Two congressional Democrats have reintroduced legislation to prohibit Americans convicted of misdemeanor hate crimes at the state and local level from purchasing or possessing guns, ahead of the anniversaries of the Pulse nightclub and Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church mass shootings. Under current federal law, a violent or threatening misdemeanor hate crime conviction doesnt prohibit a citizen from buying or having a gun. Hate crime laws vary by state. In most, citizens convicted of misdemeanor hate crimes can still legally purchase guns.

Plans to use conservation wardens instead of state parks rangers to enforce laws in campgrounds and recreation areas run the risk of delays in handling disruptive people, the Legislatures nonpartisan fiscal bureau says. The changes are already taking place in state parks and forests as part of a reorganization the Department of Natural Resources announced in November. The fiscal bureau analyzed the plans because they are included in Gov. Scott Walkers proposed 2017-19 budget.

Weve lived with guns for several centuries. Despite those years of cultural and personal familiarity, some people talk about guns as if they had been invented yesterday. Im going to try and shift the discussion about guns so we can hear this stale bigotry with fresh ears. More people die each year in car accidents than in gun accidents. How do these anti-gun arguments sound to you when we substitute word for word?
This is the everyday bigotry directed against gun owners. These sentiments are both shocking and shockingly familiar.

In 2015, Kansas renewed the constitutional right to lawfully carry a firearm for self-defense purposes, and soon it will extend to university campuses. Im not a Republican, Democrat, conservative or liberal in this discussion, because it doesnt matter. Im an American citizen who believes we have the right to make our own choices. No matter your political views, we are all proud Americans who love our country.

Jordan Klepper may take on the posture of an East Coast elitist his words in his field pieces for The Daily Show. But as we learn in tonights hour-long special on Comedy Central, ironically titled Jordan Klepper Solves Guns, he actually grew up going on hunting trips with his grandfather in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It was relatively early in his Daily Show correspondent tenure that Klepper broke through with a hilariously insightful field piece that aimed to debunk the good guy with a gun theory that became a prominent NRA talking point following the Sandy Hook massacre in December 2012.

Moffat County's big game populations are looking healthy as spring turns to summer, in part due to a temporary closure of large sections of public land to antler shed hunting this spring. The closure was a rare event, and Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials treated most encounters with transgressors as educational opportunities rather than issuing citations, said Assistant Area Wildlife Manager Mike Swaro.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Besides the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation, the existence of subordinate governments, to which the people are attached, and by which the militia officers are appointed, forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition, more insurmountable than any which a simple government of any form can admit of. Notwithstanding the military establishments in the several kingdoms of Europe, which are carried as far as the public resources will bear, the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms. James Madison, The Federalist Papers, No. 46
