Yes, lets have the national debate on gun laws, but rushing to judgment after these mass shootings to ban self-defense ownership of guns by responsible adults is not the answer.
Case in point: A woman who was carrying a firearm lawfullly at a party in Charleston, West Virginia, shot and killed a man who came with an AR-15-type rifle and opened fire on the guests. The attacker had a felony record and legally could not possess a firearm. News flash: Criminals dont obey the laws, including gun laws. |

Officers responded to the call, and while at the encampment, the suspect sped passed them in the stolen vehicle toward the parking lot that Harris was in. According to Harris, the suspect was driving toward him at a high rate of speed. Fearing for his life, he drew his concealed carry gun, which he had a Washington concealed carry permit for, and shot at the suspect, who then drove into an eco block, a large cement block that prevents people from parking in the area. The suspect threw it into reverse, sped toward the officers, and then fled through a fence and a bike trail. |

At the rally, Governor Steve Sisolak, (D) Nevada, said he's prepared to go further than those requests in the coming legislative session.
"We can't end the gun violence problem by having more guns," Sisolak said.
When asked if gun bans were on the table, he said "Everything is on the table as far as I'm concerned."
Sisolak said Nevada lawmakers have passed several gun safety laws under his stewardship, including a red flag law, but he wanted to go further saying there is no reason people should own assault weapons. |

Arming teachers is not a new concept, yet with recent events like the mass shooting at a Texas elementary school, many are now seriously considering the idea.
Ohio is just one of two states looking to pass the bill, and Gov. Mike DeWine said he would sign it into law.
House Bill 99 is gathering mixed reviews from local families.
I think teachers need to protect themselves, said local mother Alesha Comer.
Comer is not alone, as a local father also shares similar sentiments. |

I do believe in guns and shotguns to be used in hunting and self-defense. I dont believe in using semi-automatic rifles to shoot animals for food. Not very sportsmanlike. These kinds of guns are used to kill people in war situations. Were not at war in this country at this moment.
Another thought: I dont believe any 18-year-old is old enough or mature enough to be able to buy a semi-automatic weapon. I also believe that there should be background checks for anyone trying to buy a gun. They should not be so readily available to just anyone. |

In short, the militia at the time included all males physically capable of acting for the common defense, and was decidedly not a standing military. In fact, the Antifederalists at the time of the American Founding wanted the Second Amendment in place because they feared that the government would disarm the people and allow a standing army or select government-run militia to displace an armed populace. The citizen militia identified in the Second Amendment is meant to ensure that the people, and not government forces alone, are armed. |

The Bellevue-based Second Amendment Foundation on Friday filed a federal lawsuit against Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson and several other officials challenging the states ban on large-capacity magazines for handguns and rifles.
Senate Bill 5078 prohibits the sale of gun magazines with a capacity of more than 10 rounds, along with the manufacturing, distribution, or import of such magazines in Washington.
Passed by the state Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Jay Inslee earlier this year, SB 5078 is set to go into effect on July 1. |

Sales have spiked at some gun stores in Georgia a backlash to efforts to write stricter gun laws.
"The way this president is driving this country, everybody need to be carrying at this point," Carl Brecker, a Powder Springs gun owner who'd just completed a purchase at Adventure Outdoors in Smyrna, said.
At the firearms superstore, sales are up 30% since last week. Assault rifle sales have tripled, Eric Wallace, a manager at the store, said. "Especially first thing this morning, folks were waiting at the door to purchase AR-15s," Wallace said Friday.

Recent mass shootings across the country are raising concerns for gun owners as the Biden administration works to change gun laws, like raising the age from 18 to 21 to purchase a semi-automatic firearm.
Brandon Tietjen, owner of Triple T Guns in Wilmington, says something like a ban on assault rifles could hurt his business.
We might have product that quite possibly is unlawful to sell, or will require additional paperwork or, you know, additional services or costs incurred to the customer to actually be able to purchase those weapons, Tietjen said. |

They said a .22-caliber bullet will lodge in the lung, and we can probably get it out maybe able to get it and save the life, Biden said during a press conference. A 9mm bullet blows the lung out of the body.
Dave Workman, senior editor at the Second Amendment Foundation, pushed back on Bidens comments about firearms in wake of a reignited, nationwide diatribe over gun control.
Joe Biden may have a shotgun to gather dust in his closet someplace. But he doesnt know anything about firearms, Workman said on the Jason Rantz Show on KTTH. He certainly has no knowledge at all about ballistics and any of that stuff. |

The president, as he almost always does, began with this strawman. The Second Amendment, Biden claimed, like all other rights, is not absolute. (All? Fans of the 13th Amendment might find this a bit surprising.) There are, of course, already tens of thousands of laws governing individual gun ownership in the United States. More laws and regulations exist restricting the Second Amendment than any other right in the Constitution, and its not particularly close. Voting rights advocates treat photo ID laws as if they were tantamount to fascism. Well, practicing your right to self-defense is contingent on an FBI background check. |

A father forfeited his AR-15 rifle to the police after the Texas school shooting, explaining, "It's the only thing I can do."
Former Marine Ben Beers grew up shooting guns recreationally and learning about gun safety. Now, raising two daughters in Oregon, he's always kept his weapons, including a custom-built AR-15 gun, locked in a safe.
However, school shootings have made Beers reconsider gun ownership. "With AR-15s constantly in the news (it made me think), why do I have these in my home?" Beers told TODAY Parents. "I've never used them for self-defense and, to me, it's a token of pure evil and destruction." |

In a Thursday evening address, President Joe Biden addressed recent gun violence in America, suggesting Congress to act on stricter gun laws.
We should reinstate the assault weapons ban and capacity magazines that we passed in 1994 in Congress and with the support of law enforcement, Biden said.
Biden said the policy cut down on mass shootings and that deaths tripled after the measure was allowed to expire in 2004. |

Most Democrats in Congress do not care about institutions or the commonsense gun control proposals they profess to support. They want full-scale gun confiscation, and they dont care how many norms and institutions they need to destroy to accomplish it.
Rep. Mondaire Jones (D-NY) laid out where the Democratic Party stands and why Republicans should not humor any Democratic deal on gun control. If the filibuster obstructs us, we will abolish it, Jones said. If the Supreme Court objects, we will expand it, and we will not rest until weve taken weapons of war out of circulation in our communities.
Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI) put it more bluntly: Spare me the bulls*** about constitutional rights. |

To purchase a long gun long gun being a rifle or shotgun you must fill out a 4473 form and answer 13 questions. An incorrect answer could get you 10 years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine. This process also applies to all individual street sales or transfers.
Once the form is completed the dealer must submit the data to the FBI. The FBI will get back to dealer with a proceed, delayed (more investigation is needed), or a denied, (customer cannot possess a firearm).
Pistols are more complicated. You must apply and receive a Pistol Permit from the Sheriffs Department. He will make the final decision. You will need finger prints, mug shots, references and proof of a pistol safety training course. The process takes about eight months. |

Less than three weeks after the mass shooting in Buffalo, New Yorks Legislature voted on Thursday to raise the purchase age for buying or possessing a semi-automatic rifle to 21 years old.
On Tuesday, state leaders announced that a 10-bill package to strengthen gun control had been introduced in the state Assembly and Senate. The bill to raise the limit is the most significant in the legislative package, which also includes a new law to limit who can purchase bullet-resistant armor, the kind worn by the Buffalo shooter during his attack. |

There is a literal mandate within the Second Amendment itself that gun ownership would be a protected right within the scope of a well-regulated militia. There is no guarantee of gun ownership apart from such a condition. Congress has both a moral and a constitutional mandate to come up with reasonable laws and regulations to put the brakes on the accelerating violence because turning a blind eye to the situation is clearly costing lives. |

As a national debate rages over gun laws after last months mass shooting at a Texas elementary school, proponents of red-flag policies point to a Florida law as a model for states seeking to strip deadly weapons from people who could cause harm.
The Florida law, which allows authorities to take guns from people found to pose a significant danger to themselves or others, has drawn pushback from Second Amendment advocates and some law-enforcement officials.
But supporters say the law used thousands of times since the Republican-controlled Legislature approved it in 2018 has saved an untold number of lives. |
