SAN ANTONIO - A South Texas sheriff's deputy has been accused of putting a kitchen knife to his son's throat to quiet the boy.
Bexar County sheriff's Deputy Ronald Bailey turned himself in Thursday on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He's free on $25,000 bond and on administrative leave.
Prosecutors say Bailey was indicted Wednesday over a September incident at his San Antonio home while with his children.

On June 26, the Huffington Post ran a column focused on how Australian comedian Jim Jefferies shoots down [the] 2nd Amendment with humor.
A central component of this humor is to equate gun rights with slavery and talk about how a constitutional amendmentlike the one that banned slaverycould be used to overturn the protections the Second Amendment affords to the rights of self-defense and bearing arms. |

I thanked God the man who broke in was off the streets and unhurt. I thanked God my daughter and her husband don't have a gun in the house.
This is what my daughter knows: A gun in the house is most likely to be used on someone who lives there. She has studied articles like the one Dr. Arthur Kellermann wrote in the Journal of Trauma, Injury, Infection, and Critical Care, titled "Injuries and Deaths Due to Firearms in the Home." He wrote that a gun in the home is 22 times more likely to be used to kill or injure in a domestic homicide, suicide or unintentional shooting than to be used in self-defense.

The state legislature left the Capitol early Friday without making any changes to the controversial gun-control law installed in 2013.
After some Senate Republicans ran for office last year vowing to seek a repeal of the gun-control law, they were unable to reach a deal to reform the SAFE Act, drawing the ire of gun-rights groups.
"Am I disappointed? Absolutely, and I think the gun owners of New York state are going to be disappointed also," said Thomas King, the president of the state Rifle & Pistol Association. |

The diatribes and dysfunctional rhetoric continue to echo through the halls of vapid Congress, and down the winding streets of perfunctory America following another mass shooting in South Carolina (whose really counting at this point?).
The National Rifle Association and its smug compatriots wallow in the mythic glow of the shooting's aftermath, and the political pundits riff and scribe from either side of our Second Amendment abyss. In rapid response, American gun sales have expanded (again), and in a strange twist of inexplicable fate the Indiana legislature announced the legalization of the manufacture and sale of sawed-off shotguns. Who said timing isn't everything? |

Its not just the Confederate flag thats under renewed fire, but guns as well.
Now that the politically correct crowd has pressured Walmart and other retailers into pulling the flags and other Confederate imagery from their stores, anti-gun activists are asking that firearms be next in line for removal.
The debate over the Confederate flag has also raised broader questions about where the line should be drawn for retailers that sell other questionable or offensive products, CNNs M.J. Lee wrote before launching into a column about gun-control activists pressuring the retailer to pull back on its support for the Second Amendment. |

It seems that massacres have become our "new normal."
They happen, then a lot is said, but nothing is done. If the slaughter of 20 New Town, Conn., children wasn't enough to drive preventative actions nothing will, and shame on us for it.
Is this justified by knowing that behind our insanity we can say, "No matter what, we have not violated the Constitutional Second Amendment? We are just sticking to a right our Founding Father gave us." And is it more important to hide behind the Second Amendment than to be more civilized and try to work together to prevent further massacre-tragedies? |

A federal appeals court said a U.S. Postal Service regulation banning firearms on postal property is constitutional, and reversed a lower court ruling that would have let people keep weapons inside their vehicles in post office parking lots. By a 2-1 vote on Friday, the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver ruled against Tab Bonidy, a licensed gun owner who said the restrictions violated his Second Amendment right to bear arms.
Circuit Judge David Ebel said the right to carry firearms does not apply to federal buildings such as post offices, and that while it was a "closer question" he would not second-guess the Postal Service's extending the ban to its parking lots. |

In the wake of mass shootings in Charleston, S.C., Washington murmured about resurrecting failed firearm control legislation, yet the Houses Second Amendment defenders stuck to their guns about a push to further dismantle local weapons laws in the District of Columbia.
Even though we have a lot of folks on this issue that speak emotionally, we have really good data sets from at least our state that show from experience, said Rep. David Schweikert, an Arizona Republican who endorsed a bill supporters say would take away the D.C. Councils ability to enact gun control measures. |

The charitable fundraising arm of the National Rifle Association the NRA Foundation is applying for a special license plate in Kentucky to help collect donations from the state's myriad gun enthusiasts.
The state's seven-member license plate committee will review the application on Monday. If approved, the foundation would have two years to collect signatures and a $25 fee from 900 supporters to begin production of the plate. |

No criminal charges will be filed in the fight-related blunt trauma death of a West Oakland man in April, authorities said Friday.
After a review of witness statements, video surveillance and other evidence, it was decided that a 40-year-old man involved in a violent physical confrontation with Barry DeWitt, 58, who died April 4 from head injuries, acted in self-defense, authorities said. |

Most of the communications I receive press their message in the third and fourth phrases and ignore the first two phrases. This, to me, is a totally biased viewpoint and, in my estimation, calls for some kind of action, possibly another amendment. In any event, it should at least give us the freedom to regulate gun ownership in whatever manner is deemed necessary. |

By using the Constitution in such a manner, the Court argues that the Due Process Clause extends certain personal choices central to individual dignity and autonomy accepted in a majority of states across the state lines of a handful of states that still banned the practice.
The vast majority of states are shall issue on the matter of issuing concealed carry permits, and enjoy reciprocity with a large number of other states.
My North Carolina concealed carry permit, for example, was recognized yesterday as being valid in 36 states, which just so happened to be the number of states in which gay marriage was legal yesterday. But 14 states did not recognize my concealed carry permit yesterday.

Now in Indonesia I feel at times slightly vulnerable since my Indonesian wife and I are basically not allowed to own a gun and are therefore technically not able to protect ourselves, our children or our property efficiently.
Crime-rates are relatively high (in particular in cities) and the only ones who are meant to protect my family, my property and myself are the police. Unfortunately, I cannot rely on them and I should be able to protect myself from crime. |

The Oklahoma Second Amendment Association created a bit of a brouhaha recently when it sued the city of Norman over a gun ban at Norman's annual music festival. Not surprisingly, the judge issued a restraining order against the city. What was surprising were reactions on social media to the lawsuit and the realization that people might be carrying guns at the festival. A segment of our population seems to be unaware that guns are now commonplace in Oklahoma. |

A South Carolina pastor disarmed the honest men and women in his congregation.
That guaranteed a crazy person would be unopposed when, someday, a crazy person brought a gun to church. That sobering situation came true in Charleston, South Carolina last week. Innocent people died.
I want all of us to learn from this tragedy so it never happens again. I believe that the world is a better place when honorable men and women are armed.

James Holcomb is a loud, proud gay activist who wished to participate in the 25th Capital City Pride Festival in Olympia, WA. One problem Holcomb is also an equally proud libertarian who likes the Second Amendment. According to the organizers of the event, this fact made Holcomb an agenda-pushing troublemaker. When he simply called up the organizers and asked if open carry would be allowed as part of participation, Holcomb was surprised at the response he got at his Libertarian Party of Washington office: a nasty voicemail from Capital City Pride Chairwoman Anna Schlecht accusing Holcomb of foul intentions:
