Authorities in D'Iberville say they won't file charges against a woman who allegedly shot and killed her husband until a grand jury looks at the case.
Gene Hudson was shot and killed early Friday morning.
Police say it happened during a heated argument when he pointed a gun at his estranged wife, who then pulled out a gun of her own and fired.
Police have not labelled it self-defense, but are leaving it in the hands of a grand jury. |

Philosopher George Santayana said that those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. It's true. One of the reasons to study history is to avoid repeating past mistakes. When it comes to freedom, we cannot afford to forget the lessons of the past. So you and I need to know the history of gun control, because history teaches us there is a terrible price to pay when we lose our right to keep and bear arms.
Over 200 years ago, when the Founding Fathers drafted the Second Amendment, no one questioned the need for private gun ownership. |

St. Bonaventure baseball coach Larry Sudbrook was fined $1,000 yesterday after he pleaded guilty to mistakenly trying to carry a .357 Magnum revolver onto a commercial airplane. U.S. District Court magistrate Kenneth Schroeder accepted the plea to a federal infraction while describing Sudbrook's mistake as "mind-boggling." But, Schroeder said, "I'm firmly convinced, based on your background, that it was the result of human error." Sudbrook, who completed his 22nd year coaching the Bonnies last month, said he was relieved to put the case behind him with the plea bargain. |

What would persuade the armed residents’ patrol in the Edgewood neighborhood to put down its guns?
"What would it take? An automatic criteria that would get us to disarm right here, right now — we’d have to have a meeting about it — but an automatic criteria would be police chief out, community policing in. I mean real community policing; I don’t mean driving around the block once because we’re all standing here," was the response from patrol founder Eliezer Greer, renewing the group’s call for the ouster of Police Chief Francisco Ortiz Jr. |

A heated confrontation at a gun-store protest in Illinois left the Rev. Jesse Jackson in handcuffs but saying the shop owner attacked him. The civil rights leader called the trespassing charges against him "bogus" and accused cops of taking the side of the gun dealer who assaulted him. "He [the gun shop owner] literally had us arrested," Jackson, 65, told the Daily News after he was released on his own recognizance. The angry encounter occurred outside Chuck's Gun Shop, believed to be the state's largest gun dealer, in the Chicago suburb of Riverdale. |

It's difficult to shoot a moving target, Pfeifer said, but she doesn't instruct women to resist an armed attacker.
"If there's a weapon, I cannot tell them to go for it, to fight back," she said. "That's up to them. I would fight. I'd grab DNA, hair, skin samples, scratch them, bite them. But that's me. That's my personality."
In her self-defense class, Pfeifer educates women on how to become empowered during an attack, using stilettos [sic], keys or an umbrella to defend themselves.
"Rapists hate women who fight back," she said. "We know most criminals are lazy by virtue of their job choice. If you put any roadblock in their way, they're going to move on to someone who isn't going to provide those roadblocks." |

Authorities say they aren't likely to file charges against a woman accused of fatally shooting her husband until a grand jury looks at the case.
The shooting happened early Friday morning. Police say that during a heated argument, Gene Hudson pointed a gun at his estranged wife. She pulled out her own gun and fired, according to police.
Police found Hudson, a 52-year-old Moss Point man, in a "large pool of blood" around 1:30 a.m. Friday, said Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove.
...
“I’m not calling it self-defense at this point, but there was enough evidence there that suggests we should let the grand jury look at it,” he [Harrison County Sheriff’s Capt. Ron Pullen] said. |

Police say the store's owner shot one of two men, who were attempting to rob his store. He was trying to protect himself and his pregnant wife, and police say self defense is justified in this case. Captain Rich Foley says the owner did the right thing by defending himself and his family, since he was in fear of his own life and the lives of his wife and unborn baby. |

After defeating Fatah security forces and militias ... Hamas militiamen moved quickly to seize the arsenals of security forces loyal to Fatah. It was easy: most of the weapons were stored at security headquarters. ...Hamas estimates it has about 90 percent of the security forces’ guns, according to an Associated Press report. Finding who had firearms was easy for the Hamas militiamen; they simply checked the lists, saw which of the security forces officers had guns at home, and went and confiscated them. Although Hamas was using lists of security officers rather than registries of ordinary citizens, the episode shows the dangers of lists of gun owners if the wrong people get possession of them. |

L.C. Bulger III watched in mounting horror as a 10-year-old trained a chrome pistol first at his companion's head, then on a group of boys just down the Saginaw sidewalk.
Clad in his Sunday best, Bulger sprinted off his doorstep on the city's East Side toward the child gunslinger.
As he drew nearer and hollered for him to stop, Bulger saw the boy's friend had a gun of his own. Both boys whirled. |

Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. If you want me to do something for you, you have a choice of either convincing me via argument, or force me to do your bidding under threat of force. Every human interaction falls into one of those two categories, without exception. Reason or force, thats it. In a truly moral and civilized society, people exclusively interact through persuasion. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some.

It is easy to see why the 20,000-plus gun laws in our nation do not deter these types of attacks. Only law-abiding citizens honor the law, not the criminal nor the mentally disturbed. This creates a society of law-abiding, disarmed citizens who are helpless before those who would prey upon them.
WHILE CRIMES such as the one at Virginia Tech are always front-page news, you almost never see reporting of the more than 2.5 million successful defensive handgun uses that occur in the United States every year. This amazing number comes from a peer-reviewed study by Dr. Gary Kleck of the University of Florida’s Criminology Department and was subsequently validated by the Clinton administration’s Justice Department. |

Gov. M. Jodi Rell has approved a new law that will penalize gun owners if they fail to report lost or stolen firearms to police within 72 hours.
...The law takes effect Oct. 1, joining similar ones already on the books in Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Ohio and Rhode Island. Other states are also considering such proposals.
Under the new law, a first-time failure to report a lost or stolen gun within 72 hours of discovering it is missing is an infraction, punishable by a fine up to $90. Any subsequent, unintentional failure to report a lost or stolen gun is a felony that carries a prison sentence of up to five years and a fine of up to $5,000. |
