A Westgate man who shot into a Jeep, killing two men and injuring another was acting in self-defense, a jury ruled Monday.
After a six-day trial, the jury found Norman Borden, 44, not guilty of charges that included two counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder and one count of shooting into an occupied vehicle.
Borden shot at three men who were in the Jeep in October 2006. The shooting happened after the group confronted Borden as he walked his dogs. |

Late last week, the Associated Press reported that police had found a loaded gun in the car of a man accused of threatening a woman on the Shawnee State University campus in Portsmouth, Ohio. What the AP did NOT note is that this was yet another example of how impotent gun ban laws are at stopping violent criminals. |

No “real ID”, no job.
And, no gun. Background checks necessary to acquire firearms will require “real ID”. Acquiring guns requires processing through a state licensed gun dealer who also has to be a Federal Firearms Licensee who'll need a “real ID”.
The federal law provides discretion as to what information will be coded onto the “real ID” card – our driver’s licenses here in California. Clearly that would include any concealed weapons permits – and might extend to the registration numbers of acquired firearms. This possibility...has led the GUN OWNERS OF AMERICA to lead a campaign to thwart state compliance with “real ID”. |

PHOENIX — State lawmakers are making a last-ditch effort to retroactively change self-defense laws to help overturn the murder conviction of one man and help another escape being found guilty.
A bill sent to Gov. Janet Napolitano in the last hours of the legislative session would spell out that a law altering the self-defense statutes that took effect in April 2006 applies to any cases that had not yet gone to the jury on that date.
Napolitano vetoed a similar measure earlier this year, saying she feared the change would upset far too many cases. So Sen. Linda Gray, R-Glendale, redrafted the legislation to narrow its scope a bit. |

The bill, which the House passed two days before the e-mail went out, would provide funding to states that submit the names of people found by a court to suffer from mental illness into the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System. Gun shops are already required to run the names of purchasers through that system before a sale. A 1968 law prohibits people “adjudicated as a mental defective” from purchasing guns, but the statute is not often enforced because most states don’t share their mental health records with the FBI. |

"I want to personally apologize for our West Memphis Police Department, since I am a council person and of course represent the police department," said Robinson. "We do have some good officers. I don't know what went through that officer's mind to shoot and murder this little boy."
Police said the boy had a toy gun and the officer was acting in self defense, but neighbors at the steeplechase apartments said he was only carrying a bag of Cheetos and a Coke, both of which sit at his memorial now.
"If he had a toy gun, where is the gun now," asked neighbor Wendy Jones. "Why can't they produce the gun now? I think it was a deep tragedy. It could have been prevented." |

Bloomberg's main claim to fame these last six years is that he banned smoking in public places and the use of trans-fats in New York City restaurants. He is a supporter of abortion on demand and favors special rights for homosexuals. He also is about as hostile to the Second Amendment as any politician in America, having once threatened to use his own money to sue firearms manufacturers he claimed were "flooding the city with guns." In every way one can think of, hizzoner is an unabashed liberal.

To avoid serving prison sentences for tax evasion, Ed Brown and his wife, Elaine, have locked themselves off from the world on their own terms.
From behind the 8-inch concrete walls of their 110-acre hilltop compound, the couple taunt police and SWAT teams and play to reporters and government-haters with references to past standoffs that turned deadly.
Residents want the Browns' circus to end before their small town along the Connecticut River becomes the next Ruby Ridge or Waco.
The Browns raised the specter of the first case, the 1992 shootout at an Idaho property called Ruby Ridge, by holding a news conference Monday with Randy Weaver, whose wife and child were killed there along with a deputy U.S. marshal.

... "Question: is it more in the public interest to see students carrying weapons than to see them unarmed and vulnerable? Is it in the public interest to question citizen authority to act and to characterize liberty individuals as anti-social, and to disarm them? Is it in the public interest to be alone and defenseless, or alone and armed not only with the personal weapon, but also with their legal authority?"
"Legal authority is key to the discussion."

After reading Richard Liebson's June 4 article, "Judge ponders gun-licensing policy for Westchester," I feel compelled to offer my viewpoint on the issue of gun permits in Westchester. Every time we read or hear about violent crime involving guns, we also hear a cry from politicians for more gun control. There have been quite a few studies published on this issue (i.e., "More guns, less crime," John R. Lott Jr., 1998) that have shown that guns carried by law-abiding citizens actually reduce crime. However, in the particular debate we need not enter into that argument. This is a matter of law that simply gets overlooked by the people of Westchester in the impassioned debate over gun control. |

With the recent terrorist scare at John F. Kennedy International Airport, and the potential permanent placement of a nine-story-high, 600-yard-long gas barge in the Long Island Sound, legislation to ban anti-armor sniper rifles was pushed by Assemblywoman Patricia Eddington right up to the end of the legislative session. The bill (A.02772) sponsored by Eddington, D-Patchogue, would ban the use, sale or possession of .50-caliber sniper rifles as well as impose additional penalties for felonies committed with the weapons. It was passed by the Assembly nearly two months ago, but did not move in the Senate. |

he National Rifle Association, which has portrayed Mayor Michael Bloomberg as a villain preying on America's gun owners, has asked local television affiliates in several states not to air an ad created by his anti-gun group. Bloomberg's coalition of Mayors Against Illegal Guns has purchased air time and run ads in the districts of various members of Congress. The ads urge the repeal of a piece of congressional legislation that the mayor argues prevents federal authorities from sharing gun trace data with cities and local law enforcement. |

Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor Timothy P. Murray testified today before the Joint Committee on the Judiciary in support of House Bill 3991, An Act to Reduce Gun Violence and in support of House Bill 501, An Act to Enhance Information Sharing Concerning At-Risk Juveniles. Gun violence claims lives and causes immeasurable pain to the families of victims. We simply cannot allow this spiraling violence to continue, Lt. Governor Murray told the committee. House Bill 3391 would enhance the prohibitions on the sale of illegal guns and initiates the process of ending gun violence in 3 significant ways. |

I wonder what defines mentally ill in this bill? I would assume anyone deemed harmful to themselves or others is on the no gun list, as they should be. But what about those of us who have experienced depression, anxiety or even the occasional nightmare? I dont think a person with a mental illness who is deemed a harm to himself or others should be within 100 yards of a weapon. But let me play devils advocate: where do we draw the line? Mothers with post-partem depression? Redeployed soldiers with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder? An adult sorting through terrifying memories of childhood abuse? A teenager who is old enough to get a hunting license, and endures the wrath of a bully every day in school?

Here's an example of how to sand cast a part out of aluminum. I've learned better ways of doing this, but this method is used a lot anyway, and it's the only one I have video of. It's basically how to turn an ugly old SKS into something that looks more like an AK. This is another one of those from about 20 years ago that I happened to still have on VHS tape. |

For five years, the National Rifle Association and its allies have successfully lobbied Congress to limit the ability of local police to access federal gun trace data. Now, by moving to remove those limits and increase the ability of local officers to track so-called crime guns, Sen. Barbara A. Mikulski is venturing into what is rapidly emerging as the latest battlefield in the war over gun rights. |

Gun advocates are praising Ohio politicians who support keeping secret the identities of residents who have been granted licenses to carry concealed handguns. Gov. Ted Strickland's office, state Rep. Chris Redfern, D-Catawba Island, and state Rep. Matt Barrett, D-Amherst, all said they support the 2004 law as written, which includes a secrecy provision exempting information about the licensing program from the public record. Ashley Varner, a spokeswoman for the National Rifle Association said all three men are listening to their constituents, not just the NRA. |

Donnelly and a 17-year-old member of his youth group were staying all night at the stand when a group of about five or six individuals arrived in one vehicle, he said. Several individuals went into the back of the large tent stand. The youth was attacked, knocked down and then rolled outside the tent, screaming for help. Three subjects rushed Donnelly about that same time, who was outside the tent, said Muskogee Assistant Police Chief Johnny Teehee. I shot I was in fear of my life and Daniels life I feel I did what I had to do, Donnelly said in a Sunday night phone interview. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
I do believe that where there is a choice only between cowardice and violence, I would advise violence. Thus when my eldest son asked me what he should have done had he been present when I was almost fatally assaulted in 1908 [by an Indian extremist opposed to Gandhi's agreement with Smuts], whether he should have run away and seen me killed or whether he should have used his physical force which he could and wanted to use, and defend me, I told him it was his duty to defend me even by using violence. Hence it was that I took part in the Boer War, the so-called Zulu Rebellion and [World War I]. Hence also do I advocate training in arms for those who believe in the method of violence. I would rather have India resort to arms in order to defend her honor than that she should in a cowardly manner become or remain a helpless witness to her own dishonor. Mohandas K. Gandhi, Young India, August 11, 1920 from Fischer, Louis ed.,The Essential Gandhi, 1962 |
