"This fraudulent misrepresentation, which is being passed off as 'informative political debate,' does a great disservice to American political discourse. Such media sensationalism or worse yet, bias is designed to exploit fear of violent crime, while doing nothing to accurately educate the public about the serious policy issues at stake. Dishonesty may drive up both political approval and television viewer ratings, but its end result is the propagation of popular misunderstanding and misguided policy."

In fact, Bush and Company are putting the pedal to the metal when it comes to promoting a bigger-than-ever federal system. In fact, Bush has used the events of 9/11 to strip Americans of more liberties than any President during the 20th Century, including Bill Clinton or Franklin Roosevelt."

It says the program will help create an airport security system that moves passengers through the airport with increased efficiency, fewer hassles for innocent Americans, and a laser focus on catching potential terrorists. Critics charge that CAPPS II will create a security regime so intrusive and unaccountable that even former Georgia Rep. "Regarding Jack Weaver's letter to the editor May 30, '2nd Amendment not meant for individuals': "

"In 'The Second Amendment Primer' (1996), it states, '(I)t is in those ancient classical civilizations that we find the earliest expressions of man's inalienable right to keep and bear arms.' "

"According to our history in England and most European countries, man has had the right to bear arms for self-protection and to be used whenever he might be called to help defend his nation. This inalienable right of the individual has always been known as "a God-given right." The Bill of Rights are not rights given by the government to the people; rather, they are merely a guarantee by the government that it will not infringe or encroach on our God-given, individual rights."

"A national organization that supports the right to own firearms sent letters yesterday to Washington state's two U.S. attorneys criticizing them for failing to enforce the majority of federal gun laws."

"The letters from the Americans for Gun Safety Foundation come after a recently released study it conducted that slammed the Bush administration for giving rhetorical support to tough enforcement of gun laws but not following through."

"The study, 'The Enforcement Gap, Federal Gun Laws Ignored,' analyzed federal gun prosecutions across the nation from 2000 to 2002. It found that 20 of 22 major federal gun statutes are rarely enforced and that there is a 'vast enforcement gap' between the number of gun crimes and the number of federal prosecutions."

Americans for Gun Safety Foundation is a gun rights group? Since when? Any group that promotes background checks, licensing and "tough" gun laws doesn't consider firearms ownership a right.
