hanging out with my grandfather and sitting with him all day long when I was 8 years old. With the heater we had, we actually cooked soup on top of that for lunch.

When Robert Beto ORourke was still vying for the Democrat nominationand pledging to come take away your AR-15Breitbart News spoke with the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) about what a Herculean task that would be. After all, the AR-15 is the most popular rifle platform in America.

I grew up on a small farm 8 miles outside a small town in Michigan. My father hunted in his younger days, but working a factory job, farming, being active in our Baptist church, and working with the county farm bureau and county soil conservation district, he had little time for hunting. Most of my friends began hunting when I was 14, the minimum age to firearm deer hunt in Michigan at that time, and I heard the stories and saw the deer the lucky ones had shot and decided I, too, would be a deer hunter.

Many people enjoy picking up the latest, greatest pistols. I know I do, and I bet many of you do as well. However, "old school" handguns (firearms that have been on the market for a while) with proven track records are often the best personal-defense buys on the market. Not only do they have a history of success, the guns are often less expensive. Sometimes you can even grab one in the used market for extra savings.

The National Rifle Association and Florida officials are asking a federal judge to drop court-ordered mediation in a lawsuit challenging a 2018 state law that prevents people under age 21 from purchasing firearms. The ban was included in a sweeping law passed in response to the Feb. 14, 2018 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. Nikolas Cruz, who was 19 at the time of the shooting, is accused of killing 17 students and faculty members with a semi-automatic weapon.

When President Donald Trump complained on Twitter about the potential for voter fraud stemming from mail-in ballots, the messaging companys fact checkers insisted there is no evidence that voting by mail increases the potential, according to Fox News.

However, by no small coincidence, the Washington Times carried a story at the same time about a postal worker who had been charged by federal prosecutors on mail-fraud charges for allegedly altering absentee ballot requests during a primary election last month.

Multiple major US cities were left burning after so-called protesters took advantage of the death of George Floyd at the hands of one rogue cop, to destroy, steal and burn private and public property. Instead of peaceful protest calling for change, we had organized agitators, teenagers, and criminals take advantage of a heartbreakingly tragic situation to rob, loot, and destroy, then burn post offices, banks, retail stores, fast-food restaurants, and liquor stores.

As the riots that started in Minneapolis have spread across the country, some of those committing the violence have left the neighborhoods and taken to stopping traffic and shutting down roadways and then attacking the stopped vehicles with blunt objects heavy enough to smash out windows. So the question gets raised, Would a deadly force defense be justified in that kind of situation?

KEL-TECs P17 is a gun that jumps out because of its price ($199), but theres much more that makes the P17 worth highlighting this year. The .22 Long Rifle, by itself, isnt anything to shout about, but given that many manufacturers have returned to the rimfire market recently, its worth noting. Additionally, the pistols easy-to-rack slide and compact dimensions are also marks of trends in the gun world. The industry continues to expand its concealed-carry offerings and make carry-size guns more accessible and manageable for the less-than-strong-handed among us.

With millions of 9mm pistols and carbines in circulation, and more being produced every day, it was a shock to find supplies of said parabellum ammo vanish in the lastest panic. Without a doubt, popular handgun calibers like 9x19mm Luger, .38 Special, .357 Magnum, .380 ACP, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP sold out fast and, while the stocks are resurging as ammo makers scramble to meet demand while complying with state-mandated lockdowns and federal COVID-19 safety guidelines, they are nowhere near what they were earlier this year. Added to the coronavirus-inspired buying spree is a new wave of urban unrest while events like the 2020 hurricane season and the general election in November are on the horizon, ready to spark their waves of gun rushes.

Its clear that were seeing a lot of first-time gun owners right now for a variety of reasons. Thats fantastic - it is always a good thing when folks exercise their Second Amendment rights. Were all hoping the new folks take a few classes and get quality training, and of course practice, practice practice. If youre new to this whole shooting thing, though, you might not be aware of the gear you need to stay safe on the range. Heres a rundown of the most critical pieces of protective equipment to bring when going shooting.
