Gun-free zones an easy target for killers

The horrible tragedy last night that left nine people dead at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C., probably could have been avoided. Like so many other attacks, the massacre took place in a gun-free zone, a place where the general public was banned from having guns. The gun-free zone obviously didnt stop the killer from bringing a gun into the church.

Indeed, the circumstantial evidence is strong that these killers dont attack randomly; they keep picking the few gun-free zones to do virtually all their attacks.

For some reason, people who would never put up a gun-free zone sign in front of their own homes, put up such signs for other sensitive areas that we would like to protect.

At Crosspointe Church, a non-denominational church in Fayetteville, North Carolina, volunteers with black shirts and concealed weapons patrol the parking lot and stand unobtrusively in the margins during services and church activities.

They are called the Watchmen, a security team put together by pastor Tracy Pounders and his family. The presence of armed security in a place of worship is an unsettling dissonance for many, but at Crosspointe they are part of the larger ministry, and their origins are distinctly personal.

The Number Of People Who Use A Gun In Self-Defense Is Pretty Much Negligible

The day after 21-year-old Dylann Roof allegedly shot and killed nine members of the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, SC, Fox & Friends claimed congregants could have defended themselves if someone had a gun.
But a timely study from the Violence Policy Center (VPC) concluded that guns are rarely used for defensive purposes. According to the most recent data thats available, there were 8,342 criminal firearm homicides by private citizens (non-law enforcement members) in 2012 as opposed to 259 justifiable homicides. In other words, there were 32 criminal homicides for every killing of a felon who was in the process of committing a crime. And 13 states reported zero justifiable homicides that year.

On June 17, the Violence Police Center (VPC) released a study claiming that widely accepted numbers for annual self-defense gun uses are a figment of the NRAs imagination and have no basis in fact.

The study specifically attempted to disprove the figure of 2,500,000 defensive gun uses (DGUs) a year.

4. Is the Charleston mass shooting just one more sign that America needs sensible and reasonable gun control policies?

Define sensible and reasonable. The story today would be very different had one of the victims been able to exercise their basic (and constitutional) right to self-defense with their own, lawfully carried gun. We do not yet know if any victim was carrying a weapon or attempted to use it in self-defense. Nor do we know how Roof obtained his weapon. However, one thing we do know: not even the existence of the most draconian law in the land (prohibitions against murder that carry the death penalty) deterred this lawless act.

The Rev. Eddie Trice leads South Plains Church in Levelland. The pastor is not opposed to the idea of congregants bringing properly licensed weapons as a self-defense measure.

A lot of people debate that different ways, but in that church in South Carolina, if someone had been armed and shot back, probably that many people wouldnt have been killed, he said.

Answer: of course it does happen in other advanced countriesHungerford, Dunblane, Port Arthur in Australia, et cetera. I dont know about the frequency, but the massacres alluded to led to even stronger anti-self defense laws in Great Britain and Australia, and that led to a reign of criminal terror in London and the English countryside.

Also, why is the Kenyan-American Mr. Obama using the deprecated expression advanced countries? Well, the answer is that the levels of violence in non-advanced countriesAfrica, and South America, for exampleboggles the mind.

Heres a graph comparing the formerly advanced South Africa and still-advanced United Kingdom:

I know many of you are interested in hearing how the June 11th meeting at St. Georges Church in Tinley Park [our confrontation with rabid gun banner Father Pfleger] went?

The Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA) group showed up and made up about one third of the three hundred people who attended. Thanks to Mike Weisman who led the effort. Pfleger wasted no time in talking about guns but he also talked about the problems in the city: no money, no jobs and no opportunities. Most of Pflegers people had lost members of their family from gang violence, but he did not mention gangs. Drug fueled criminal gangs are the real problem.

Sen. Rand Paul took a risk Thursday. Speaking to an audience of religious conservatives in the wake of a racially charged shooting in South Carolina, Paul delicately suggested that Republicans might want to start focusing on other parts of the Bill of Rights than the Second Amendment.

"Everybody is for the Second Amendment. All 55 candidates running for president are for the Second Amendmenton our side," Paul told the crowd. "But the thing is that a lot of young people, that might not be their primary issue."

The paper's front page is a jarring reminder of the dual role of firearms in American public life. On the one hand, they are implements of murder, contributing to one of the highest firearm homicide rates among the world's wealthy nations. On the other, they're a source of entertainment, sport and self-defense for millions of Americans.

But rarely do you see those two roles juxtaposed as starkly as they are here.

The never-ending battle against massive resistance to the Second Amendment saw another skirmish yesterday with oral arguments in the rehearing of the critically important NRA-supported case of Peruta v. San Diego County.

As we reported earlier this year, a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit had initially ruled favorably for the plaintiffs. In a tremendously-reasoned and thoughtful opinion, the panel held that the San Diego County Sheriffs policy of refusing to issue licenses to carry firearms in public unless an applicant could demonstrate a special need the so-called good cause requirement was a violation of the Second Amendment.

Using inflated gun death numbers while calling for universal background checks and targeting / harassment of lawful gun shops, Dan Gross, stated:

In eight years, the Armatix iP1 a pistol that can be fired only if its user is wearing a wireless wristband that broadcasts on a specific frequency was ready.

But no gun shop in America will sell it.

The Armatix iP1 and other so-called smart guns have become the latest flash point in the long-running battle between gun rights and gun control.

A bill that would decriminalize the possession of some pocket knives has been stalled in the New York Senate for more than two years, and the main roadblock has been an ardent supporter of the Second Amendment, the I-Team has learned.
In 2013, Sen. Michael Nozzolio, a Republican who represents Seneca Falls and chairs the Codes Committee, voted against New York's SAFE Act gun control legislation, which was passed in the middle of the night that January in the wake of the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Hillary Clintons Attacks On First Amendment Could Have Ramifications For Second

Given Hillary Clintons history of attacks on the Second Amendment, its no surprise that she promises to erase the First Amendments essential protection of political speech.

In their ultimate wisdom, the Founders listed the right to keep and bear arms and rights of free speech and assembly at the top of the Bill of Rights. The two are entwined, each existing to protect the other.

NRA is the essence of a well-organized assembly as protected by the First Amendment. As individual citizens, we pool our knowledge, our beliefs, our energy and, perhaps most importantly, our funds to influence the course of our nation.

The wheels of justice ground to a halt again for D.C. gun owners on Friday.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia temporarily blocked a lower courts order that had mandated the District process concealed carry applications and disregard its good or proper purpose requirement.

The lower courts order arose in the [SAF] case of Wrenn v. District of Columbia, in which the judge made a preliminary finding that the good or proper purpose requirement likely offends the Second Amendment and ordered the District to stop enforcing it.

The North Carolina Sheriffs Association (NCSA) continues to be the only real roadblock to passing the PPP repeal contained in House Bill 562.

While the NCSA claims it has support for its position from at least 90% of its members, dozens of sheriffs have told NRA they support our position of repealing PPP and transitioning to NICS currently utilized by the majority of the country.

Numerous anti-gun organizations appear to be working in lock-step with the NCSA, and have been buying up air time to defeat the whole bill.

The blood of the nine victims shot by a deranged criminal at a South Carolina church had barely dried when, as if on cue, President Obama and his point man on gun control, Vice President Biden, stepped up to the microphones to issue a thinly veiled call for more gun control.

Ive had to make statements like this too many times, Obama began, prefacing his comments, as he always does, with concern not for the victims or the country, but for himself, as he did after the Sandy Hook shooting characterizing it as the worst day of my presidency.
