A South Carolina pastor disarmed the honest men and women in his congregation. The pastor was also a state legislator. His votes for gun prohibition helped create an entire state full of disarmed victims in every church, every mosque and every temple.
I believe we are safer when honorable men and women are armed. The gun-grabbing ideologues think Im crazy. They want a world where guns dont exist.
I think theyre crazy. Now I want to explain how their craziness spreads. Anti-rights advocates offer an emotional appeal to an idealized pre-rational fantasy they call gun control. The ideology of disarmament has many aspects that make it an easily marketable idea. It offers a vision of moral superiority and is easily sold. |

A controversial Pennsylvania bill signed by Gov. Tom Corbett (R) last year which allows third parties to sue municipalities over local gun codes stronger than the states was overturned Thursday.
The measure, backed by gun rights groups, squeaked through the state legislature as an amendment to a metal theft bill. As state Dems and gun control groups rallied to block the implementation of the new law and State Attorney Gen. Kathleen Kane announced she would not defend it, Second Amendment groups launched a volley of lawsuits under its protections against municipalities whose laws were brought under scrutiny. |

But as Lipsky points out, these are not viable tactics, and if Democrats are serious about making any sort of modifications to the nations gun laws, they are going to have meet the NRA and the Republican-dominated Congress in a compromise.
The compromise he suggests is working with gun rights supporters to craft legislation that make sit more difficult for the dangerously mentally ill to get firearms, in exchange for robust nationwide firearms reciprocity.

Black victims accounted for nearly 60 percent of the justifiable homicides committed with firearms in the United States between 2008 and 2012, according to a new report by the Violence Policy Center.
The Violence Policy Center (VPC), a national group working to eliminate gun deaths and injuries, analyzed data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Justice Statistics and found that more than 30 percent of homicides involving a White shooter and a Black victim were later ruled justified, during that time period. Just 6.3 percent of homicides involving Black shooters and White victims were deemed justified. More than 90 percent of the Black people killed in justifiable homicides with a firearm were shot by Blacks. |

We have all been harshly schooled by the right wing in recent days about the inappropriateness of talking about policy in the aftermath of a mass murder. Its very rude. Possibly the worst thing anyone can do at times such as these is to try to find reasons for the actions and attempt to find some way to avoid tragedy in the future. This is known as politicizing a tragedy and its very upsetting to the delicate sensibilities of our conservative patriots. |

Two prominent Republicans expressed anti-gun views following the Charleston killings last week, proving how the Republican establishment can be just as bad as Democrats when it comes to Second Amendment issues.
First, Fox News talking head Bill OReilly proposed a solution to gun violence that would involve federalizing all gun crimes, saying if anyone is caught with a gun, in the commission of any crime at all, it [should] automatically become a federal beef. If convicted in federal court, the offender gets a mandatory sentence of ten years. |

A Democrat elected official rattled by Second Amendment supporters turning out to fight new gun restrictions had a two-word answer for the people who elected him:
Shut up!
When the Poughkeepsie, N.Y., city council had a restrictive gun proposal under consideration at its June 15 meeting, members of the Dutchess County chapter of the Shooter Committee On Political Education showed up to exercise their constitutional rights. |

A Dominos pizza delivery driver in Florida has been placed on leave after he shot at two masked men who attempted to rob him early Wednesday morning.
...
A spokesman for Dominos tells The Daily Caller that Henrys self-defense gun use will not trigger an automatic termination.
Right now, the driver is on paid leave pending the outcome of the investigation, Dominos corporate spokesman Tim McIntyre told TheDC. Every situation is different and its far too early to make a determination like that. Weve offered him counseling should he need it after such a traumatic experience. |

As law enforcement, the sheriffs department's job is to work on behalf of all the citizens and to continue improving programs and services to ensure that the community is best being served, said guest speaker District Attorney Ashley Welch during the Macon County Sheriffs Office Citizens Academy graduation ceremony last Thursday. Citizens Academy is a great program that is reaching out to the community and offering residents an inside look at law enforcement and all it takes to keep our community safe. Not only do I commend the sheriffs department for putting the program on, but I commend you as citizens for wanting to spend your time learning more about law enforcement. |

As of now, according to Sandra Barreras with Ladies of the Second Amendment (LSA), the group that brought the lawsuit, there is no regulation to purchase or carry (and) all purchases will be handled in accordance with federal firearms regulations. LSA is affiliated with SAF through the International Association for the Protection of Civilian Arms Rights (IAPCAR).
The class-action lawsuit challenged various articles in Puerto Ricos gun law, which the court declared unconstitutional. Because of the ruling, Barreras said, Puerto Ricans may now carry openly or concealed without a permit, and they do not need to obtain a permit before purchasing a firearm. |

An 1848 "Colt pocket pistol," once owned by former White House spokesman James Brady, nearly killed in the attempted assassination of Ronald Reagan, is being sold by a gun rights group to raise money to fight Brady's gun control group.
The current owner of the "Rammerless 1849 Colt Baby Dragoon," offered by GunAuction.com for $1,500, indicated that the gun was an "important symbol" to be used to reclaim Second Amendment rights that Brady and his wife tried to limit. |

Gun rights opponents have a tendency to behave like pyromaniacs in a field of straw men, relentlessly burning down the most obviously frivolous arguments while ignoring the more complicated ones. If we are ever going to reach a consensus that is respectful of the rights of gun owners while also cognizant of the safety risk posed by the availability of firearms in the United States, we are going to have to spend less time mocking dumb arguments and more time grappling with the complex philosophy that animates the Second Amendment. |

What the official ending of the 48 hour cooling off rule did have something to do with was a decades-old fiction concerning another gun horror, this the 1991 killings of a Wisconsin woman named Bonnie Elmasri and her two children.
In the aftermath of that triple homicide, pro-gun advocate James Fendry offered a remarkable tale. Fendrywho reportedly founded his Wisconsin Pro-Gun Movement in 1981 at the urging of the NRAs Institute for Legislative Actionannounced that a woman named Bonnie had called him a day or two before the tragedy, saying she was desperate to get a gun to protect herself from her estranged and abusive husband. |

The media will pounce on any suspicion of a white-on-black crime, spend a year being hysterical about it, and, if it turns out to be a false alarm, refuse to apologize, before quickly moving on to the next hoax.
The Charleston church shooting is the first case in a very long time in which blacks really were targeted by a white person because of their race (and had the misfortune of being in a gun-free zone). Even Bennett had to reach back to stories her grandmother told her about the Ku Klux Klan (100 percent Democratic) to come up with a previous example of whites terrorizing blacks. |

On Thursday, Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) said he is not confident that Walmart clerks can sell gun responsibly.
CNN quoted Murphy as part of a larger push to get Walmart to consider banning guns in the wake of their announcement that they have banned the sale of Confederate flags.
Murphy criticized the fact that Walmart has guns displayed their stores, saying, I would hope that stores like Walmart would recognize the danger of having these guns displayed an aisle away from microwave popcorn and and Xbox games.

While legally open carrying my pre-1899 black powder pistol and recording from a public sidewalk across the street from the police department, I was conducting a citizen seatbelt audit to find out if those who enforce the law were actually abiding by it.
It wasnt long before one officer, T. Bagley (179), approached jaywalking across four lanes of traffic and asked if he could help me. I politely declined his offer.
However, it soon became evident the Texas cop had no intention of helping me and was only focused on impeding my First Amendment right to record public officials in a public space. |

The senator has supported bills that would allow guns on Amtrak and voted against the Brady bill, which would enforce federal background checks to be conducted on firearm purchasers. Yet, in 2013, Sanders voted in favor of the assault weapons ban in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy.
Sanders mixed record on gun rights leaves many questions for how he would treat the Second Amendment if he were to be elected president. For now, hes made it clear hes no gun grabber.
Ed.: Voting to ban firearms is the penultimate expression of being a 'gun grabber'. |

In a not totally unexpected move, Senators Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) are exploring ways to reintroduce and pass legislation similar to their bill that was rejected by the Senate by 54 to 46 (60 votes were needed for passage) back in 2013. That rejected bill which was described as a compromise measure would have expanded background checks to include sales made at guns shows and online in addition to the already-required checks for buyers purchasing firearms made from licensed commercial gun dealers. |

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker yesterday signed legislation to end the Badger States 48-hour waiting period on handgun sales, a sensible move that is already drawing fire from anti-gunners, while another pro-rights governor Bobby Jindal of Louisiana opened his run for president a week after blasting Barack Obamas quick exploitation of the Charleston tragedy.
Walker gained popularity with Wisconsin gun owners soon after being elected four years ago, by doing what his anti-gun predecessor had twice refused to do by veto. He signed concealed carry legislation, making Wisconsin the 49th state to adopt a concealed carry law. The new law takes effect Friday, according to published reports. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. ~ Marcus Tullius Cicero (42B.C) |
