Republican New York Congressman John Katko, appearing over the weekend on Fox News with former Congressman Trey Gowdy, suggested the main reason behind crime spikes in major U.S. cities such as New York City is the effort to defund police departments.
Katko said the problem in the Big Apple is, Number one, they defunded the police department in New York City by one-sixth, cutting one billion dollars from a police department that is charged with protecting the number one terrorist target in the world, New York City. |

With shootings surging in many places across the country, at least 10 states this year have enacted so-called "Second Amendment sanctuary" laws. They vary state-by-state but most are meant to pre-empt tighter gun control measures that could come from the Biden Administration. Missouri Gov. Mike Parson, a Republican, signed his state's version earlier this month at a gun shop outside of Kansas City, echoing a claim that made the rounds on conservative social media. |

The New Hampshire House of Representatives has tabled a bill that sought to exclude the state from tougher gun control laws enacted by the Biden administration. Senate Bill 154, which was approved by the Senate in April, would prohibit the state from enforcing any presidential executive order "restricting, limiting, encumbering, regulating, or placing conditions upon the right of the people to keep and bear arms." |

I look forward to every issue of GUNS Magazine and I especially enjoyed reading Montana Musings by Mike Duke Venturino in January about the Sharps rifles and in June about the big fifties. This leads to my question. I inherited a Sharps rifle when my brother passed away several years ago. He was a serious military and Civil War collector. In 2008, he had a replica rifle made by the Shiloh Rifle Company, which is described as an 1874 military rifle. It is in .50-70 Govt. caliber and has a military musket pattern with some embellishments. Is this rifle an accurate replica of rifles actually used by the U.S. Army or any other military?

I have often said the best part of my job of being a gun writer for nearly 55 years is not all the guns I get to test but the many interesting people I meet. Growing up I read of legends I did not realize, couldnt even imagine, I would someday know. Five of these men were colonels Rex Applegate, Charles Askins, Jeff Cooper, Bill Jordan and Walter Walsh. However, the beginning of my knowledge of these men goes back to the early 1950s when I was still a very young teenager.

Not even the shooting world was spared from the debate between using inches or centimeters. If anything, its actually more confusing, with various gun sights and optics bouncing between the two. MOA will take you down the inches route. Mils, also known as MRADs, are going to lean you in the direction of the metric system. Both are common. So what should you pick when choosing the best for your scope?

John Wayne is an American Hollywood icon every bit the equal of James Dean or Marilyn Monroe. He is also a man from another era, a man whose conservatism came as naturally as walking down the street. Affectionately known as The Duke, he spent three decades as a top box office draw with 179 film and television credits to his name. |

I cant help it. My mindset has already shifted toward hunting, despite only being a week removed from the summer solstice, the July 4 holiday not here yet and there being nearly a full three months of the season remaining. It happens every year about this time. I know it shouldnt but it does, and like the dinner bell for Pavlovs dog, the signs that trigger thoughts of fall are everywhere.
