A 15-year-old girl who fought back and stabbed a man who was sexually assaulting her has been absolved of homicide.

Justice officials in Mexico City deemed it was a case of legitimate self-defense.

It was determined that the victim is free of all responsibility because she acted in legitimate self-defense and her bodily integrity and life were at risk, the Mexico City Attorney Generals office (PGJDF) said yesterday.

New laws go into effect in Kentucky this week including one allowing charter schools. Another is aimed at cracking down on drug trafficking and the so-called "Blue Lives Matter" law makes it a crime to attack a first responder.

The Kentucky General Assembly ended its regular session on March 30, 2017. And new laws take effect 90 days after lawmakers adjourn.

In a more guns bill that alarmed even pro-gun-rights activists, representative Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) has proposed arming federal legislators to the exclusion of regular citizens. An existing bill, HR 38, to make the firearm-carry permits of normal American citizens valid nationally, has languished in Congress since the election of Donald Trump.

Barely two weeks after a progressive Democrat activist attempted a mass assassination of Republican officials, progressives are outraged at the NRA for noting that the Second Amendment gives people the right to defend themselves, with arms if necessary, from people who might try to assassinate them or their families.

You might not remember it because the news media pivoted away from the story as quickly as possible, but just two weeks ago an anti-Trump Bernie Bro tried to assassinate a bunch of elected Republican officials while they practiced for the annual bipartisan Congressional baseball game.

The case challenged the state's right to impose limits on people openly carrying guns in public. Since 2010, the high court hasn't heard a Second Amendment case frustrating both sides of the debate.

You believe in the Second Amendment with all of your heart. You think your technicians should have the right to protect themselves. Allowing techs to carry on the clock or in company vehicles is still a bad idea.

Ed.: Wrong conclusion, but the concerns are legitimate and need to be mitigated.

Although Javondlynn M. Dunagan teaches firearms and self-defense courses on the South Side, she admits she used to be afraid of guns.

The Grand Crossing native worked as a federal probation officer for 25 years, but she said she never had to carry a gun and she didn't want to.

I used to look at a gun and think it was just going to jump off the table, Dunagan said.

But she had to overcome that fear when she got divorced from her husband, who was a police officer.

Now, theyve really done it. Floridas gun-happy, National Rifle Association-controlled Legislature has turned an already dangerous, unpopular law into an unmitigated disaster.

Its nothing short of legislative malpractice. Floridas infamous stand your ground law with a long-running, well-documented history of flagrant misuse has now been elevated into a virtual license to kill.

Already weighted heavily in favor of trigger-happy shooters (freed of any duty to retreat), new changes to the law will not only increase shootings but discourage legitimate prosecutions.

Variety panned the film War for the Planet of the Apes, out July 14, as being anti-human, by saying it reduces the human characters to crass two-dimensional stereotypes and by detailing how this film gives up the pretense of a plot for special effects (mostly this means we get to see profound emotions expressed on the apes faces). This movie gets something else wrong that Variety isnt likely to pick up on but that millions of gun owners will.

A Washington store owner who fatally shot an unarmed and fleeing shoplifter last March was sentenced in court Friday to spend eight years in prison.

Min Kim, 31, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder earlier this year. He initially faced up to life in prison, but prosecutors asked for 10 years, while Kims attorney asked for two years, according to reports from local media.

Kim said he fired in self-defense when the suspect, Jakeel Rashon Mason, 21, reached for his gun during the incident inside the Spanaway store on March 25, 2016. A struggle ensued after Kim caught Mason trying to steal from the store. But during his sentencing, Kim acknowledged that his actions were wrong.

In the four decades that the modern, militant gun rights movement has been around, one of its most significant victories occurred not at the ballot box, on a presidents special signing desk, or in the courtroom. Rather, one of the biggest battles pro-gun partisans have ever won took place in the minds of millions of Americans.

Since the late 1970s, the National Rifle Association and other firearm advocates have successfully fought to make armed self defense increasingly acceptable in everyday life.

Now, one year later, the City of Miami has successfully used the same defense in civil court, and the circumstances are just as controversial as the McBean case. Two Miami cops will now be immune from paying damages for battery because a judge ruled they had just cause to defend themselves from two men one of whom was disabled and in a wheelchair.

On June 14, Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Norma Lindsey found that Miami Police Sgt. Moses Martinez and Officer Walter Byars "reasonably feared" for their safety when they used force against Pedro Brito and his wheelchair-bound brother, Carlos, in a June 2010 altercation.

According to PEW Research, even 35% of non-gun owners believe a right to gun ownership is essential to freedom.

A pregnant woman is facing charges after police say she shot her 22-year-old boyfriend in a YouTube stunt gone wrong.

Pedro Ruiz apparently gave 19-year-old Monalisa Perez a handgun and told her to shoot into a book he was holding in front of his chest. The couple had apparently tested the stunt before attempting it on video. But the book didn't stop the bullet.

Ruiz died at the scene in Minnesota.

Target the U.S. Constitution

We offer these amendments to show the lack of logic regarding the decision this week by the U.S. Supreme Court not to consider a challenge to a law in California which restricts the constitutional rights of Americans to carry a gun. California has what it called a good cause law, which means California residents must convince the state they have a valid reason to carry a concealed weapon.

Here is the problem, which is clearly evident when reading the Second Amendment and the Tenth Amendment. The right to keep and bear arms is a constitutional right. In other words, it is not a right that is left up to individual states to recognize as they see fit.

U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson (R-N.C) bashed Manhattan District Attorney, Cyrus Vance for stating on WNYM-AM Sunday, that the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act is supported by ISIS.

This bill is supported, Im sure, by ISIS, New York County District Attorney Cyrus Vance said. ISIS points its readers to America and how they can easily obtain guns by going to states where there are no permitting requirements.

U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson (R-N.C.) was quick to shut-down the alleged criticism from Vances end. Hudson stated in an op-ed by the Hill that Vance needs to educate himself before making such disparaging and false statements.

Thursday's Sentinel article about the Seminole County tax collector allowing employees to carry guns in the open should be an alarming wake-up call to citizens everywhere.

Do we really want to grant our government the ability to seize our private property at the point of a gun? Granted, the tax collector already has broad authority to seize property and our bank accounts to settle tax bills. But this new policy is further evidence that our government at every level is often more focused on sustaining and growing its bureaucracy rather than truly serving its constituent taxpayers. And it will go to nearly any length to accomplish it.

Ed.: Everything government does is done at the point of a gun.

Czech lawmakers have passed legislation in the lower parliament that would see the right to bear firearms enshrined in the countrys constitution in a move directed against tighter regulations from the European Union.

The legislation was passed with 139 deputies agreeing to the amendment to the constitution with only nine deputies voting against. The amendment will now be considered by the Czech Senate where it will require a supermajority of three-fifths of the members in order to pass into law, Die Presse reports.

Well, the Supreme Court refused to hear the Peruta case on Monday.

Okay, now what?

Im hearing a ton of gloom and doom from many in the pro-rights community and frankly, Im kind of disappointed. Like everyone else, Ive had time to ponder the decision not to take the case. Am I disappointed that the court decided not to hear Peruta? Of course I am, but Im not pulling my hair out. I am of the opinion that a better case exists.

Yes, like you Im anxious for this to be resolved. I want it done. Its high time the court ruled on the splits in the circuits but Im also aware that they eventually will. But when?

Supreme Court Justices Call Second Amendment Case Distressing

I'm Eben Brown.

Second Amendment advocates are a bit upset the U.S. Supreme Court didn't take up the case of a California man suing over a denial of a concealed carry permit. In Peruta v. California, the sheriff in San Diego says he can refuse to issue concealed carry permits if the applicant doesn't show a real need for one. Justices Thomas and Gorsuch published a dissent to the court's rejection, calling it 'distressing.'

Meanwhile, in Kansas, it'll be legal to carry without a permit on college campus' starting this Saturday.

Ed.: Not sure about the KS bit. Double-check on that before you carry on campus.
