U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Gil Kerlikowske on Monday removed the director of the agency's Office of Internal Affairs from his post.
The move by Kerlikowske comes less than a week after his decision to release to the public the agency's use-of-force handbook and a blistering report that found shortfalls in how the agency trains its agents and officers and in how investigations of deadly force are handled.
James F. Tomsheck, a 30-year federal law-enforcement veteran, had directed the office since 2006. Kerlikowske appointed Mark Morgan, deputy assistant director for inspections at the FBI, to head the office on an interim basis ...

A high-ranking U.S. Capitol Police officialone of the department's five deputy chiefsis under scrutiny because of complaints that he engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a subordinate.
One of the issues is whether that relationship led to a transfer for the subordinate to what many on the force consider a plum new assignment in the department's background-investigations section, according to multiple sources.

Speaking to users of the blogging platform Tumblr, President Obama today praised Australias confiscation of firearms. Obama said:
["]Couple of decades ago, Australia had a mass shooting, similar to Columbine or Newtown. And Australia just said, well, thats it, were not doing, were not seeing that again, and basically imposed very severe, tough gun laws, and they havent had a mass shooting since.
Our levels of gun violence are off the charts. Theres no advanced, developed country that would put up with this.["]
In other words, the president of the United States just praised a government for forcefully removing all semi-automatic firearms ... from its citizenry.

Calling the failure to pass gun-control laws the biggest frustration of his time in office, President Obama on Tuesday said America should be ashamed of its gun laws, decried the type of violence seen again Tuesday at an Oregon school, and praised a country that more or less banned all long guns.
Speaking to Tumblr founder David Karp, Mr. Obama said the U.S. does not conform to the rest of the advanced, developed world when it comes to gun laws, resurrecting his plea for restrictions on the sale of firearms.

SUBMITTER'S COMMENT: For once I agree with OB. America SHOULD be ashamed of its gun laws. Every single one of them is unconstitutional and should be repealed!

When a man in rural upstate New York recently had central air-conditioning installed in his home, he offered an unusual method of payment for the job.
The owner said, My father just passed away and left me some guns and ammunition, recalls a 63-year-old electrician named Richard, who offered only his first name. The guy gave me 3,000 rounds of 9-mm ammunition. The bullets are worth around $900. After that, I added it to my business card that I accept cash or bartered items.
Richard isnt alone. A new bartering economy in which ammo, not cash, is the preferred currency has been gaining ground, especially online.

Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki on Tuesday offered weapons and equipment to citizens who volunteer to fight Islamist militants, hours after the government forces lost the northern city of Mosul to the al-Qaeda-linked Islamic State in Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS).
In a statement broadcast on state television, Maliki said the cabinet has created a special crisis cell to follow up on the process of volunteering and equipping and arming.
The cabinet praises the willingness of the citizens and the sons of the tribes to volunteer and carry weapons ... to defend the homeland and defeat terrorism, he said.

On the evening on Dec. 4, 2013, Vern Wheeland, 73, received a call from his son who told him DOJ agents had just visited his Modesto home and were looking for his guns. His son had told the agents that Wheeland, in unincorporated Stanislaus County, had the guns and in the phone call told his father to expect the agents.

In 2005, Wheelands adult son was in the process of going through a divorce in Stanislaus County. According to Wheeland, the divorce was not amicable and had tensions to the point where his son had a restraining order issued against him. Wheeland agreed to take custody of his sons seven guns per the court order and has had them ever since.

Asked whether that means the Senate would take back up the legislation from Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) that failed last year, Reid replied: I wouldnt be surprised if we have another vote on it.

Manchin said in an interview that Reids message has been that if the Senate can get five more votes enough to break a 60-vote threshold filibuster then the chamber will take the legislation back up. But hes not there yet.

Im not your typical feminist. In fact, by todays standards, Im probably not a feminist at all. The feminist movement was once something inspiring and empowering. The movement today attempts to be so, but they directly ignore sensible solutions to serious problems.

In the shadow of the recent shootings, personal protection is fresh on our minds. The news has been packed with breaking stories of these incidents, and it has created the perfect platform for feminists to push their radical anti-gun agenda on businesses, individuals and lawmakers.

Scheff brought his concerns to militia members who had been handling security during the standoff, and they agreed to tell Jerad Miller he had failed a background check.

They just told them to leave, and he cried hysterically cried, so emotional my heart broke, Scheff said. He wanted to do the right thing, but he didnt know how to do that.

Scheff and the militia members offered to put the couple up in a hotel in Mesquite to act as their eyes and ears there, but the Millers instead went back to Las Vegas.

I believe Jerad was looking for a place, Scheff said. He wanted to make a difference, he wanted to leave a mark. He was looking for someplace to belong.

Mr. Obama said he respected gun rights and the Constitution's Second Amendment. "But the idea that, for example, we couldn't even get a background-check bill in to make sure that if you're going to buy a weapon you have to actually go through a fairly rigorous process, so that we know who you are, so you can't just walk up to a store and buy a semiautomatic weaponit makes no sense."

Ed.: Clearly, Obama hasn't purchased a firearm from a store in the past few decades.

House Bill 5085, a youth firearm education bill that corrects an unduly burdensome restraint on youth firearm education by reasonably expanding the class of individuals who are allowed to supervise and instruct Michigan youth on the safe use of pistols, is awaiting action by the Michigan Senate.

Summer is upon us, and the Boy Scouts of America in Michigan have expressed interest in creating a pistol training program and associated merit badge during their summer programs.

Miller's post is still up, even though Facebook announced earlier this year that it will delete posts that offer to buy or sell guns without background checks. In an article written by Miller on Infowars in 2012, Miller expressed his anger at the government for practically every negative thing that happened to him, including his decaying teeth, lack of health insurance and the inability to find work. He also said he was arrested and convicted of drug dealing and vehicle theft, which prohibits him and his wife from legally obtaining a gun.

The Ammunition Bubble: Substitute 12 Gauge For .22 Ammo?

The price of 12 gauge hunting ammunition has dropped back to near pre- ammunition bubble levels.

Wal-mart had 100 rounds of birdshot loads priced at $19.97 a couple of days ago. That is 20 cents per round, or $5 per box of 25.
Before the Barack Obama ammunition bubble, the ordinary price was a little lower, perhaps $4.50, with sales just before dove season as low as $3.00.

.22 rimfire ammunition, particularly .22 long rifle (LR) ammunition prices are at an all time high. This is a classic bubble, and it will end, but no one knows exactly when.

Former First Lady, ex-senator and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is scheduled to be in Seattle June 18 at the University Book Store, signing copies of her new book Hard Choices, but granting no press interviews, the Seattle P-I.com reported yesterday.

...

Would Mrs. Clinton dare dash across Lake Washington to the headquarters of the Second Amendment Foundation and Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms? There, she might not sell any books, but she could certainly stock up on several volumes covering the Second Amendment, gun rights and the use of firearms in self-defense.

The Guardian clearly emulates Americas regard for privacy as embodied in the Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution. Yet, that emulation does not, apparently, extend to the Second Amendment right of the American people to keep and bear arms. A clear admiration for Americas Fourth Amendment and disdain for the Second is apparent in the papers reporting.

After the reprint at the ClubOfINFO webzine of Franco Corteses excellent IEET article about how advanced technology clashes with the Second Amendment of the US Constitution, I am interested enough that I have decided to put together this response. Changes in technology do eventually force changes in the law, and some laws ultimately have to be scrapped. However there is an argument to be made that the Second Amendments deterrent against tyranny should not be dismissed too easily.

President Barack Obama Tuesday suggested that the U.S. government should follow Australias example in dealing with shooting sprees, which involved strict gun bans on semiautomatic and automatic weapons.

Australia had a mass shooting [in 1996] similar to Columbine and Newtown, and just said, Thats it, were not seeing that again, and basically imposed very severe tough gun laws and they havent had a mass shooting since, Obama said, after he was asked for his reaction to recent shooting episodes in California and Oregon. Those laws included the confiscation of nearly all handguns and rifles.

As if on cue and reading from the same script, senior Obama administration officials and the increasingly discredited establishment press rushed to paint a deeply deceptive caricature of the alleged Las Vegas cop-killers. By selectively picking what to report in an outlandishly biased manner, a deranged couple described by neighbors as methamphetamine-abusing white supremacists became at least in the mischaracterized mainstream media everyday Americans suspicious about government run-amok. According to polls, over two thirds of U.S. voters say the federal government is out of control and a threat to basic liberties.

Amid much fanfare, the "Act Relative to the Reduction of Gun Violence" was put forward recently. However, instead of improving public safety and correcting wrongs in the present laws, it is an academic exercise in social engineering, which will not work to reduce violent crime in the real world.

The bill violates the God-given civil rights of the inhabitants of Massachusetts, particularly those of the young and poor. By failing to include stakeholders of varying viewpoints, the undiverse committee has provided another example of the classic groupthink, providing simplistic solutions to complex problems, resulting in an assault on freedom.

"There is a blurring of the lines between the constitutional right of gun ownership and what I believe to be a privilege of carrying a weapon concealed," Skinner said. "In my decision, I erred on the side of the federal government, which does not recognized the medicinal use of marijuana as being a legitimate use."

Floyd has been contacted by attorneys who believe Skinner's decision was wrong. She said they see a Supreme Court ruling in her future.

A precedent may already have been set. In 2012, the US Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal from an Oregon sheriff who denied a conceal weapons licensee to a medical marijuana user.
