To determine the states with the best and worst gun laws, 24/7 Wall St. reviewed the 2020 Annual Gun Law Scorecard from the Giffords Law Center (led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, herself a gun violence victim), which ranks states on the strength of gun laws and policy and assigns a letter grade. Giffords Law Center attorneys assign point values based on strength and weaknesses of state laws and policies and compare these values to gun death rates released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The term generally, in the information for some states, means in the majority of cases, with some exceptions. |

Last October, Armen filed an application with the town of Lincolnville for permission to open a 350-square-foot gun store to be named Guns and Roses, inside an existing farm building he owns. The gun store would sell high-end weapons by appointment only.
In the months since, the proposal has generated opposition from several vocal opponents in town who have so far been successful in delaying approval of the project due to process matters for nearly half a year.
The date for a final review of the plan, where the Lincolnville Planning Board will likely vote to approve the project, has not yet been determined, but could happen next week. Based on the past meetings, whenever that vote comes, it will be contentious. |

In a 2-1 split opinion, a majority state appellate panel has reversed a lower-court dismissal and allowed to proceed a Second Amendment-based lawsuit lodged by a Stroud Township landowner who argued that a town ordinance stopping him from operating a shooting range was unconstitutional.
The ordinance imposes a burden on the Second Amendment right to maintain proficiency in firearm use by essentially imposing an outright ban on target shooting everywhere in the township except two specific zoning districts, the Commonwealth Court majority, made up of Judges Mary Hannah Leavitt and Kevin Brobson, said in a 26-page opinion penned by Brobson. |

Already some of the toughest in the nation, New Yorks gun laws may soon get even stronger.
Democrats in the state Senate passed a package of gun control bills Wednesday, and according to the web site Politico, it includes a first-in-the-nation attempt to reopen firearms manufacturers to liability for some deaths caused by their products.
Other provisions would expand the waiting period between purchase and possession of a gun to 10 days.
New Yorkers Against Gun Violence Executive Director Rebecca Fischer applauds the new legislation. |

Every law-abiding gun owner in West Virginia should be concerned with David Chipmans nomination to lead the ATF. His prior work for gun control activist groups, extreme policy positions supporting a gun registry and bans on sporting rifles, and his commitment to over-policing lawful gun owners make it clear protecting our Second Amendment rights will be relatively low on his priority list. Responsible gun ownership is part of our heritage here in West Virginia and it should not be threatened. It is clear that if David Chipman was confirmed, he would do everything in his power to threaten the rights of law-abiding gun owners in West Virginia and across our country. |

Last year saw more than 21 million background checks conducted for the purchase of a firearm, a record-shattering number, and at the current rate 2021 is on, that number looks like it could be broken again.
With more than 1.3 million background checks conducted for firearms purchases through the FBIs National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) in May, according to new data from the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the current number of checks for the year sits beyond 8.5 million. At this same point last year, that number was just north of 8.1 million. |

A North Idaho music festival can continue to ban guns on leased city land after a judge ruled in favor of the city of Sandpoint, the second time the city has beaten back a similar challenge.
The Idaho Second Amendment Alliance, a gun rights group, filed the lawsuit, claiming Sandpoint broke state law by allowing The Festival At Sandpoint to ban guns. The concert series takes place annually on land leased from the city.
Idaho law does prevent cities and counties from banning guns on public lands. But attorneys for Sandpoint successfully argued that events leasing city land can enforce their own rules. |

Do African Americans have Second Amendment rights? Thats the question Emory University professor Carol Anderson set out to answer in her new book, The Second, which looks at the constitutional right to bear arms and its uneven application throughout U.S. history. She says she was prompted to write the book after the 2016 police killing of Philando Castile, who was fatally shot during a traffic stop after he told the officer he had a legal firearm. Anderson says the Second Amendment was always intended to be a means of arming white people to control the Black population. |

If Weber's petition for a writ of certiorari with the U.S. Supreme Court is granted, those calling for SCOTUS to provide clarity may get their wish. Weber is asking the court to determine the proper standard of constitutional review of a law that impacts the core value of the Second Amendment.
"The disagreement in the Ohio Supreme Court is emblematic of the confusion gripping the nation's lower courts," he wrote. "But confusion is not the only problem. The outcome of a wrongfully applied standard can significantly dilute the core protection of the Second Amendment." |

Testifying in his own defense proved to be a good move for a South Beach resident accused of beating another man with a baseball bat during a confrontation at his home two years ago.
On Wednesday, a jury in state Supreme Court, St. George, acquitted John DiDamo, 47, of all charges stemming from the May 27, 2019 incident.
I successfully argued that Mr. DiDamo acted in self-defense, because during the dispute the complainant threatened to shoot my client, said defense lawyer Mark J. Fonte. The complainant went to the vehicle he arrived in to retrieve something from it. My client assumed it was a gun. |

The Brady campaign concludes that resolutions declaring Second Amendment Sanctuaries within counties and cities are purely symbolic and have no legal weight. And in Texas, the author of House Bill 2622, which may be cited as the Second Amendment Sanctuary State Act, told the El Paso Times in April that his Bill would not prevent federal agents coming into Texas to enforce new gun lawsbut that they would get no help from the local authorities. The Bill was sent to Governor Abbotts desk before the Memorial Day weekend. |

After spending decades assailing the Second Amendment rights of American citizens, cultural Marxists believe theyve finally found the perfect line of attack against the constitutional right to keep and bear arms: racism.
Just like every other aspect of the American Founding, the ratification of the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is rooted in nothing more than white supremacy. Or at least, thats what scholar Carol Anderson wants you to believe. |

The general assumption by many is that +P self defense handgun ammo is more deadly or lethal and that it will make bad guys collapse like the life has been sucked out of them. The +P designation for ammunition has absolutely nothing to do with the potential for the ammunition to be more effective at stopping bad guys. The +P designation only means that the ammunition is loaded to a higher pressure. |
