CBS News has learned the House Oversight Committee will vote next week on whether to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress. It's the fourth time in 30 years that Congress has launched a contempt action against an executive branch member.
This time, the dispute stems from Holder failing to turn over documents subpoenaed on October 12, 2011 in the Fast and Furious "gunwalking" investigation. |

Police officers in Indiana are upset over a new law allowing residents to use deadly force against public servants, including law enforcement officers, who unlawfully enter their homes. It was signed by Republican Governor Mitch Daniels in March. The first of its kind in the United States, the law was adopted after the state Supreme Court went too far in one of its rulings last year, according to supporters. The case in question involved a man who assaulted an officer during a domestic violence call. The court ruled that there was no right to reasonably resist unlawful entry by police officers. |

Spy planes able to photograph sunbathers in their back gardens are being deployed by Google and Apple. The U.S. technology giants are racing to produce aerial maps so detailed they can show up objects just four inches wide. But campaigners say the technology is a sinister development that brings the surveillance society a step closer. Google admits it has already sent planes over cities while Apple has acquired a firm using spy-in-the-sky technology that has been tested on at least 20 locations, including London. Apples military-grade cameras are understood to be so powerful they could potentially see into homes through skylights and windows. |

A bill pending in the state Legislature (S.B. 59) would, for the first time, allow individuals who have a permit to carry a concealed handgun on school property, in places of worship, day care centers, sports arenas, bars, hospitals, college dormitories and classrooms.
The telephone survey of 600 registered voters, conducted by EPIC-MRA of Lansing in early April, found that 72 percent said they opposed the bill with 63 percent strongly opposed. Only 25 percent favored the bill. |

Rather than seizing guns from a weapons trafficking raid or a major bust, Prince Georges County police collected more than 200 guns Saturday from area residents who willingly handed them over no questions asked.
The Gift Cards for Guns program at the First Baptist Church of Highland Park in Landover was a first-time program for the police department to reduce the number of weapons in county neighborhoods, said Cpl. Clinton Copeland, a county police spokesman, who said the department is pleased with the result. |

A number of cities across America are trying to curb violence by making it more difficult to get a gun, but elected leaders in Potlatch, Idaho said the more firearms, the better. And guns are giving this historic lumber town a shot at a second chance.
Residents are aiming to turn this old lumber town into a gun town and theyre doing it by poaching so-called rec-tech companies from anti-gun states. |

Gun toting advocates filled the Birmingham commission chambers Monday night, displaying their firearms in holsters and strapped to their backs in protest of charges against a teen they say had the legal right to do the same in public.
"It seems like cooler heads should prevail and the charges should fall," said Dave Campbell, a Westland resident involved with AR15.com, a website and resource center for gun supporters.
At issue is the April 13 arrest of Sean M. Combs, a Troy High School student, after he strolled Old Woodward Avenue in downtown Birmingham with a M-1 rifle strapped to his back. |

Asked if pigeon shootings are legal, Berks County District Attorney John T. Adams said:
"While I do not condone this activity, the law is clear in Pennsylvania.
"Pigeon shoots are legal based on the case law by Pennsylvania Superior Courts and the Berks County Court of Common Pleas.
"I should mention that there is certain requirements that the shoots must comply with to stay within the confines of the law.
"Those requirements are set forth in an opinion authored by Judge Scott Lash."

In the most attention-grabbing item, voters will decide whether to set a tougher standard for restricting the use of weapons and whether to remove a provision that gives the Legislature explicit authority to limit concealed handguns.
Supporters say the change, sponsored by Sen. Neil Riser, R-Columbia, and pushed by the National Rifle Association, would give Louisiana the strongest gun protection in the nation and could guard against possible future Supreme Court rulings that might affect the Second Amendment. |

Folsom said the issue is interesting because many cases have established a students room at college is like his or her home, and in the landmark 2008 Heller case the Supreme Court ruled the right to bear arms in the Second Amendment protected an individuals right to possess firearms for lawful purposes, including self-defense in the home. He also said he didnt believe past challenges had yet covered the dorm room question. |

Theres also no practical reason for guns anymore. The Founding Fathers wanted a citizen army because they had been oppressed by a professional army, but today things have changed. We no longer need personal firearms to protect ourselves (unless youre going rogue in a totalitarian police state, which is hard to overthrow even with a gun), and in normal day-to-day life they cause more death than safety. Moreover, the Second Amendment doesnt protect the right to bear arms unconditionally it guarantees the right for a well-regulated militia, emphasis on well-regulated and militia. |

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today released a powerful video call on American citizens to demand full disclosure on the deadly Operation Fast and Furious.
The 1-minute video message asks viewers to imagine their child grew up to be a Border Patrol agent who was gunned down in the line of duty, and then imagine learning that the federal government had supplied the guns to Mexican drug cartel killers. Then comes an image of Attorney General Eric Holder, being sworn in to testify before Congress, with the caption "I knew nothing." |

Knife Rights Chairman Doug Ritter said, Jason Hobbs action to save his sons life from the unprovoked mountain lion attack is a dramatic testimony to the practical value of always carrying a knife and of the practical advantage that one-hand opening offers. You never know when your knife will be the difference between life and death; these situations cannot be foreseen, but if you dont have a knife handy when needed, lives can be, and often are, lost. |

"Starts yelling at him about how he wants money for two kegs of beer that he dropped off earlier that day. Individual knows nothing of this whatsoever. There was no party at the house," said Craig Apple, Albany County Sheriff.
Albany County sheriff Craig Apple says 20-year-old Cody Lassonde, an active duty Marine from Altamont, was intoxicated when he pushed his way into the home on Veeder Road. The wife inside called 911. The husband grabbed this 12-gauge shotgun, a Remington 870 used for hunting. |

A measure that would open Lancaster city and other municipalities to lawsuits from gun advocates is moving forward in the state Legislature.
Senate Bill 273, first proposed last year as an extension of the "castle doctrine," has been rewritten and reintroduced with language allowing lawsuits against cities, townships and boroughs that attempt to regulate guns.
In the cross hairs of the bill are ordinances passed by Lancaster and 29 other municipalities that require gun owners to report if their gun has been lost or stolen. |

But neither Douglas nor Gordons killings are accounted for correctly in the FBIs Uniform Crime Report, the annual go-to source for tracking crime trends both locally and nationally.
In fact, a quick review of FBI statistics shows only one not eight justifiable homicide reported in Kalamazoo County between 2000 and 2010.
The large discrepancy is one example of how FBI numbers understate the number of justifiable homicide cases both in Michigan and nationally. |

Army 1st Sergeant Matthew Corrigan learned the hard way that the District of Columbia doesnt believe it has to abide by the U.S. Constitution like the 50 states do. The city ignores the Fourth Amendment right of Americans to be free of unreasonable searches and seizures. If police cant be bothered to obtain a search warrant, officers have no problem busting open your front door and taking your property.
Most of all, Washington officials do not abide by the full meaning and spirit of the Second Amendment. The District believes it alone can bestow the right to keep arms on those who can afford hefty fees, pass a written test and tell the government about every single firearm owned. The Founding Fathers would be appalled. |

An ordinance that would prohibit the carrying of a concealed handgun in city-owned parks was pulled from the Russellville City Council's agenda Monday due to a discovered potential change with federal park guidelines.
Recreation and Parks Director Mack Hollis requested the ordinance he submitted on behalf of his department's board be pulled, citing in an email the Recreational Lands Self Defense Act of 2011 a bill that has passed in the House of Representatives and is pending in the U.S. Senate that would prohibit the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) from barring weapons otherwise authorized under state law. |
