What kind of person carries body armor in their car? Its one of the memorable quotes from the trial of Kyle Rittenhouse over his multiple acts of self-defense with a rifle that occurred on the same evening in 2020. If youre anything like me, that uninformed quote gives rise to a hearty laugh among like-minded friends. Along with the armor in my vehicle, as well as the cars and trucks of many friends, is a trusty rifle. For some of us who need or want to maintain a high state of readiness* that gear along with medical emergency kits are within quick reach in case theyre needed.

CA: Could liability insurance prevent gun violence in California?

California already requires gun owners to have a safety certificate, background check, and go through a waiting period before they can take their firearm into their homes. Now, they may also be required to show proof of insurance.

California could be the first state in the nation to require gun owners to purchase liability insurance under a new bill by Sen. Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley) that dropped on Thursday. The insurance policies would cover accidental or negligent use of firearms not acts that are intentional or malicious and would work much in the same way as car insurance.

If legislators cannot grow a spine and get their hands out of the pockets of the National Rifle Association to ban assault rifles, then they should at least put a ban on all ammunition for those rifles. There is nothing in the Constitution about the right to own ammunition. Without bullets, an AR-15 is just a club.

Pastor Michael Fox is pissed.

Actually, the 60-year-old Sanford, North Carolina, Presbyterian corrects himself: He's "very pissed."

Fox is among the Republican voters who feels betrayed by GOP senators for supporting a bipartisan gun deal they say chips away at their constitutional right to bear arms.

North Carolina's two Republican senators are among a group of GOP lawmakers backing a gun reform deal in principle for the first time in about 30 years legislation that was prompted by two mass shootings last month in Buffalo, New York, and Uvalde, Texas.

Last November, hours after a jury acquitted Kyle Rittenhouse of two shooting deaths during antiracism protests in 2020, a Florida gun dealer created an image of him brandishing an assault rifle, with the slogan: BE A MAN AMONG MEN.

Mr. Rittenhouse was not yet a man when he killed two people and wounded another in Kenosha, Wis. he was 17 but he aspired to be like one. And the firearms industry, backed by years of research and focus groups, knows that other Americans do, too.

After 50 minutes of deliberation on Friday, a jury returned not-guilty verdicts on both charges. One alleged that he attacked Dustin Stoll with a deadly weapon a two-by-four. Another alleged that he seriously injured Stoll.

"My family deserves justice," Feister said after the trial.

Judge Elizabeth Lehigh Thomakos presided over the trial that started June 9 in Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Court.

The defense team of attorney Kimberly Kendall Corral of Cleveland and Marian D. Davidson of Lisbon successfully argued that Feister acted in self-defense.

Call the GOPs bluff on gun legislation

Since Republicans insist that the cause of mass shootings is not guns but mental health and other societal factors, Democrats should do more than work to pass weak legislation that can get through the Senate. They should call their Republican colleagues bluff by proposing meaningful legislation (including a ban on assault rifles) that would automatically expire in one year if there were no decrease in the number of mass shootings; however, such legislation would be automatically renewed should there be fewer mass shootings. Such a proposal, based on common sense, would be hard to dismiss. And if it were, it would show the true colors of those who would go to any lengths to safeguard guns over our precious children.

For the past several years Ive tried to ignore all of the inane blather by left wing socialists, but the letter in the Wednesday, June 8 Marietta Times cant go and blame the lawlessness in our country on an inanimate object, guns, by saying its the guns, stupid. Id like to just say its not the guns, stupid!

Its the socialists who hamstring law enforcement by advocating defunding the police. Its liberal prosecutors who wont use all of the laws that are already on the books.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) is tapping Art Thomm to replace longtime Florida NRA lobbyist Marion Hammer after she announced her retirement on Thursday.

The NRA told The Capitolist that Thomm, a veteran NRA lobbyist, will take over as the new Florida State Director for the lobbying arm of the gun rights advocacy group. The West Virginia native is no stranger to advocating for pro-gun policies. He helped pass Constitutional Carry in several states across the country, and currently serves as the NRA-ILA State Director for Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, and West Virginia.

Gun violence in Hawaii is rare thanks to gun laws

Ridiculous gun laws wont stop violent crime (Letters to the Editor, June 14) fails to recognize that, thanks to strict gun safety laws and the intervening Pacific Ocean, Hawaii has relatively little gun violence and has had only one mass shooting (in 1999) in the last several decades.

Yes, theres other kinds of violence, but due to our gun safety laws, theres far less killings or serious injuries than otherwise.

Has anyone wondered why, on the mainland, theres a dearth of machine-gun violence? Its because of a strict national machine gun control law passed in 1934.

Sure, in the few years after passage, law-abiding citizens couldnt access machine guns, while criminals continued to have them.

In a 4-3 decision with a blistering dissent from the Republican minority, the Illinois Supreme Court declined to rule on a question of whether Illinois Firearm Owners Identification Act is unconstitutional.

It was the second time the case of the People v. Vivian Brown came before the court and the second time the court declined to rule on the constitutionality of the state statute requiring Illinoisans to receive a permit to legally own a gun.

Will We Choose Hard Work to Protect Our Children in School?

Set aside what you imagine about guns and protecting students at school. Keeping our kids safe is hard work. It is ugly and almost always unappreciated. We dont want appreciation for what weve been forced to do if a murderer comes to school. It is far better to be known for what we prevented. Defending our students from media-fueled narcissistic psychopaths is a dull job. Being present every day so you can stop a murderer is easily ignored because it is out of sight. Contrast that grinding job with the one-click solution of gun control.

Supreme Court could soon make it easier to carry guns in six states

With Congress closing in on a bipartisan gun-safety deal after last months run of mass shootings, the Supreme Court soon will issue a ruling that could make it easier for people in at least a half-dozen states to legally carry loaded firearms in public.

It will be the first major Second Amendment decision from the court in more than a decade. And if the justices strike down New Yorks century-old restrictions on carrying concealed firearms, as appeared likely when the case was argued last fall, similar regulations in California, New Jersey, Maryland, Hawaii, and Massachusetts would be vulnerable.

FL: Defeat lawmakers who oppose gun reform

Those who oppose gun safety measures often cite the Second Amendment as their rationale for opposing any type of legislation. When the framers of the Second Amendment wrote the words keep and bear arms, it is unlikely they were referring to the highly destructive military-grade weapons used in recent mass shootings.

Sen. Marco Rubio and Rep. Greg Steube Republicans who both receive significant donations from the National Rifle Association are running for reelection in November. Most Americans feel that some type of gun reform is needed, yet these two elected officials refuse to even consider any legislation that might offend the NRA.

The Uvalde, Texas native is shown in the video meeting with officials from both sides of the aisle, including Sens. Joe Manchin, Kyrsten Sinema, Lindsey Graham, Cory Booker, Rep. Jerry Nadler, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President Biden.

NC: Local and state Democrats look to ban gun sales near schools

Democrats across the country have started pushing for bans on gun sales near schools and child-care centers in an incremental effort to move gun restrictions forward as national Republicans block more comprehensive measures.

North Carolina state Sen. Natalie Murdock (D) has drafted legislation to ban the sale of firearms within 1,400 feet, or about a quarter-mile, of the property lines of any school or child-care center. The proposal, which will be attached to an upcoming bill, does not cover existing stores or include college campuses, but it does include locations of organized clubs like the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

Enough! We cannot continue to live this way in America. It is not acceptable that our society protects Second Amendment rights and yet allows the slaughter of children as the cost of that freedom. The lives of children are more valuable than any contrived political argument that guns are a sacred right in this country. There is no reason that automatic weapons should be available to the general public. The only two types of individuals who need to own an automatic weapon are soldiers and mass murderers. Responsible gun owners do not need them for hunting or self-defense.

PA: Democratic Governor Uses Meme To Glorify Red Flag Laws Heres The Problem

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf has released a meme intended to simplify how so-called red flag laws work, including an explainer on how social media posts with gun images and messages encrypted could lead to the temporary confiscation of firearms.

Red flag laws allow authorities to confiscate firearms from people considered a risk to themselves or others, without having been convicted of a crime, in violation of the right to due process.

On the contrary, the Democratic governors cartoonish attempt to explain them raises more questions than answers.
