A Prince George's County woman fatally shot her husband in an apparent act of self-defense Saturday after he attacked her at the Capitol Heights duplex where the pair lived in separate units, according to police and neighbors.
...
Police said Wilson's wife fired the fatal shot.
The circumstances of the incident are unclear, but police think that the shooting "appears to have been in self-defense," said Cpl. Mike Rodriguez, a spokesman for the Prince George's police department. Wilson, police said, had violated an active protective order when he attacked his wife. |

Like so many of us, myself included, Firby had taken a gun-training course that was required to legally carry on his person a concealed weapon for self defense. Any law-abiding citizen can take the course and be shown how to correctly handle a weapon. The course teaches people what the criminal element watches for to perform its evil craft, and what citizens should look out for to keep ourselves protected. The idea is to gain ground in our own safety, not to lose it to the criminal. Helpless victims are what they need. I, for one, will not be helpless against them.
Criminals need to know that the average citizen can stop threats, even with deadly force. Citizens need to know that we have that right and that we can use it. |

There are a few social issues in this country that, if judged by the output of so called mainstream media outlets, seem to be driven by pure emotion rather than logic and the laws of our republic. One could, I believe, argue that the top two issues falling into that category are those of abortion and gun control.
I believe that despite the constant flow of emotional rhetoric and lack of facts from these sources Americans can and will ultimately insist that logic and the law prevail, but not unlike the dreadful Dred Scott decision these things can take time to correct. |

One always can count on the New York Times to lie about the role of the state, and the Times especially goes bonkers when those lies involve guns. Today, long-time columnist Bob Herbert manages to take a government-caused massacre and lay it at the feet of right-wing crazies:
"There was a wave of right-wing craziness along those lines during the Clinton administration. Four federal agents were killed and 16 others wounded in 1993 during an attempt to serve a search warrant at the Branch Davidian compound near Waco, Tex., where a stockpile of illegal machine guns had been amassed. The subsequent siege ended disastrously with a raging fire in which scores of people were killed." |
On Terror Watch List, But Allowed to Buy Guns

People on the governments terrorist watch list tried to buy guns nearly 1,000 times in the last five years, and federal authorities cleared the purchases 9 times out of 10 because they had no legal way to stop them, according to a new government report.
In one case, a person on the list was able to buy more than 50 pounds of explosives.
The new statistics, compiled in a report from the Government Accountability Office that is scheduled for public release next week, draw attention to an odd divergence in federal law: people placed on the governments terrorist watch list can be stopped from getting on a plane or getting a visa, but they cannot be stopped from buying a gun. |

There are many advantages of nonviolent civilian-based defense. For one thing, a nonviolent army is not limited to the physically fit. Children, seniors, people of every age and condition, even the infirm, are capable of refusing to do what they are told to do. For another thing, even though suffering and death are an inevitable part of any social struggle, nonviolent resistance minimizes both the numbers of casualties and the amount of destruction. Another advantage of nonviolent resistance is that there is no such thing as final defeat, so long as a few people exist whose minds and spirit are not bent to the will of the ruler. For example "[a]fter more than forty years the Tibetans continue to resist the Chinese military occupation. ... [I]f the will to resist is maintained ... the defense cannot be defeated." |

In an alert to its members, GOA contends that under Obamacare's medical record computerization mandate, the government will be able to access your previously confidential medical records to deny you gun rights. .GOA concludes by urging members to contact their Congressional delegation via this easy to use action link.
But privacy experts are alarmed as well at the Obama administration's damn the torpedoes attitude to impose statist policy mandates at whatever the cost to privacy. . . . So even if gun rights are not your priority these days, you still might want to hit GOA's action link and tell your Congressional delegation to derail Obamacare before it's too late.

Wow. Jon Stewart really nails it. He criticizes everyone who rushed to blame the isolated murder at the Holocaust Museum on the ideological beliefs of their political enemies. He even goes after the gun controllers. A great bit. The most intelligent thing Ive seen on the whole affair in the entire mainstream media.
Also, as a reminder of why I still enjoy the show, despite my sharp criticisms, is this other recent bit, which humanizes Iranians. |

The General Accounting Office (GAO) of the United States has released a study on firearms trafficking and violence in Mexico.
The report, which NSSF is still reviewing, appears to be rife with error. Consider the following claim: According to U.S. and Mexican government officials, these firearms have been increasingly more powerful and lethal in recent years. For example, many of these firearms are high-caliber and high-powered, such as AK and AR-15 type semiautomatic rifles.
These rifles, of course, are no more powerful or lethal than any other lawful rifle, and they fire ammunition that is considerably less powerful than other hunting rifles. |

Ships from Miami steam into Jamaica's main harbor loaded with TV sets and blue jeans. But some of the most popular U.S. imports never appear on the manifests: handguns, rifles and bullets that stoke one of the world's highest murder rates.
The volume is much less than the flow of U.S. guns into Mexico that end up in the hands of drug cartels Jamaican authorities recover fewer than 1,000 firearms a year. But of those whose origin can be traced, 80 percent come from the U.S., Jamaican law enforcement officials have said in interviews with The Associated Press. |

Sources familiar with the case, and the fast food worker's account of what happened, say two off-duty Denver police officers placed an order from their car in the early morning hours of May 21. But once at the drive through window, the employee said the men became agitated and angry at how long their food was taking. The men thought they were being ignored, according to contacts familiar with the worker's account. The male clerk then said one of the officer's flashed his police badge and pointed a pistol through the drive through window in a threatening manner, before driving off without paying.
Both officers are assigned to Denver International Airport although only one has been placed on administrative leave with pay, pending the outcome of the case.

The Department of Defense has withdrawn a training manual question that linked protesters across the United States to terrorism, but there's evidence coming to light that describing Americans as terror suspects, or "low-level" terror suspects, is routine.
According to the letter from the Northern California ACLU, the DoD's "Annual Level 1 Antiterrorism (AT) Awareness Training for 2009" tells department personnel "that certain First Amendment-protected activity may amount to 'low-level terrorism.'" |

Let's consider two cases. In the first case, a driver with an elevated blood-alcohol level accidentally strikes and kills a pedestrian who was jaywalking. The driver enters a guilty plea for manslaughter and receives a sentence of 30 days in jail, two years house arrest, 1,000 hours of community service, eight years probation, and permanent revocation of his driver's license. The driver also reaches a financial settlement with the victim's family.
In the second case, a driver is intentionally speeding well beyond the posted limit when he strikes another vehicle, killing two sisters inside of it. The driver here is acquitted of vehicular homicide and is only fined a few hundred dollars for minor traffic violations. Since the driver was using his employer's vehicle, the employer reaches a financial settlement with the victims' family. |

It would be appropriate to give border police officers instruction regarding the protection of Jewish rights in Judea and Samaria,
Strook pointed out that in light of the governments decision to evacuate unauthorized outposts, Border Guard policemen have entered, with increasing frequency, into situations where they cause damage to human rights of Jews in Judea and Samaria.
The request also comes after the Judea and Samaria Border Guard commander Shlomi Even-Paz faced disciplinary action for confiscating a camera which recorded police violence against Jews and destroying the digital devices memory card.

NRA-ILA has recently received several calls from NRA members in border states who have been visited or called by agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. In some cases, agents have asked to enter these people's homes, and requested serial numbers of all firearms the members possess.
In each case, the agents were making inquiries based on the number of firearms these NRA members had recently bought, and in some cases the agents said they were asking because the members had bought types of guns that are frequently recovered in Mexico.
This kind of questioning may or may not be part of a legitimate criminal investigation. For example, when BATFE traces a gun seized after use in a crime, manufacturers' an
