"One does not know if 'Jerry Gregorys' comment is merely rhetorical or if hes serious, and if he actually has the motive, means and opportunity to carry out his stated intent. When a stranger threatens to shoot you, its probably not a good idea to automatically write it off as being frivolous, especially since its pretty obvious this guy is not in a joking mood and since thats the kind of crazy talk dangerous loons might actually engage in. The person who made that comment sounds genuinely unhinged. Plus, if you need to end up defending yourself, it would help to have a record of a police report, just as legal protection in case the force needed to stop an attacker leads to his justifiable injury or death." |

A former Clay Township police officer will serve a year and a half of probation and pay more than $16,000 in restitution for unlawfully granting pistol safety training certificates to 27 people.
Cierpial pleaded guilty to the charge April 28, the same day he resigned from the Clay Township Police Department.
In a December preliminary examination, witnesses testified they received concealed pistol license training certificates in March 2013 without receiving required firing-range instruction.
As a law enforcement officer, your actions have reflected upon other law enforcement officers in the community, the judge said. |

Round Rock police officers shot and killed a family dog after homes alarm system was activated. Hope Lane tells KVUE-TV that her granddaughter forgot to shut the front door all the way after leaving for school, causing it to blow open, tripping the alarm. Two officers arrived to Lanes home Friday, entering the house and shouting verbal warnings. Round Rock authorities say when they came upon the 120-pound Rottweiler named Bullet, the dog became aggressive toward them and made threatening actions. Thats when, according to KVUE, the officers shot Bullet a total of seven times. The dog was taken away by police by the time Lane got back to her house. |

Two Edison police officers were slapped with reprimands for speaking at a town council meeting last month about low overnight staffing levels. Patrolmen Jeff Diakunczak and Dan Boslet received oral reprimands and "buck slips," or minor disciplinary notes, after they criticized a decision by the police department's leaders to reduce minimum manpower levels. The policy change means that during a four-hour window in the early hours, the department could have as few as six officers policing the 32-square-mile town, down from eight. That endangers public safety, the officers argued.
SUBMITTER'S COMMENT: I would argue that news reports show that the cut improves public safety. |

Chris Cox, NRAs chief lobbyist, was interviewed on an NRA show Tuesday night.
Posting the criticism "was a mistake," he said. "It shouldnt have happened. Ive had a discussion with the staffer who wrote that piece and expressed his personal opinion. Our job is not to criticize the lawful behavior of fellow gun owners. Our job is to effectuate policy changes that expands and protects our members right to self-defense." |

Cox went on to describe the NRA's official policy: "The National Rifle Association unapologetically and unflinchingly supports the right of self-defense and what that means is that our members and our supporters have a right to carry a firearm in any place they have a legal right to be. If that means open carry, we support open carry. If it means concealed carry, it means concealed carry. So unequivocally we support open carry, we've been the leader of open carry efforts across this country, the leader in opposing efforts to curtail the ability to carry firearms, and that's something we're proud of and we do every day for our members." |

Tonight I learned that the Target Corporation has been dragging its feet in responding to the "open carry" activists that have used Target stores as part of their public arena in their sickeningly brutish displays of slinging long arm weaponry openly as a means of asserting their Second Amendment rights. The Open Carry Texas group, itself, refers to Target Corporation as "very 2A friendly," suggesting the stores are welcoming of their antics. |

Cook Countys attitude is that if you want your rights, sue us for them. Well, there are other ways we have to redress our grievances! Cook County is seeking statutory authority to reduce their pension responsibilities.
If they do not get that authority from the State of Illinois their budget will be severely impacted. Too bad!
Call your State Representative and State Senator and tell them to OPPOSE the Cook County pension deal until they leave our Second Amendment Rights alone. |

Banning guns works, which is why New York, DC, and Chicago have such low crime rates and the cops there need guns.
Washington DCs murder rate of 69 per 100,000 is due to the strict gun control laws they have passed. Indianapolis murder rate of 9 per 100,000 is due to the lack of gun control laws they have passed.
The statistics that show high murder rates justify gun control, but statistics that show increasing murder rates after gun control are just statistics.
The Brady Bill and The Assault Weapons Ban both went into effect in 1994. They are the reason for the decrease in violent crime rates that have been on the decline since 1991. |

Set your sights on this. A new gun range has open it's doors in Quincy.
"Well it kind of started with the conceal and carry class and found out there really isn't any place for people in Quincy to shoot. If you own land you got a place to shoot but if you don't there isn't any place close for people to shoot," Mark Dempsey, owner of RKBA Gun Range, said.
Conceal and carry class sizes have grown since the law went into effect January 1, 2014. |

On the subject of public safety President Obama once said, No law or set of laws can keep our children completely safe. But if theres even one thing we can do, if theres just one life we can save, weve got an obligation to try.
Its with this philosophy in mind that Im encouraging lawmakers at the federal level to adopt legislation that would expand bans on certain knives, mandate universal background checks on all knife purchases and/or transfers and create a nationwide registry of knife owners.

Cody Wilson, 26, founded Defense Distributed in 2012 for the explicit purpose of demonstrating how 3D printers can produce working plastic handguns as well as replacement parts for existing rifles.
Wilson, a former student of the University of Texas School of Law, posted the plans for his Liberator gun online for anyone to download. Although the US government forced him to remove the plans last year, the Genie was already out of the bottle. The CAD drawings had been downloaded tens of thousands of times. |

Yesterdays latest kickoff of the Initiative 594 campaign in Seattle reportedly brought in a $1 million pledge from Nick and Leslie Hanauer prime bank-rollers of the gun control effort so far along with what the Seattle P-I.com reported was a six-figure pledge from an anonymous donor, and that is troubling to gun rights activists.
When an issue threatens to erode what they consider are not only firearms rights but privacy rights, six-figure pledges to that campaign should not be anonymous. Its an age-old principle held dear by the press: The public has a right to know. |

When "open carry" groups take their message to parking lots and sidewalks, they say they're fighting for gun rights.
What they didn't expect is to have to defend themselves from "friendly fire."
"You grow up to revere the NRA, almost like its a grandfather," said Tov Henderson of Open Carry Texas. "Theyre the vanguards of the the Second Amendment."
All it took to set off this firestorm was a web article by the NRA-ILA, the lobbying arm of the National Rifle Association. A staffer described, in a May 30 opinion piece, the walks with rifles out in the open as downright scary and "downright weird." |

Beginning in 2007, California officials began accumulating names from court records, medical facilities and lists of known or wanted criminals, and then cross-referenced them against the federal background check system for gun-buyers. The list is updated every day.
The Armed and Prohibited Persons Program, known as APP, was originally billed as going after dangerous people, but for the most part, with some exceptions, lately has not been aimed at the dangerous of society.
California is the only state to use a program like APP, which cross references five databases to find people who have legally purchased handguns, shotguns, and rifles with people banned from owning or possessing firearms. |
