Walton County gained a new weapon in its arsenal, but some feel that the addition is overkill. The Walton County Sheriffs Office got the mine-resistant, ambush-protected (MRAP) vehicle for the cost of transporting it. The vehicle, for which the department paid $2,500, was a surplus military vehicle that was demilitarized for law enforcement use. Walton County Sheriffs Office Mike Adkinson calls it an insurance policy, to help keep deputies safe in dangerous situations. ... However, some citizens disagree with the decision. One Destin resident commented on the Walton County Sheriffs Facebook page that the county didnt need an MRAP.

Sheriff Bill Gore said law enforcement will protect you if you live in San Diego County. That is hard to believe given the thousands of crime victims in the county each month. Sheriff Gore says he cant issue San Diego citizens a license to carry a weapon, though many other California Sheriffs do exactly that. In San Diego County, 150 people a day will be defenseless victims of crime. That will continue until Sheriff Gore acknowledges their right of self-defense. |

A well known example that most people are familiar with is the original M16 rifle. When the M16 was first developed it was designed to have a chrome lined barrel and bolt carrier group. The geniuses in the government focused their attention on the costs of chrome lining the barrel and BCG and viewed it as an unnecessary expense. They underestimated the importance of a finish to improve reliability. Due to their failure of foresight many of our young soldiers died. Once the chrome lining was approved and implemented, along with new cleaning kits issued, reliability was increased to operational standards. However the price to learn that lesson was heavily paid by our boys in the field. |

If Senators Harry Reid, Dick Durbin, Chuck Schumer and Dianne Feinstein keep their iron grip on the U.S. Senate majority after the November elections, the Second Amendment could be rendered dead as a doornail by a Barack Obama-packed U.S. Supreme Court.
Some pundits have wagered that its a certainty President Obama will have an opportunity to fill at least two lifetime vacancies on the high court before he leaves office. |

U.S. District Chief Judge Marcia Krieger dismantled with welcome precision Thursday the arguments of those seeking to overturn Colorado's new gun laws.
Consider the ban on large-capacity magazines. Despite the law's broad scope, Krieger explains, "the statute's impact on a person's ability to keep and bear (use) firearms for the purpose of self-defense is not severe. |

The family of a North Carolina man who was shot and killed while committing an armed robbery is calling for stricter gun laws. Dante Williams, 19, and his accomplice Jawan Craig walked into the Waffle House restaurant and "terrorized" the customers in 2012 intent on robbing it at gun point. Upon being approached by Williams, gun in hand, one of the patrons, Justin Harrison who also had a concealed weapon on him but had an actual permit for it shot Williams in self-defense, killing him "almost instantly," according to a Fox News affiliate in North Carolina. Fox only recently acquired the video footage from the 2012 incident. |

Gun owners in the Empire State can breathe a sigh of relief as the New York Legislature concluded its 2014 regular session last Friday. Despite the ongoing litigation seeking to overturn last years damaging SAFE Act, anti-gun state lawmakers were busy once again continuing their attacks. The NRA was actively engaged in Albany again this year working against these additional gun control bills and fighting funding for the SAFE Act in the state budget. |

"From a lot of Republicans, the first thing they're going to want to know is, 'Where do you stand on firearms ownership?'" said Brandon Ross, 32, at a meeting of the Manchester Republican Committee last week. "That's a big issue here."
The Second Amendment came up often in New Hampshire. The fact that Christie hasnt allowed any major anti-gun legislation to pass in New Jersey, despite a Democratic Legislature, didnt score him points.
"If you dont support the Second Amendment, what else in the Constitution dont you support?" asked Paul Chauvin, 51. "And I use that as a litmus test, as a guide, to how much someone really respects the Constitution." |

A federal judge upheld gun laws on Thursday introduced by Colorado in the wake of deadly shooting rampages there and in Connecticut, dismissing a lawsuit brought by sheriffs, gun shops, outfitters and shooting ranges.
The two laws, passed in 2013 by Colorado's Democratic-controlled legislature with scant Republican support, banned ammunition magazines that hold more than 15 rounds and required background checks for all private gun sales and transfers.
The bills were introduced in response to a shooting spree in 2012 that killed 12 people at a suburban Denver movie theater, and the slaying later that same year of 20 children and six adults at an elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. |

The National Shooting Sports Foundation today released a report that may not make gun prohibitionists happy, but tax collectors and economists in several states including Washington just might break out the party favors.
According to the NSSF report, Economic Impact of Hunting and Target Shooting in America, American spending by sportsmen and women results in a total impact of $110 billion annually to the U.S. economy. Further, the organization said, these expenditures result in a combined tax total (local, state and federal) of more than $15 billion. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
In the end, more than freedom, they wanted security. They wanted a comfortable life, and they lost it all security, comfort, and freedom. When the Athenians finally wanted not to give to society but for society to give to them, when the freedom they wished for most was freedom from responsibility then Athens ceased to be free and was never free again. EDWARD GIBBON [On ancient Athens] |
