(VIDEO AVAILABLE) The Bandera County Sheriff's Office issued a warning Thursday to citizens about an anti-government movement known for acts of domestic terrorism. The law enforcement agency said followers of The Sovereign Citizens Movement have been known to carry out violent acts, including killing law enforcement officers and other public servants. The sheriff's office told KSAT-12 News the warning was prompted by the recent shooting death of Bexar County Sheriff's Deputy Sgt. Kenneth Vann. ... [Capt. Charlie Hicks of the Bandera County Sheriff's Office] said while there's no evidence Vann's death had any links to the Sovereign Citizens, it's the same type of crime followers are known for. |

When Chicago police answered a domestic disturbance call at the home of Tiawanda Moore and her boyfriend in July 2010, the officers separated the couple to question them individually. Moore was interviewed privately in her bedroom. According to Moore, the officer who questioned her then came on to her, groped her breast and slipped her his home phone number. Robert Johnson, Moore's attorney, says that when Moore and her boyfriend attempted to report the incident to internal affairs officials at the Chicago Police Department, the couple wasn't greeted warmly. "They discouraged her from filing a report," Johnson says. |

HARDIN, Tex. The police in East Texas were led on a fruitless search on Tuesday evening when a woman, claiming to be a psychic, called in a sensational tip, saying she knew of a mass grave where dozens of dismembered bodies were buried.
Equipped with a search warrant and cadaver-sniffing dogs, deputies from the Liberty County Sheriffs Office converged on a home on a narrow country road near Hardin about an hour outside Houston in search of a macabre crime scene.
But in the end, there was no grave, there were no bodies and there was no sign that any crime had been committed...

More than two dozen guns are off the streets thanks to a gun amnesty program.
The event allowed people to turn in their firearms near 50th and Ames in Omaha - no questions asked and no arrests made.
Omaha police collected 36 guns, 8 five gallon buckets of ammunition, gunpowder, a bowie knife, and even a bow-and-arrow set. Four of the firearms were initially determined to be illegal sawed-off shotguns. |

And while the extreme penalties were watered down in the version that passed, doctors and other health care workers now can be fined or lose their licenses for asking about guns in a home unless they have a good-faith belief the "information is relevant to the patient's medical care or safety or safety of others." How doctors will determine how to abide by such a vague stipulation is unclear.
...
Florida doctors may be silenced on preaching gun safety, but I can still say it. If you have a weapon, store it safely and out of the reach of kids.

Two identical bills, House Bill 45 and Senate Bill 17, would permit residents with conceal-carry permits to take firearms into bars and restaurants that serve alcohol. Gun carriers would not be allowed to consume alcohol. Lawmakers are expected to settle on a final bill and present it to Gov. John Kasich for final approval in the near future. The bills also would eliminate the requirement for conceal-carry permit holders to secure firearms in a container, such as a bag, when driving. |

At 75 years old, Betty McIntyre didnt think she would need to know how to use a gun.
She had fired a shotgun years ago with her husband Ray while duck hunting, but never thought much about a pistol. That changed years ago because of concerns by her late son, Phillip.
Phillip gave me a gun just in case something happened to Ray. He said he wanted me to learn to protect myself, McIntyre said.
She took a self-defense gun class through the Florence Police Department and then learned about the Florence Gun Club.
I went to the shooting range in the self-defense course and I was just carried away. I really loved it, McIntyre said. When I heard about the gun club, me and my husband joined. |

Cains position that Congress cant regulate guns but states can not only places him well to the left of the NRA, it also places him at odds with the Supreme Court. In McDonald v. Chicago, the justices held 5-4 that the Second Amendment applies equally to the states and to the federal government. So any gun control law that Congress could not enact also cannot be enacted by state or local governments as Cain would prefer. |

In June 2008, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the Second Amendment to the Constitution protects an individuals right to possess a firearm and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home. Quoting the famous British jurist William Blackstone, the court held that the right of self-preservation permits a citizen to repe[l] force by force when the intervention of society in his behalf, may be too late to prevent an injury. This grandiose language must ring awfully hollow to Orville Lee Wollard who, two years ago tomorrow was sentenced to two decades in a Florida prison for protecting his family with a firearm. |

Tucked away in the fiscal 2012 defense authorization bill that the House passed Thursday is a curious provision: an amendment that would ensure that troops deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq have the right to bear arms.
You read that correctly. The House voted 260 to 160 to approve an amendment to the bill that would revise the militarys rules of engagement to ensure troops in conflict zones can defend themselves.
...
Rep. Mica said the proposed legislation what he described as the little amendment that could was a response to front-line troops in Afghanistan who told him they felt constrained by the current rules of engagement. |

One of eight states against the practice, Ohio is on the verge of allowing guns in bars, restaurants, stadiums and any other place alcohol can be consumed.
Gov. John Kasich will consider either House Bill 45 or Senate Bill 17, identical pieces of legislation that would end the states ban. The law would allow concealed-carry permit holders to carry a firearm into a bar, restaurant, stadium or club, but prohibit them from consuming alcohol.
The bills have created a stir between gun-rights advocates, the anti-gun lobby, safety officials, bar and restaurant owners and others. It would permit concealed carry weapons in any establishment with a Class D liquor license, which includes bars, clubs, restaurants and stadiums.

A central Pennsylvania man who said he acted in self-defense when he stabbed a teenager to death last year has been acquitted of all charges.
Jurors in York County deliberated for a few hours Friday before finding 23-year-old Enrique Torres not guilty of first- and third-degree murder in the January 2010 death of 16-year-old Shah Jordan.
Defense attorney Michael Huff said his client had been robbed at gunpoint by the teenager less than 24 hours before the stabbing, which he said occurred as the two struggled over the gun. |

". . .We must be able not only to hunt but to protect ourselves from an overbearing government that does not do the will of the people. . . ."
--State Rep. Scott Perry, R-Carroll Township, quoted in the Allentown Morning Call, referring to legislation he authored that would expand Pennsylvania's "castle doctrine."
Police officers might well be alarmed by that statement, which, if you didn't know it came from a state lawmaker, you might imagine being uttered by a member of the militia movement.
What exactly does Rep. Perry mean by "protect ourselves from an overbearing government"? |

A lawsuit has been filed by gun-ban advocates over Florida's new law that prevents physicians from grilling children in the name of "safety" about any firearms their parents may own, but Second Amendment experts say there's an underlying agenda that plainly aims to discourage gun ownership and compile a database on those who won't cooperate in getting rid of weapons.
The Orlando Sentinel reported that Florida Gov. Rick Scott signed a law that says doctors and other medical personnel cannot ask patients about gun ownership or guns in their homes and record the responses unless it is connected to the medical treatment. |

It may not come as surprising news to many of you that the United Nations doesnt approve of our Second Amendment. Not one bit. And they very much hope to do something about it with help from some powerful American friends. Under the guise of a proposed global Small Arms Treaty premised to fight terrorism, insurgency and international crime syndicates you can be quite certain that an even more insidious threat is being targeted our Constitutional right for law-abiding citizens to own and bear arms. |

One of the more curious things going on in the Indiana Statehouse these days is the decision by some lawmakers to second-guess a controversial decision by the states judicial branch of government.
This past week, 71 members of the Indiana General Assembly filed a petition asking the Indiana Supreme Court to reconsider its ruling that citizens dont have the right to resist police officers who enter their homes illegally.
Rallied by a Republican state Sen. Mike Young of Indianapolis, the petitioning lawmakers made the move after their legislative leaders created a summer study committee to determine if the Indiana General Assembly has the power to neutralize the court decision with a new state law. |

The United Nations seemingly has it out for Americans Second Amendment-guaranteed rights as it continues to promote its Small Arms Treaty. The pact has already riled many gun owners as well as lawmakers such as Kentuckys Republican Senator Rand Paul. The most recent attack against the treaty was launched by Larry Bell of Forbes magazine, who published an editorial about it yesterday.
...
In short, Bell said, the treaty would override our national sovereignty, in the process giving license to the federal government to assert preemptive powers over state regulatory powers guaranteed by the Tenth Amendment in addition to our Second Amendment rights. |

Ever-so-quietly over the past few months, Mayor Verne Ruprights Task Force on Industrial Uses has been studying a proposed outdoor firing range near the Curtis D. Menard Memorial Sports Center and is recommending a noise control ordinance for the city.
At first glance, the two seem incompatible.
...
A noise ordinance is a great idea, but if you look closer, it appears to be a backdoor way to getting the shooting range put in, Katkus said Friday. People should be aware of what the mayor is doing behind their backs.
On the bottom on the third page of the proposed noise control ordinance, 13 sounds are listed as exempt to the restrictions at all times. The ninth one is sounds created by the lawful discharge of firearms. |

The Brady Campaign should stop their hypocrisy and phony arguments. The notion that the group believes in the Tenth Amendment is laughable. Everyone knows that the group believes in restricting the right to keep and bear arms any way it can, with federal gun control, state gun control, local gun control, by executive regulation, by court decisions, by lawsuits designed to bankrupt gun manufacturers, and by any other means it can think of. Trying to cast itself as a defender of our country's federal system, it only discredits itself even more than usual. |

Open carry
Assembly Bill 144 by Assemblyman Anthony Portantino, D-La Caada Flintridge: Makes it a misdemeanor to carry an unloaded weapon in public.
The debate: Law enforcement officials want to curtail open-carry events that they say are intimidating to unarmed citizens. Gun owners consider this another step toward taking away their rights to bear arms. |
