Tillemann told the Independent he also supports more traditional, mainstream Democratic gun control proposals such as the assault-style weapons ban and forbidding people on no-fly lists from acquiring firearms. He said he also supports a 10-day waiting period for buying a gun and legislation that would require safe storage of household weapons. "What were doing now and what weve been doing for decades isnt working. And, what this is is an effort to solve a problem and to an idea out there that can work and to start a conversation about using non lethal self defense methods that will save lives, said Tillemann.

Although tweaks to the policy are still being discussed and the fine points of how to administer it are under development, Payne County has allowed its employees who have permits to carry handguns while working for almost a month.

An agenda item on the Monday Payne County Budget Board meeting was merely there to allow discussion of a proposed minor change to the policy, Payne County Commissioner for District 2 Chris Reding said.

That item was tabled Monday because Reding and Commissioner Zach Cavett werent present.

Too often our facts are chosen to justify our emotions. Most of what gun-ban supporters think they know is what theyve seen on TV. Hollywood violence feels real, while self-defense is merely theoretical or non-existent. The gun-prohibitionists has never seen what self-defense looks like, let alone touched it, trained for it, and lived with it. Nor have their friends. Instead, they claim the police will protect them, and self-defense is seen as vigilantism.

An Illinois judge has temporarily blocked the Chicago suburb Deerfield from implementing an assault weapons ban that the village passed in the aftermath of the Parkland, Fla., school shooting that left 17 dead.

The board of the village, which is located north of Chicago, voted unanimously in April to approve an ordinance banning assault weapons, including the AR-15 that was used in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School massacre, in the towns boundaries.

Lake County Circuit Court Judge Luis Berrones on Tuesday agreed to implement a temporary restraining order to prevent enforcement of the ordinance, which was to go into effect Wednesday, until two lawsuits challenging the ordinance could be heard.

Gov. Phil Murphy, declaring he was sending a strong and clear message to President Donald Trump, signed six gun control bills into law during an hourlong ceremony Wednesday attended by hundreds of gun control advocates and a survivor of the Parkland, Fla., school shooting.

Some of the laws merely align New Jersey with already existing federal laws and formally roll back a Christie administration regulation. Others are more substantial and controversial, including reducing the permitted size of ammunition clips.

But some of the boards Democrats took the opposite view, appearing chagrined at the idea of offering 9- and 10-year-olds what they viewed as a pro-gun curriculum.

The boards proposed curriculum would explain the potential dangers of having weapons at home, in school and in the community. Scheffels amendment would have added and benefits for self-defense. She explained last month that she was referring to guns in the home as a means of self-defense.

Police believe a man acted in self-defense when he fatally stabbed an armed robber outside his Gentilly Terrace home Sunday night.

According to the New Orleans Advocate, Alexis Suazo was leaving to go to church Sunday morning when 26-year-old Terrance Jacques pointed a gun at him and forced him back inside. Suazo said he offered Jacques his computer and TV, but the alleged gunman refused.

The report says the two men got into a brawl that ended when Suazo fatally stabbed Jacques. The New Orleans Police Department later confirmed they believe Suazo acted in self-defense in the killing.

The envelope shows a photo of West, a former congressman from Georgia, holding a semi-automatic firearm.

Judd insists the civilian guardians will be well-trainedand more cost-effective than school resource officers. Potential guardians must complete background checks, psychological evaluations, and drug tests during the training process, according to the Polk Countys Sheriff Office. Over 500 people applied for the program, but only 150 people made it to the training portion, Judd told News 6.

The guardian receives 25 percent more firearms training than a certified police officer in the state of Florida and has to qualify five points higher than a certified police officer, Judd told the outlet.

Three weeks to the day after the shooting, Scott signed into law the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act , a comprehensive bill that includes a provision that raises the age to purchase a gun, bans bump stocks and allows law enforcement, with the approval of a judge, to bar a person deemed dangerous due to mental illness from owning guns for up to a year.

First of all, the language of the Amendment is confusing. It reads, and I quote:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, The right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

What, pray tell, did the Framers mean with this convoluted statement? Granted, the English language back in 1791 may have been a bit stilted, but even so, the sentence structure and choice of words at best breed confusion.

In the year since House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and others were shot at a congressional baseball practice, mass shootings have occurred at a Texas church, a Las Vegas music festival and high schools in Parkland, Florida, and Santa Fe, Texas.

Ohio Rep. Brad Wenstrup, a doctor who helped save Scalises life last June, has watched those attacks unfold with the acute sensitivity of a mass shooting survivor. Each shooting is jarring, says Wenstrup calling the Parkland shooting in particular sickening but his views on gun control have not changed.

Elsewhere, Hunter does not support a ban on assault weapons or any firearm. Hes really passionate about ... the Second Amendment, Adams said, but would support more stringent requirements for those who want to purchase AR-15s, for instance. Adams highlighted the language of the Second Amendment, particularly the well-regulated provision.

What we need to do federally ... is treat the gun industry and handle guns as they do in the military, he said. We dont hand out AR-15s to first-year recruits.

He added that Hunter would support a list that would bar certain people from purchasing firearms.

Organizers behind the event National Die-In Day said those 720 seconds symbolized the approximate number of people killed in mass shootings in the United States since the Pulse nightclub massacre on June 12, 2016, in Orlando, Florida.

Until recently, members of the National Rifle Association could view past legislator ratings for political candidates on the website for the organizations political action committee. Those old grades, which were often used to categorize the NRA-friendliness of sitting legislators, are no longer available to logged-in members. A drop-down menu that once displayed past years is now empty.

Jennifer Baker, a spokesperson for the NRA, initially denied that any change had been made to the organizations system.
