Ammunition wholesalers in Australia are expecting one of the biggest supply shortages in recent history with American civilians purchasing arms at record speed.

Scrutiny of gun laws in the United States is thought to have sparked the gun sales boom, with the flow-on effects expected to reach Australian shores within weeks.

Some of the most popular bullets will soon be unavailable in Australia and New Zealand and will not be restocked for about another six months.

Firearm importers in Australia are being told to brace for supplies to run extremely thin or completely dry within weeks.

One commands what has been the most watched cable news network for more than 10 years; the other co-hosts one of the top-viewed shows in its time slot. Both live in New York's northern suburbs. Garrison, N.Y., resident Roger Ailes, chairman and CEO of Fox News, and Bronxville, N.Y., resident Mika Brzezinski, co-host of MSNBC's Morning Joe show with former Florida Republican Congressman Joe Scarborough, are two media heavyweights with widely divergent views on guns and gun control.

Houston resident Cheryl Strain's inexperience with guns was apparent as she struggled to load shells into a 20-gauge shotgun. ...
Strain's northwest Houston community of Oak Forest is the first neighborhood in the country being trained and equipped by the Armed Citizen Project, a Houston nonprofit that is giving away free shotguns to single women and residents of neighborhoods with high crime rates.
While many cities have tried gun buybacks and other tactics in the ongoing national debate on gun control, the nonprofit and its supporters say gun giveaways to responsible owners are actually a better way to deter crime.

More than a year after the killing of Trayvon Martin touched off a national furor over race, guns and Floridas expansive self-defense laws, the man who shot him to death is going to trial.
George Zimmerman, of white and Hispanic descent, claims Martin attacked him and that he acted in self-defense.
Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder. The trial, which begins Monday with jury selection, is expected to last more than a month.
Heres a look at the key figures in the trial.

Recently we have learned that the U.S. Government is mining data about our phone calls and internet usage. Obama has stated that Americans have to choose between security and privacy. The only problem about his statement is that we are never given a choice. Did anyone ask us if it was OK to use our phone data? Did Obama call you to ask if it was OK to search your internet emails and posts for keywords? How many of you got calls asking if it was OK to frisk and scan you at the airport?

On May 21, a group from Northern New York attended a rally in Albany to demand a repeal of the SAFE ACT. We assisted in personally hand delivering approximately 400,000 hand signed postcards asking for immediate action on Assembly bill A5955 to repeal the SAFE ACT. A group of three of us working as a team met with Alec Brook-Kransy from Assembly District 46. We delivered our cards and had a conversation with him. He stated he did vote for the SAFE ACT. When asked why, he stated it was an emotional time. So he also agreed that he voted with his emotions and not common sense and logic. He also stated that several legislators are reconsidering.

A February Iowa Poll illustrated the difficulty of pinning down voters' feelings about guns: 53 percent thought Iowa's gun laws were fine, while 41 percent saw a lack of effective laws as a major factor in gun violence.

But 88 percent backed tougher background checks for all gun sales, and 60 percent favored a ban on assault weapons.

"Any time you look at the gun question, the answer is, 'It depends,'" said poll director Ann Selzer.

Meanwhile, Judge Nelson has already ruled that lawyers can't discuss a toxicology report that shows Martin had marijuana in his system the night of the shooting, Martin's school records, any history of fights, any drug use, or any photos or text messages found on the teen's cellphone. She also said witnesses can't discuss whether they think the charges against Zimmerman are politically motivated.

The court of appeals is intent on Illinois eventually having a law that dictates exactly when and how citizens can carry weapons in public settings. Even if the governor signs the measure he now has, it would not take hold for another six months.

Thus, prosecutors are being forced to come up with some opinions of their own, to address things in the interim. One of the most prominent of those decisions occurred right here in Madison County, last week, when States Attorney Thomas Gibbons laid out a series of seven conditions that all must be met in order for a citizen to legally carry concealed weapons.

Residents in eight northern counties in Colorado upset with new laws on gun ownership and renewable energy are considering the formation of a new state called North Colorado, Fox News reported Sunday.

...

"To create a new state," the Colorado Observer said, "each county commission would need [to] refer measures to the November ballot asking voters whether to pursue the creation of a separate state with the General Assembly. If the voters approve, the counties would then ask the governor and state legislature to petition Congress."

Some were left intentionally, like HB5 by Rep. Jim Morris, R-Oil City. The bill would have made it a crime for any law enforcement officer to try to enforce any federal law restricting the use or ownership of semi-automatic weapons and their accessories.

Senators felt it would surely be challenged in court and found unconstitutional after a costly battle defending it, so it was never truly debated on the Senate floor.

Morris argument is only a judge could decide whether its unconstitutional. He said he would be willing to spend every nickel the state has defending the Second Amendment.

The U.S. Supreme Court says women in America can terminate a pregnancy and that every citizen has an individual right to own a firearm, but those rulings have done little to settle political arguments over abortion and guns.

The result is an uneven medley of state laws, which means that just how you can exercise those constitutional rights depends on where you live, and the differences often turn on whether a state is run by Democrats or Republicans.

George Zimmerman's lead attorney will be walking a fine line as he tries to convince jurors that his client didn't murder Trayvon Martin: He needs to show why Zimmerman felt threatened by the African American teenager while avoiding the appearance that either he or his client is racist.

Because there is no dispute that Zimmerman shot Martin, 17, during a fight on a rainy night in February 2012, Mark O'Mara must convince the jury that Zimmerman pulled his 9mm handgun and fired a bullet into the high school student's chest because he feared for his life and that the fear was caused by Martin's actions, not his race.

It requires no stretch of the imagination to understand why states allow their residents to defend their homes and their loved ones. However, it also requires no stretch of imagination to see how these laws can be manipulated or abused, used to protect those who murdered for anger or revenge, not fear, or who killed in situations when less than deadly force would have been sufficient.

Legislators need to be aware of and respond to these complexities in the law, such that the law can protect and allow people to protect themselves. That way, society can make sure it protects itself against dangerous criminals but does not allow a man to kill a 23-year-old escort because she would not have sex with him.

Was it murder when George Zimmerman shot and killed Trayvon Martin? Or was it self-defense?

That was the question 16 months ago, after Zimmerman pulled a handgun from his waistband and shot Martin once in the chest as they fought in the darkness. It was the question the initial police investigation and the first prosecutor wrestled with, an investigation shadowed by Floridas expansive law on self-defense Stand Your Ground which, if imposed, could have classified the shooting as justified.

A story in Saturdays Seattle Times on-line edition about the Armed Citizen Project in Houston, Tex., is getting the kind of reaction one might expect from holier-than-thou Seattle liberals who consider gun a four-letter word.

The ACP (an interesting acronym, because in the firearms community, it also stands for automatic Colt pistol in relation to three popular self-defense cartridges, the .32 ACP, .380 ACP and .45 ACP, the latter being a choice of armed citizens, police, sheriffs deputies and Texas Rangers) is being tested in the Houston community of Oak Forest, according to the Associated Press.

To Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley, the ranking Republican on the panel, Jones has a lot to answer for. Grassley has tried unsuccessfully to force Jones to testify about Fast and Furious, a troubled ATF gun-tracking operation on the Mexican border that Jones was brought in to clean up. Grassley also sought to tie Jones to a controversial Justice Department deal to drop two whistleblower cases against St. Paul as a means of averting a civil rights showdown before the Supreme Court over the citys rental code enforcement.
