Shootings, stabbings and beatings don't sound like diseases, but violence behaves very much in the same way as an untreated illness. For example, untreated diabetes leads to blindness, amputated limbs, kidney disease and a host of problems, and untreated violence leads to recurrent violence and retaliation. Detroit's Sinai-Grace Hospital on Outer Drive is changing its approach to violence with a program it hopes will cure the disease.
The program is called Detroit Life is Valuable Everyday, or DLIVE, and it was launched in April 2016. The program's goal is simple in concept, to treat violent trauma as a recurring chronic disease. |

Furnished with geologic timelessness and wisdom, the gravity harnessing words of Mencius, the 1-B ethereal disciple to the original founding principles of Confucianism, are still relevant within the modern universe after surviving the cyclic and cruel cleansing processes of the universe and the development of civilization. Quietly muttered on the humid ancient plains of the Zou state (now part of the Shandong province of temperamental Chinese communist goodness), the telling phrase from the decorated sage still resonates with some authority today, and yet those who should be the target of the life lesson are insufferably oblivious to the soul encapsulating premise to a sensible practice. Sports and politics do not mix. |

The Virginia Beach massacre again raises the question of why the United States cant do more to combat mass murderers wielding guns. It can but only by amending the Second Amendment. Gun-control advocates often appear to bemoan the Second Amendments very existence. They note how different guns were in the late 18th century, when it took nearly a minute to load rifles with a single bullet. They observe that the amendment itself points to the need for a well-regulated militia, suggesting that the right to own and use guns is subordinate to the need for collective self-defense. |

While departing the White House for his U.K. visit, President Trump was asked about firearm suppressors and responded, I dont like them at all." Trumps comments came after a reporter brought up the Virginia Beach shooter, who had a suppressor on one of his handguns. The Daily Beast quoted the reporter, who asked Trump, The suspect in the Virginia Beach shooting used a silencer on his weapon. Do you believe that silencers should be restricted? |

Hunters interested in trying their luck at white-tailed deer in popular public deer-hunting areas in the state listen up. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission opened its annual WMA deer permit hunt application period Monday. AGFC wildlife management offers excellent hunting opportunities, but popular hunting areas can become overcrowded without special restrictions. In many of the most popular areas, AGFC conducts special draw hunts to maintain healthy deer herds. |

Days after officials touted a slight decrease in crime, Chicago saw its most violent weekend of the year, with 52 people reportedly shot -- including 10 fatally. The violent spree occurred just days after authorities highlighted a nine percent drop in crime compared to the first five months of 2018.
Submitter's note: How are all those restrictions on firearm ownership working? Maybe not so well. |

Two months after Gov. Jared Polis signed the Red Flag gun bill into law, another community is poised to declare itself a Second Amendment Sanctuary. More than half of Colorados counties have adopted similar resolutions since April, some refusing to enforce the law that takes effect in January. But most of those counties are in rural parts of the state that are Republican strongholds. Commerce City is the first community in the Denver metro area to consider Second Amendment sanctuary status. |

A group of conservatives said Sunday that theyre preparing to launch a petition to recall Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak, contending that the new Democratic governor and Democratically-controlled Legislature are passing or debating liberal legislation that infringes on freedoms, including gun rights. The group, called Fight for Nevada, held a rally at a park in Carson City in Sunday as lawmakers were winding down their legislative session about a mile away.

Allyson Condra has been around guns all of her life. She has taught classes on gun safety and has all the background and education needed to be a responsible owner of firearms. But nothing could have prepared her for a confrontation she had several years ago while checking on her uncle's home in Louisville. When she pulled into the driveway of the home, which she said was in what is considered a safe neighborhood, she noticed the front door had been damaged. She called her dad, who told her to wait for him or police to arrive, and reminded her that her uncle had a .45-caliber pistol inside the home. She decided to open the door to see if the home had been broken into.

On 29 May 2019, H.B. 1177 was sent to Governor Abbott. The bill will make Constitutional Carry legal in Texas, during evacuations when a state of disaster is declared and for 168 hours (one week) after the state of disaster declaration. The law is another incremental step moving toward Constitutional Carry in Texas. It makes perfect sense when taken in the context of the Second Amendment.

Jefferson Countys efforts to control gun ranges has spawned new legal action, a report of critical areas violations and a Growth Management Hearings Board petition. Fort Discovery Inc. filed a brief in the state Court of Appeals in May that questions the validity of Jefferson Countys Commercial Shooting Facilities ordinance and the Washington State Constitution in light of the Second Amendment of the U.S. Bill of Rights.

After the Virginia Beach shooting, the New York Times reran an essay on gun control by Nicholas Kristof, which contains this paragraph:
It is true that guns are occasionally used to stop violence. But contrary to what the National Rifle Association suggests, this is rare. One study by the Violence Policy Center found that in 2012 there were 259 justifiable homicides by a private citizen using a firearm.

Many of us have heard in hunting circles that the number of hunters now, relative to the 70s and 80s, is down quite a bit. Maybe its because we are a more wired or techy society and fewer of the upcoming generation are willing to venture into the outdoors. No one is sure of the reason, but its peculiar that hunting license sales are going up at the same time. Seems like an oxymoron, right? Well, there is an explanation for all of this. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is tasked with documenting license sales across the United States. |
