"Even as the White House seeks to counter a movement by some conservatives and liberals to curb some of the Patriot Act's powers, administration allies in the Senate moved this week to tack on new powers to the 2001 law."

"The Senate Intelligence Committee, meeting behind closed doors, on Tuesday approved a bill that would hand FBI agents authority to write their own subpoenas in certain investigations without having to obtain a judge's approval. The bill also would broaden the FBI's authority to monitor people's mail in terrorism investigations. While the text of the bill remains secret, the committee's leaders have broadly characterized its content."

"Forget scaling back the Patriot Act. Instead, the controversial post-9/11 law would be expanded to give the FBI new powers to demand documents from companies without a judge's approval, according to a vote late Tuesday by the Senate Intelligence committee."

"But the proposal appears to grant the FBI more power to seek information from banks, hospitals, libraries, and so on through 'administrative subpoenas' without prior judicial oversight."

"One other detail: the FBI may designate that the subpoenas are secret and punish disclosure of their existence with up to one year in prison..."

"...reporters were barred from the secret session during which the vote was held."

"The unregulated sale of firearms by unlicensed sellers through classified ads in newspapers allows felons, domestic abusers, minors, and other persons who are prohibited by law from possessing firearms to buy guns without a criminal background check. We call this the "newspaper loophole.'"

The Constitution calls it FREEDOM.

KABA Note: But apparently anything that allows Americans to exercise their Constitutional rights without interference from the nanny state is now considered a "loophole."

"Gregory Allan Despres was supposed to be going to jail the morning folks spotted him hitchhiking to the U.S. border with a bloody chainsaw. His trousers were spattered with blood. Inside his backpack he had a homemade sword, a hatchet, a knife and brass knuckles. He was also packing pepper spray and wearing a bullet-proof vest."

"...And incredibly, in this dawn of intense border security, he still made it through customs. After customs officers fingerprinted him and seized his arsenal, including the chainsaw, they let him go."

Bill Lockyer has been working for years to accomplish what amounts to the piecemeal destruction of gun rights and gun ownership in the Golden State. It is an American tradition to reject Lockyer's brand of tyranny, and take a stand."

You will pull the trigger with a lock on, and I'll pull the trigger. We'll see who wins. Sammy "The Bull" Gravano, whose testimony convicted John Gotti.
