Like gun stores, shooting ranges in Colorado have seen an uptick in interest during the pandemic. And grants from Colorado Parks and Wildlife are helping some of these private facilities reload.

Every year, the state allocates between $400,000 and $750,000 to shooting ranges across Colorado through the Shooting Range Development grant program. The funds, which mostly come from federal taxes, go to existing ranges as well as the development of new shooting ranges. A separate CPW grant process helps fund improvements at the fifteen to twenty shooting ranges on public land in Colorado.

Cameron refused to offer any timeline for charging decisions involving the three Louisville police officers who shot and killed Taylor in a barrage of gunfire during a botched narcotics raid.

The officers were serving a no-knock warrant in a case involving a suspect who allegedly received packages at Taylors address years earlier. The suspect had been apprehended at another location hours before the shooting, unbeknownst to the officers, a lawyer for Taylors family previously told The News.

An investigation of this magnitude, when done correctly, requires time, Cameron said Thursday.

Not in a million years, not if all the nations prestigious public-relations firms were mobilized for the cause, could gun manufacturers have conceived of a more effective advertising campaign for their product than the defund the police movement.

Of course, realizing that a flagrantly anti-cop message might not sit well with a public still sweeping up shards of glass left by rioters in city centers across the country, Democrats and their media allies moved quickly to temper the movements message. But whatever defund the police ends up meaning in practice, it highlights a gaping disconnect between the Lefts anti-cop rhetoric and their anti-gun rhetoric about the Second Amendment.

As a native of Alexandria and a gun owner with a concealed hand-gun permit, I believe that city councils proposed anti-gun ordinance will infringe upon my freedoms. What right does the City of Alexandria have to take away the right of self-defense? Gun rights are human rights. Gun rights are womens rights.

The right to self-defense is especially important right now, as lawless looters and criminals assault bystanders and damage and burn buildings in Virginia and across the nation. The city does not have the right to completely ban law-abiding citizens from possessing guns in government buildings, parks, recreation and community centers and at permitted events and adjoining streets.

As things escalated, the district attorney says Baca pulled out a gun and opened fire, hitting a man. Prosecutors say Baca doesn't have a conceal carry permit, so he was charged with that crime.

As far as the shooting though, prosecutors say, right now those charges are on hold while investigators continue looking into what happened, including if Baca acted in self defense.

"We believe this is fundamentally an incomplete police investigation," Torrez said.

Baca's lawyer maintains this was self defense and that protesters were attacking Baca. Attorney Jason Bowles says when a protester pulled out a knife, Baca pulled out a gun to defend himself.

"We reach the question, then: Does the preface (the '13 words') fit with an operative clause that creates an individual right to keep and bear arms? It fits perfectly, once one knows the history that the founding generation knew and that we have described above. That history showed that the way tyrants had eliminated a militia consisting of all the able-bodied men was not by banning the militia but simply by taking away the peoples arms, enabling a select militia ... to suppress political opponents. This is what had occurred in England that prompted codification of the right to have arms in the English Bill of Rights.

They will be arriving in peace, and hoping to carry a message.

Omar Chatman, 41, is one of the organizers for 1,000 brothers and sisters in arms, a pro-Second Amendment walk planned for Saturday led primarily by Black gun owners in Oklahoma.

The demonstration, which will begin at 2 p.m. at Ralph Ellison Memorial Library, is intended to bring attention to the fact that Black Americans constitutional rights to carry firearms are not often respected, Chatman said.

A conservative American Patriot Rally at the Capitol tonight had visitors: the civil rights protesters who have been demonstrating for weeks in downtown Lansing.

About 300 people showed up around 6 p.m. for the rally in support of the Second Amendment right to bear arms. Some carried them openly.

About 40 civil rights protesters, led by Paul Birdsong, joined them by lying on the ground among the Second Amendment protesters. They lay prone on the Capitol grounds in memory of George Floyd, the Black man who was killed by Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin.

I bought a gun last weekend. Its not a purchase I wanted to make, and I pray I never have to use it, but with mayhem recently engulfing cities across the United States, I and many others are biting the bullet and purchasing firearms.

Mine is a Springfield 9mm something small enough to fit in my nightstand or under my drivers seat should I have to visit one of Americas many war-torn cities. But its powerful enough to do the job.

The dispute is about the Stored Communications Act of 1986, a federal law that prohibits an electronic communications service provider from sharing users communication and account records, subject to a list of exceptions. Theres an exception for law enforcement, but none for defendants. ... If youre accused of a crime, police and prosecutors can get a warrant to access your social media accounts, or other users accounts that could serve as evidence in the case. But if you go to these companies with a subpoena, they wont honor iteven if youve convinced a judge that the data might prove that someone else committed the crime, that a witness against you is lying, or that you acted in self-defense.

Now, the very same people who seek to infringe upon our constitutional right to bear arms in self-defense are saying that we should defund police. These are the same people who say we need gun control laws because people in danger should call the police instead of defending themselves.

How are they getting away with this nonsense?

Superior Court Justice Harold Stewart II ordered Asante to serve 35 years in prison for murder and robbery. Two others who were in the car at the time of shooting received lesser sentences.

The supreme court agreed with Asante that the judge erred in instructing the jurors on all of the elements of robbery, and that led to an error in the instruction on self defense on the murder count.

Millions of American gun owners are incredibly responsible. Every month, I find story after story of law-abiding citizens who used their firearms in lawful defense of themselves or others.

Unfortunately, in looking through these stories, I also find far too many instances where gun owners messed up, acted irresponsibly, or didnt appear to fully understand the limits of their right to self-defense.

The case is still live, its still a pending criminal case, he said. The charge is still a pending criminal charge.

In a written transcript of a June 11 video statement posted to the Shenandoah County Sheriffs Offices Facebook page, Sheriff Timothy Carter said that the charge against McCray of brandishing a firearm on June 1 would be dropped.

An African-American gun-rights group announced last Thursday it has seen unprecedented growth in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd.

The National African American Gun Association (NAAGA) saw thousands of new members join in the hours after the video emerged of Floyd's death at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer. That represents a new record in daily sign-ups for the group.

"2,000 people joined NAAGA in 36 hours after George Floyd," NAAGA founder Philip Smith said in a statement. "That broke our records. We're getting a ton of folks from all over."

In laymens terms, the court effectively said, We will not review the lower court decisions upholding these constitutionally questionable gun control laws.

Of course, the court could decide later this year to grant certiorari in a different Second Amendment case that has not yet been filed. But the reality is that the justices were presented with a perfect opportunity unlikely to repeat itself later this term, and still declined to take up a case.

That does not bode well for the near future.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
As nightfall does not come all at once, neither does oppression. In both instances, there is a twilight. And it is in such twilight that we all must be aware of change in the air, however slight, lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness. Justice William O. Douglas, US Supreme Court (1939-75)
