What makes a bad argument?

This would be an argument of omission. Making it requires omitting studies that show owning a gun substantially increases the risk of being killed with a gun, that defensive use cases might be vastly overstated, and that guns are used for violence far more often than they are used to defend oneself. It also requires omitting context on gun-free zones, like the fact that from 1950 to 1990 many states banned or heavily restricted concealed firearms, making essentially any mass shooting during those years one that took place in a gun-free zone.

1600 Pennsylvania Ave., we have a problem. The president is on the loose again, uttering nonsense about the Second Amendment.

President Joe Biden spoke to a collection of political donors as hes gearing up his 2024 re-election campaign and used his gun control grindstone to churn out well-worn and discredited Second Amendment tropes. The problem is its all malarky. No kidding, man.

Biden might just be the lying dog-face pony soldier he accuses others of being.

The number of legal suppressors or silencers in the United States shows they are in common use for lawful purposes. As of January of 2023, the ATF shows there were over 3.1 million silencers or suppressors legally owned in the United States for lawful purposes. In January of 2020, there were 1.8 million. Over the last three years, the number of legal suppressors has increased by an average of 450,000 suppressors per year. By the end of 2023, it is reasonably expected there will be over 3.6 million suppressors in the United States of America. To own these suppressors, the owners have gone through a complicated and lengthy process, often taking a year or more to process their applications for tax stamps.

With the establishment of a standing Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force and a National Guard, the need for armed citizens to protect this country from foreign enemies had long passed. The need for the Second Amendment went with it.

Some 22 million guns were sold that year, 64 percent more than in 2019. More than eight million of them went to novices who had never owned a firearm, according to the firearm industrys trade association, the National Shooting Sports Foundation.

Firearm homicides increased that year as well, to 19,350 from 14,392 in 2019. The death count from guns, including suicides, rose to 45,222 in 2020 from 39,702 in 2019. The number of lives lost to guns rose again in 2021, to 48,830.

The Best Pocket Pistols of 2023

While pocket pistols are sometimes derided as ineffective or inadequate for self-defense, its also often said that the best gun for self-defense is the one you have with you. Thats almost the entire point of a pocket pistol or micro-compact handgun. Theyre so small and so light that you can easily conceal and carry them.

Because of their convenience, pocket and micro-compact pistols are what I most often carry, and practice with. Despite the debate about their viability versus their subcompact and full-size counterparts, I know myself and my habits; Im more likely to carry the smaller guns.

In a word, trigger.

A Thurston County Superior Court judge today agreed with Attorney General Bob Ferguson and rejected an attempt to block Washingtons new law banning the sale of assault weapons. This is the second court in less than three weeks to rule that the ban should remain in place while legal challenges continue.

Today, Judge Allyson Zipp rejected a request in Guardian Arms v. Inslee to grant a temporary restraining order blocking the implementation of House Bill 1240. Ferguson and Gov. Jay Inslee jointly requested the bill.

On June 6, U.S. District Court Judge Robert Bryan also rejected a request to block the law in a separate case, Hartford, et al. v. Ferguson, et al.

Killer Mike has announced that hes not a fan of the new gun laws in the United States and he believes that without safety training, they will cause more harm than good to Black men and women.

The Run The Jewels rapper stopped by TMZ Live on Wednesday (June 21) to share his thoughts with host Harvey Levin.

The new laws affect Black people worst and first, he said, referring to the new curfew laws in Atlanta, GA, which are meant to curtail the uptick in violence.

I now believe that our Second Amendment right to bear arms should be changed into a responsibility. Instead of the U.S. Constitution protecting what we can do, it should be changed into what we must do. Heres my modest proposal.

Ed.: No constitutional changes required; the militia clauses already delegate Congress the authority to require the militia to arm themselves.

I read a recent news report of a defensive gun use that got me thinking about some bad self defense legal advice that I've seen online and heard from many people over the years. Maybe you've also seen or heard something like thisIf you draw the gun, you better use it, because if you don't, police can arrest and charge you with brandishing.

If a city or county in Idaho is against the Second Amendment, they now have a way to keep gun owners out of their city streets, public parks and county fairs, Herndon said. Simply lease the public ground to a private entity and let them ban guns from public property in Idaho."

Herndon, who represents the First Legislative District in Bonner and Boundary counties, said he will introduce legislation to protect gun rights in the state.

Guns are now the leading cause of death of children in the United States, where the number killed by gunfire increased 50% between 2019 and 2021 from 1,732 to 2,590. This is an especially stark rise.

Approximately 60% of all Americans support common-sense gun safety laws such as, raising the federal minimum age to buy a firearm from 18 to 21; mandating universal background checks; instituting a reasonable waiting period for all gun purchases; and banning civilian purchases of assault weapons.

Is the Supreme Court Ready to Walk Back Last Terms Historically Awful Guns Ruling?

There are reasons to think many lower courts are misinterpreting Bruen, however, reading it far too literally and narrowly. For the sake of individual and public safety, let us hope the Supreme Court agreesand does something about it, soon.

Prior to Bruen, lower courts had reviewed gun regulations under a standard that combined historical analysis and consideration of empirical concerns relating to firearm safety. Under that approach, many gun regulations survived Second Amendment challenges. Thats not surprising or anomalous. Under a very similar approach, a great many regulations continue to survive scrutiny under the First Amendment.

Roughly 15 months after a 22-year-old man was jailed on a charge of murder for a shooting on Christmas Eve 2021, prosecutors have changed their tune, saying that surveillance video and evidence at the homicide scene points to self-defense, court records show.

As a result, Emmanuel Gardner-Craft has been allowed to plead no contest to a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm, and Alameda County prosecutors are dropping the murder count against him. In exchange, Gardner-Craft will serve a two-year probation term, set to begin June 30, when he is formally sentenced. In the meantime, he remains in Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.

The violation of the Second Amendment is happening. Let us address this violation about with sensible, viable gun laws that will limit battlefield weapons like the AR-15. Background checks, waiting periods and mental health requirements are reasonable, workable beginnings to what numerous polls tell us the majority of Americans desire.

Let the gun owners of America unite. We are the militia that we must help one another regulate. The security of our free state is at risk. Lets get to work.
