Over at The New York Times, Alan Berlow thinks he has discovered gun control that actually works. He hasnt, and its a pitiable liberal tendency to search desperately for successful gun control laws, year after year and ban after ban. It is the policy equivalent of Sasquatch: its out there, somewhere, even though theres no real demonstrable proof of it. You just have to keep looking.

DeGeus stood behind the glass casing at Tacti-Cool in Santa Maria, gripping an AR-15 rifle. Its one of Tacti-Cools more commonly sold firearms, but come January 2017, it could be reclassified as a banned assault weapon in California.
Should the gun restriction bills recently passed through the Senate become law, the AR-15 would join more than half of Tacti-Cools inventory in prohibition. DeGeus would likely lose his job. |

As apprentice gunsmiths many years ago, we used to look forward to the big Brownells book (now multiple books) showing up in the mail every spring.
To us, that was the Sears catalog of gun parts. We would ogle the new 1911 components and dream up custom Wildcats for different rifles to see if we could find the perfect barrel at Brownells. If we were restoring an old rifle we picked up on the cheap, we knew we could find replacement parts at Brownells. |

Accepting the National Rifle Associations endorsement last week, Donald Trump warned that Hillary Clinton wants to abolish the Second Amendment. CNN corrected him, noting that Clinton has never called for the abolition of the 2nd Amendment.
Although thats technically true, Clinton has done what amounts to the same thing. She has interpreted the Second Amendment so narrowly that it imposes no practical limits on gun control laws, and that interpretation is sure to guide her Supreme Court nominations if she is elected president. |

Elliot gave a statement that he came to the defense of Stephens and had to defend himself against Jones.
Jones and Elliot fell to the ground where Mr. Jones beat him with a pistol. During the struggle, the gun went off and Jones fled the scene, stated Farese.
Police arrived and found Jones suffering from a wound to the neck. He eventually died on the way to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Investigator Ealy admitted under cross-examination that he could not contradict that Elliotts conduct was not in lawful defense of Ms. Stephens and in lawful self-defense of himself, state Farese.
Farese says Tompkins found the City of Aberdeen had not established probable cause and the charge was dismissed. |

A lot of people may not know this, but it's perfectly legal to carry a concealed handgun in New York State. You just have to get a permit.
Gun owners say that is a problem in St. Lawrence County. Handgun permits are issued by a single judge. Judge Jerome Richards typically allows people to carry guns for sport or hunting, but not for self-defense. County lawmakers are trying to change that, but theyll have to go through Albany to do it. |

We wrote about the shooting of agitated convenience store customer Shawn Breland by an open-carrying firearms instructor (it says so, right on his shirt) when the incident took place in early April.
We noted at the time that the instructors decision to follow Breland out of the store, overtly attempting to get his license plate number, was a dangerous and needless provocation, roundly panned by defensive firearms experts and serious students of self-defense alike. |

"Take a deep breath, think about what you're going to do first, then act," said Kyle Vickers, an instructor with Premier Martial Arts in Lubbock. "If someone is pointing a gun at you, stay calm. Focus, and know your surrounding. If you know your surrounding, you know exactly what escape route you need to go to and as fastest you can to get to that."
He also adds that if you are being followed by gunman, a common misconception is to run in a zig-zag motion. He says that's not necessarily the best idea.

Under President Bill Clinton, veterans with PTSD lost their gun rights when the VA began forwarding veterans names to the FBI for placement in the NICS system.
Over 257,000 Veterans Lost Their Gun Rights Because of the Clintons
To date, over 257,000 military veterans have lost their gun rights because of the precedent that began under the Clinton administration.
And there is no doubt that this antipathy for our veterans gun rights continues with Hillary and that she wants to take away guns from far more Americans than simply veterans.

The five bills, which next go to the Senate for consideration, were introduced in response to the San Bernardino terrorist attack last December that killed 14 people.
Current law allows law enforcement officers and family members to ask a court to issue a restraining order removing guns from the person in question for up to one year.
The new bill allows employers, co-workers, teachers, mental health professionals and school administrators to also petition the court for gun-possession restraining orders. |

Under the final rule from HHS, providers and others are in fact permitted to disclose certain, otherwise private health information under HIPAAwithout patient authorizationto the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) maintained by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Prior to the final rule, the HIPAA Privacy Rule[iv] permitted disclosure of individually identifiable health information, or protected health information (PHI), without written authorization from the patient only in certain specific circumstances such as law enforcement situations or threat of immediate health or safety.
None of the HIPAA exceptions permitted disclosure to the NICS without authorization. |

It seems that people occasionally ignore those cute little signs of a gun with a slash through it indicating the area is supposedly a gun-free zone and bring in guns. This happens especially when there are no valiant TSA guards with X-ray machines guaranteeing their absence. Yeah, I was surprised, too.
And that's what happened at UCLA on Wednesday. Guns are not allowed on California's school campuses including UCLA's campus by law. |

Advocates of the Second Amendment celebrated an announcement May 26 that struck down the Districts gun law requirement to show good reason to get a permit to carry a concealed firearm. However, the celebration may be short lived as city attorneys filed an immediate appeal.
In a ruling last week, U.S. District Judge Richard Leon, called the regulation an unconstitutional burden, and issued a preliminary injunction that temporarily bans enforcement of the citys may issue laws while the case works its way through the court system.

Tomorrow is a big day for the gun prohibition lobby, which is encouraging gun control activists to dress up in orange in an effort to press their political agenda, which they invariably define as sensible although there is no evidence that any of their schemes has prevented a single violent crime.
This is the second annual event, and it's not just limited to Washington. It's all over the map. According to publicity from anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloombergs Everytown for Gun Safety, Wear Orange was inspired by friends of Hadiya Pendleton, a 15-year-old Chicago high school student killed by gunfire, who decided to honor her life by wearing orange the color hunters wear in the woods to protect themselves and others. |

A California legislator has done the seemingly impossible and united mental health professionals, gun rights organizations, and the ACLU against a proposed law. This legislation would open the door for people to be stripped of their Second Amendment rights without due process and based simply on an allegation from a co-worker, boss, or school official that they believe the person might be dangerous and might have access to a firearm. |

In February, Sacramento County, California was seeing a spike in concealed carry permits. Sheriff Scott Jones is a strong advocate of law-abiding citizens obtaining their gun permits saying, the ordinary American citizen face the same dangers as he does. ABC KXTV 10 reported at the time that since assuming the office, Jones has approved 90 percent of the applicants that want a carry permit. He wishes that number were higher. He also added that hes quick to give them, and quick to take them away for anyone who violates the law. Yet, for now, the concealed carry permit division is shut down due to budgetary matters. Its set to re-open in July, but some residents say its leaving them vulnerable. |
