Another likely commission favorite will be the right to individual self-defense as a justification for opposing international and domestic gun control. The National Rifle Association and its foreign allies already argue that the right to own a gun is basic to self-defense and fundamental to all other human rights. At the NRA convention in April, President Trump publicly repudiated the Arms Trade Treaty regulating the international gun trade as a threat to Americans Second Amendment freedoms.

About three weeks ago, gunshots were fired on Van Buren Street. Four, maybe five shots cut through the quiet of my neighborhood at 4 a.m., located in a heavily populated area of Corvallis. After hitting the deck, crawling upstairs, and calming down a bit, I battled with the idea of calling the police. Ultimately, I decided not to, due to self-doubt and a fear of being questioned or having to follow-up with officers for what I assumed would be a fruitless investigation. As far as I could tell (and probably for the same reasons), no one else reported the shots or came to investigate the area, and no police reports were posted online. No one else was even talking about it.

Mass shooters, criminals and the mentally unstable would be of no use in a battle against a tyrannical government. In fact, they would get in the way. So they should not have guns. Congress needs to finally say "no" to the gun lobby and pass legislation to protect the Second Amendment and at the same time protect Madison and the rest of America.

CBS Denver reports that five members on the Commerce City Council voted for the resolution Tuesday night, two voted against and two abstained from the vote.

In April, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed the Red Flag measure, which allows authorities to take guns from people determined to pose a threat to themselves or others.

Last fall, The Advocate reported on a new type of local sanctuary law being passed in counties around Oregon, known broadly as Second Amendment sanctuary laws. They give local law enforcement officials like sheriffs the authority to interpret whether state and federal gun laws conflict with the Second Amendment of the Constitution, and allows them to restrict local resources from being used to enforce conflicting laws.

The Pennsylvania supreme court rules that legal gun owners arent second-class constitutional citizens. SCOTUS, take note.

Second-Amendment advocates are calling out the hypocrisy of Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-NY, after a 2008 letter resurfaced undermining her recent attacks on the National Rifle Association.

Grassroots Illinois-based Second Amendment organization Guns Save Life filed an important NRA-supported case challenging the very foundations of Illinois gun law. Following an early adverse ruling the group filed an expedited appeal asking the Illinois Supreme Court to put aside the lower court's ruling and suspend the state's Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) Act. NRA has supported and been involved in this case as they are in cases all over the state. The FOID Act requires law-abiding Illinois citizens to obtain and pay for a license from the State before they are allowed to posses or purchase any firearms and ammunition.

Once again, after a senseless act of violence, gun ownership opponents including those in the news media rush to penalize millions of lawful firearms owners for something they didnt do.

The mayhem in Virginia Beach was the act of a man who legally purchased the two pistols recovered by authorities at the scene. He was an employee of the Public Utilities Department, and reportedly had a good work record.

In 2016, the disabled U.S Army vet purchased a suppressor to use on his firearms during target shooting to prevent further damage to his hearing.

Kansas has a law called the Second Amendment Protection Act. The law states that firearms made within the borders of the state and kept only within Kansas are exempt from national firearms regulations.

U.S. Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) might be gunning to outdo President Barack Obamas best gun salesman title. Thats right. Hes at it again, reminding every law-abiding gun owner and potential voter of whats truly at stake in the next election.

Rep. Swalwell reiterated his threat of mass gun confiscation this week. He aired this threat on ABCs The View, couching it as a mandatory buyback that would strip the more than 16 million modern sporting rifles from legal ownership should he be elected president.

Kris Brown, the president of the gun reform advocacy group Brady, says that an upcoming special legislative session focusing on gun control in Virginia ー called by the states governor following the fatal shooting of 12 people at a public works building in Virginia Beach last Friday ー is necessary and vital.

I think the governor is very rightly saying votes and laws, not thoughts and prayers, she said.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen. Samuel Adams
