This is a first in Oklahoma, where we proudly defend Second Amendment rights. But Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, an organization dedicated to the idea that Second Amendment rights and common-sense gun laws are not mutually exclusive, fought to hold lawmakers accountable for their votes that might have jeopardized public safety. And we won. Similar bills will be back next session, though, and we need more voices to join the fight if we are to continue convincing our lawmakers that respect for gun rights doesn't have to come at the expense of public safety. We hope you'll join us. |

"If this premeditated shooting at UCLA calls any policies or laws into question, it is the policies and laws denying law-abiding professors the means to defend themselves where they're most vulnerable," Students for Concealed Carry said in a statement it shared with The Christian Science Monitor. Licensed adults should have "the same measure of personal protection on campus that they're allowed virtually everywhere else," it said.

On Thursday, he clarified his statement, saying that we likely wont see those armed insurgencies thanks to legislation that has been passed in states across the country to restrict people from voting.
I didnt say that would happen, but I would say thats why we have a Second Amendment, he told ThinkProgress about the use of violence. If elections are compromised, that could happen. I dont think were at that point. We havent lost that much control, I dont think, of the electoral process. We have actually been making some progress in recent months with voter ID and that hopefully is going to cut down on some of the voter fraud that could potentially occur. |

The low number of revocations isnt a surprise because the applicants had to meet criteria to get the permit in the first place, some experts said.
"Revocations are relatively rare largely because the permit-holder population was already pre-selected to be relatively law-abiding by virtue of the requirement that applicants pass a background check to get a permit in the first place," said Gary Kleck, a criminologist at Florida State University.

Now New York Times op-ed writer Alan Berlow is being accused of distorting the words of yet another pro-gun voice in order to fabricate support for an intrusive and largely obsolete federal gun law.
According to yet another Second Amendment activist, a writer for the New York Times op-ed page distorted the words of the gun rights activist to make him appear as though he favors national gun registration. |

NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris Cox claims the media is hiding facts in its reporting of Judge Merrick Garlands Supreme Court nomination by obscuring his anti-gun rulings as procedural instead of ideological.
Cox, wiring in the June issue of NRA Americas 1st Freedom journal published May 24, said the skewed reporting is not an accident or bad journalism, but an attempt to confuse people regarding (Garlands) view of the Second Amendment. |

What I have said is precisely what you suggested, which is, why dont we treat this like every other thing that we use? I just came from a meeting today in the Situation Room in which I got people who we know have been on ISIL Web sites, living here in the United States, U.S. citizens, and were allowed to put them on the no-fly list when it comes to airlines, but because of the National Rifle Association, I cannot prohibit those people from buying a gun.
Ed.: Because neither going to a website nor sympathizing with ISIS are crimes; it is protected first amendment activity. If you have evidence of actual treason, Mr. President, then arrest, charge, and convict them. Then you can stop them from buying guns. |

There are, however, several lower-tech ways to make guns safer, methods that have been available for decades. These options do not go so far as to render a firearm inoperable if it falls into the wrong hands, but they have proven effective at helping prevent accidental discharges, which claimed 586 lives in 2014, the most recent year for which Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data is available.
Though the safety features listed below are well known, they have not been universally adopted by gun makers. Thats because no federal agency oversees how firearms are designed or built, even though federal safety regulations are standard for other consumer products like cars or over-the-counter medication bottles.

A major gun control group has endorsed Hillary Clinton, offering a lift to her campaign in a tighter-than-expected primary race in California and as she tries to pivot to a general election matchup with Donald J. Trump.
The group, Everytown for Gun Safety, announced its endorsement through a statement released early on Friday, the day after its National Gun Violence Awareness Day campaign. |

The latest round of gun-control bills speeding through the California legislature should offer a reality check to those of us who own firearms: Democratic leaders will never be satisfied closing the latest round of "loopholes." Every year they push new rounds of "reasonable and common sense" gun laws, few of which seem reasonable given they target law-abiding owners. To many legislators, the Second Amendment is the real loophole. |

Everytown for Gun Safety, which claims to be the nation's largest gun violence group, announced Friday it's supporting Hillary Clinton.
"Our litmus test is simple: does a candidate side with the public or with the gun lobby?" John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety, said in a statement. "Hillary Clinton passes that test with flying colors - pushing back against the NRA's extreme 'guns for everyone, everywhere' agenda, and ushering in a new political calculus that saving lives from gun violence is a winning issue." |

Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood, along with other local law enforcement leaders, voiced his concerns over a pending gun control ballot initiative Thursday morning.
The sheriff disagrees with the ideas behind the Safety for All initiative sponsored by Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom.
The initiative is awaiting qualification for the November ballot.
If passed, the state would regulate the sales of ammunition.
Under the measure, all buyers of ammunition would have to undergo a background check, there will also be a ban on the possession of magazines that hold 10 or more rounds of ammo. |

Hunting and fishing should be protected, Curtis, whose district includes Lincoln County, said. I am definitely in support of this amendment and letting the people decide. This would be a way to protect Second Amendment rights moving forward. This is the idea behind having this referendum.
The amendment reads that the right to hunt and fish shall not be infringed, subject to laws and regulations to promote wildlife conservation and management, to maintain natural resources in trust for public use and to preserve the future of hunting and fishing, according to the text of the bill. |

I recently spent time with a number of influential women at the nations largest gathering of gun owners. This years National Rifle Associations Annual Meetings boasted the second highest number of attendees in the history of the show. This is in part due to the presidential campaign and other ballot issues we face this year.
In the U.S., after several years with an anti-gun leader, women have stepped up. They want to protect themselves and their families, as well as enjoy shooting sports, and are purchasing more firearms than ever.

James said he understood Soechtig's impulse to "let the audience think about Katie Couric's question. But the choice to manufacture an eight-second pause appears to have misrepresented not just the facts of what happened, but the truth of it, too. And listening to the audio of what actually transpired strikes me as more revealing than what is in the film. One person at the table lamely tries to defend the rights for anyone to have a gun, while the others use solipsistic arguments to speak about how existing laws are sufficient, which clearly they are not. |
