PA: Guns may be excluded from courtrooms, but not courthouses

"Of all the freedoms dear to Air Force vet Stanley Switzer, he's especially partial to the one that allows him to carry a sidearm. And when county commissioners in Clarion and Jefferson counties told him he couldn't bring a gun into a county courthouse, he and a couple other Western Pennsylvania gun owners fought the law."

"And the gun owners won." ...

"A judge has ruled that a security ordinance allowing for metal detectors and X-ray machines to be placed in the courthouse doorway to conduct weapons searches, conflicts with state law that says 'no county [may] regulate the lawful ownership, possession, transfer or transportation of firearms.' "Why have guns entered our national political stage? Why is it that the vice president needs a photo-op with a flintlock? Why does the president need to dress up in hunting gear? Why does the Kerry campaign need to counter that Kerry is a duck hunter, especially when he is called a fake and a poseur right away? True believers can always tell the difference."

"And anyway, who cares? Why should we care if our past, present or future president is a duck hunter or a fake duck hunter? What does duck hunting have to do with the economy, foreign policy, social security, health care, education and the environment? Nothing, and at the same time everything."

"Now, Clark has ended that particular assignment for Northern District officers. The police officers now guarding Clark's condominium no longer pull that duty randomly -- they're with the executive protection unit."

"Here we have the gun-banning hoplophobes trying to further engrain the 'victim' mentality amongst the defenseless subjects. The gubmint has disarmed the entire society based on the misguided criminal actions of a very few. Now they're trying to again look like they care by teaching the defenseless lemmings how to patch up their gunshot wounds. Strangely enough, they're silent on the recommended treatment for mortal wounds.

"Red Cross officials are providing first-aid training to British residents living in high gun-crime areas so that they can provide basic first aid at the scenes of shootings, the BBC reported June 1."

"Training has begun in parts of Manchester, including Moss Side and Hulme. According to Red Cross officials, the goal is to save lives by providing residents with the skills to treat gun victims in the vital few minutes before emergency personnel arrive."

So what have we learned today, children? Well, it would appear, according to the California office of a Washington, D.C. based organization, that our kids are joining gangs and wreaking gun violence because we (by way of confiscatory taxation) are not giving them enough money. Apparently the message being foisted upon us is that if we'd only redistribute more of our income to the little gang-bangers they'd stop hurting and killing us on our way to work. That's not too disingenuous now, is it?

"The information was compiled by the department as part of an ongoing effort to investigate and document violence in Minnesota."

"The report also should help 'provide context' to the debate regarding the use of firearms in a state that last year loosened restrictions on the law allowing its residents to carry handguns in public, said Jon Roesler, senior epidemiologist with the agency's injury and violence prevention unit."

FULL TEXT BELOW:

Yesterday, vehemently anti-gun Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) introduced S. 2498, legislation that would reauthorize the Clinton gun ban. The bill is being held on the Senate floor and could come up at any time.

This is the start of a sustained political battle we'll be waging over the next few months. Our opponents will continue to work at every turn to try and accomplish their anti-gun goals, and we need to be prepared. Please visit NRA-ILA's informative website-- www.ClintonGunBan.com --and learn the facts about this debate, which has too long been driven and dominated by falsehoods and emotion. And please forward this website to others who need to know both the history and the truth about this issue. Then, please contact your Senators and urge them to oppose S. 2498 or any other legislation seeking to extend the so-called "assault weapons" ban. You can find contact information for your elected officials by using the "Write Your Representatives" tool at www.NRAILA.org, or you can call your U.S. Senators at (202) 224-3121.

" 'We fight for freedom, which everyone wants, so why are we nowhere?' asked Libertarian Party (LP) presidential nomination hopeful Aaron Russo to a room of 30 or so supporters and potential supporters at the 2004 Libertarian Party National Convention in Atlanta on Saturday. On Sunday, he won the first and second ballot for the nomination, only to lose the third." ...

"Boortz has his own answer to Russo's question about why the LP has gone nowhere. He told the rapt breakfast crowd on Saturday that by reimagining themselves as the party of property rights and a national sales tax, rather than the party of drug legalization and eliminating occupational licensing, they'd reach heretofore-unknown heights of success and acclaim. (Showing perhaps not as much retail political acumen as he pretended, he also openly posited that most people in this country are just too stupid to handle freedom.)" ...

"Badnarik has a very libertarian message about restricting the government strictly to its explicitly Constitutional duties, a message that LP delegates loved to hear; but his natural tendency is to deliver it in a style far more legal, philosophical, and historical than political in an everyday sense. But he is the kind of man and has the kind of message that LP activists can relate to comfortably. It remains to be seen, given his past and where he's starting from in terms of money and publicity, if anyone except people attending his speaking events will get to hear what he has to say. The LP, as always, has its work cut out for it. And its hardcore devotees don't seem to want it any other way."
