"As many of you know, Sierra Times asked that a letter campaign begin in support of JoAnn MuGuckin, now incarcerated in Sandpoint, Idaho. As is has come to our attention that a request has been made to forward all her mail to her court appointed attorney, Bryce Powell (who apparently will make his own decisons concerning her mail), Sierra Times is forced to revise it's policy. For those sending mail or traveling to Sandpoint, Idaho, please read this statement carefully. ..." |

"Charter One Bank canceled its contract with Tony Longcoy's employer soon after Longcoy wrestled a would-be robber to the ground yesterday morning... Longcoy, who had worked at the bank for 18 months, said he was told yesterday that he was supposed to be merely 'a deterrent' whose main responsibility is to get a good description of a bank robber, not catch one." |

"We will display items gathered from groups and individuals at the UN Conference in New York this July along with representations of other victims from around the world. We will also display them at a press conference in Washington, DC in early July to show U.S. policymakers that gun violence is not limited to conflicts half a world away."

A federal judge ruled Elin Gonzlez's Miami relatives can pursue their lawsuit against the U.S. government solely on grounds that gun-wielding agents may have used "excessive force" during the April 22, 2000, raid to seize the Cuban boy. U.S. District Judge Shelby Highsmith, citing a Chicago Police case, said, "the Gonzlezes have alleged sufficient facts to support such a claim" that the government may have violated their Constitutional rights. |

"The McVeigh case has been a test of our system. There has never been a case that has tested the fairness of the judicial system like this one. And we have not passed the test very well."
Burr said the backbone of American law has always been that the justice system must be fair to the people who do the worst things. "And we have not done that with Tim McVeigh," he said. "We are certainly not what we purport to be."

Sen. John McCains ad urging gun owners to keep their firearms locked up is "very misleading and dangerous," says an academic researcher at Yale Law School. Dr. John Lott, PhD., author of More Guns, Less Crime, fears that line is going to result in more deaths.
The ad, being shown at movie theaters all over America, warns that locking up the firearms to keep them out of the hands of children will prevent violent shootings. What it ignores is the possibility of a gun owner being awakened at night by an intruder. What does one do then? The armed burglar is not likely to be sympathetic if the victim says, "Hold your fire there for a minute while I unlock my gun cabinet, just to make this fair." |
