Second Amendment advocates and California Democrats are squaring off in a series of fights that began in the courtroom of a single San Diego judge and could ultimately alter the national debate over gun control. Opponents of firearms regulations have steered a string of cases to U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez and he has struck down three major California gun laws, including the states assault-weapons ban earlier this month. He previously overturned a ban on magazines that hold more than 10 rounds in 2019, and mandatory background checks for ammunition purchases in 2020. |

In 2001, as part of a group of short magnum cartridges released in the early years of the new millennium, Winchester released the first of its Short Magnums the .300 Winchester Short Magnum, commonly referred to as .300 Win Short Mag or .300 WSM. Designed for American hunters, the ammunition used a standard .300 caliber bullet, but the .300 WSM appeared like a short, stubby-looking round compared to its .300 caliber siblings. |

A series of recent court rulings have held promise or overturing onerous infringements on our Second Amendment rights. If the rulings of Judge Roger Benitez are upheld, standard capacity magazine bans and semiauto bans could be a thing of the past. Thats a good thing.

On Tuesday, June 22nd, attorneys from the law firm Kirkland & Ellis will argue that Californias ban on standard-capacity magazines violates the Second Amendment before an 11-judge, en-banc panel of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, in an NRA-backed case. Our attorneys have already successfully argued this case before a three-judge panel that struck the ban last summer. Then California requested and was granted a re-hearing before an en-banc panel of the Ninth Circuit. This action vacated the previous decision. |

A group of Senate Republicans on Monday sent a letter to the acting director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to raise concerns that two of the agency's recently proposed gun rules could set the foundation for a national gun registry. One of the regulations, referred to as Proposed Rule 2021R-05, requires that licensed manufacturers and importers maintain permanent records of production or importation of firearms, in addition to receipts, proof of sales and other means of distribution, among other initiatives. |

A firearms market research report released late last month found that about 80 percent of American customers experienced difficulty finding ammunition in 2020. In 2020, four out of five consumers encountered out-of-stock issues while trying to purchase ammunition, while three-quarters encountered out-of-stock situations so far in 2021, Fox Business reports about a survey done by industry research firm Southwick Associates. |

Ive always felt starting a novice shotgunner with a .410 borders on child abuse. A .410 should properly be viewed as the reward for finally having learned a thing or two about wingshooting over the course of many seasons. Getting hooked on a .410 is something that generally happens once youre fairly well along in years, at least in my case. Id been a 12 or 20 guy all my life but once I began to show symptoms of Acute .410 Infatuation, concerned friends attempted an intervention, advising me to go to a 28 instead. Its a real gun, they told me. Anyway, what do you want with a bore-size measured in caliber instead of gauge? |

It was championship weekend for three Flint-area schools.
Grand Blancs baseball team and Owossos softball team both won their first state championships Saturday while Flushing won its second skeet championship seven seasons.
The Raiders hit 286 of 300 targets in the championship round to nip Rockford by two at Detroit Gun Club.
Each team breaks its roster down into squads of three, each shooter gets 100 targets and whichever three-person squad hits the most targets is crowned the champion.
Dylan Dick, Dalton Summerfield and Rebekah Peck shot for Flushing in the championship round.
We looked good through the season, said coach Marty Coe, who started Flushings skeet shooting program in 2014. |

Joe Biden and the Democrats have fired across the bow on gun control again. They're coming after Americans' private property. They want to shred the Second Amendment. This is nothing new. How they do a test run in this has taken a bit of an overhaul. After failing to convince the public to expand background checks, ban so-called high-capacity magazines, and reinstate the "assault weapons" ban (stupid term), the Left took its fight to the local level. And they've had success. |

Its not your fault if you hate the 6.5 Creedmoor. Anything as popular as the Creed is going to have its fanboys so annoyingly over the moon that they ruin it for anyone with a healthy contrarian bent. Theres nothing wrong with getting pumped up about something, but when the hysteria reaches Frosty-the-Snowman levels, youve got to draw the line. Six-five fanboys think there must be some magic in their favorite cartridge. Well, take it from me: Im a gun writer, and gun writers dont believe in magic. We believe in ballistics. So, if youre tempted to say, Dude, the 6.5 Creedmoor sucks!, heres the best way to back that up, based on facts.

In this strange situation we find ourselves in as a nation today, a scholarship contest for high school seniors in three states might just be the most politically incorrectand refreshingly patrioticactivity weve come across in a long while. Thats no surprise to those who know about Frontier Justice, a family-owned company that owns and operates three family oriented gun ranges in Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska. After all, the companys motto is faith, family and firearms. |

Republican lawmakers in Arizona are calling on Democrat U.S. Senator Mark Kelly, who represents the Grand Canyon State, to recuse himself from an upcoming confirmation vote for ATF director nominee David Chipman. "David Chipman currently works as a Senior Policy Advisor at Giffords, a gun control pressure group, founded by U.S. Senator Mark Kelly and his wife, former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, to aggressively advocate for radical action, including a ban on commonly owned semi-automatic rifles and the imposition of ruinous legal liability on firearm-related companies," an official proclamation, sponsored by Arizona State Representative Quang Nguyen, states.
