FORT WORTH -- A Duncanville man is recovering after police said a burglar broke into his home and shot him.
Police responded to a call from the 200 block of Martin Luther Circle at nearly 5 a.m. Friday. The homeowner told police he woke up and found someone inside the house.

The homeowner and the burglar then shot at each other.

Police said they later found the suspect wounded in a nearby field.

The homeowner will not be charged, according to police, because they deemed it a case of self-defense.

Authorities are investigating the overnight shooting death of a man who broke into the home of his estranged wife.

Witnesses told police that Robert Andrew Wolfe, 49, broke into the Sallisaw residence and attacked Kimberly Opal Davis with a baseball bat. Davis grabbed a pistol and shot Wolfe, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesman for the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said it appears the shooting was justifiable.

TALLAHASSEE - A 2005 law allowing people to use deadly force to protect themselves and others against violence is not retroactive, the Florida Supreme Court ruled Thursday in the case of a taxi driver who had been charged with murdering a drunken passenger.

The justices unanimously ruled a trial judge had erred by offering to instruct jurors that they could consider the law in deciding whether to convict West Palm Beach cabbie Robert Lee Smiley Jr. of first-degree murder.

A new state law removes a large elephant foot off the chests of Missouri citizens who choose to use guns for self-protection:

We no longer have to worry about being sued by some scofflaw, or perhaps would-be-assassin trying to break into our homes if we defend ourselves with legally permitted weapons.

Ed.: Reportedly, the law goes into effect August 28, 2007.

Police say the dismissal of firearms charges against an Auckland gunshop owner who shot a machete-wielding robber last July shouldn't be seen as "an invitation to use weapons against robbers".

However, the decision by the two JPs to throw out the charge of illegal possession of a pistol against Greg Carvell - they ruled the Crown failed to prove a prima facie case - does reaffirm the right to use reasonable force in self defence. And Mr Carvell's defence would have seemed unimpeachable.

Intruder Ricky Beckham was shot in the stomach with a round from a .45 calibre pistol (kept under a desk with a clip of ammunition) after he entered Small Arms International gunshop in Great South Road and demanded guns and threatened staff.

NRA president Wayne LaPierre said that Cheney is deserving of the honor. "Dick is a friend to the Constitution of the United States in general and to the 2nd Amendment in particular. His shooting of not only quail, but that lawyer down in Texas last year is what it's all about as far as I'm concerned."

More handgun laws would only further restrict the ownership of firearms by law-abiding citizens, law's criminals don't comply with anyway.

The majority of handguns purchased today by law-abiding citizens are for self-defense, because all too often, you are the first and only line of defense between you and an intruder who is prepared to do harm to you and your family. Many will say that's why we have law enforcement but don't be naive. Law enforcement is out numbered, too few of them and too many criminals.

(Staunton) - The nation’s most respected Sportsmen association has endorsed Senator Emmett Hanger on his re-election campaign and for the June 12th primary this coming Tuesday.

Hanger is known across the Commonwealth, and particularly in the Virginia General Assembly as one of the strongest and most out-spoken supporters of the Second Amendment and hunting heritage rights. This week’s backing by the National Rifle Association (NRA) demonstrates the trust members have with Hanger in representing their views and interests. The NRA Political Victory Fund has publicly endorsed Hanger and is encouraging all its members to vote June 12 to return Hanger to the Virginia Senate.

America's 1st war for independence

Exactly 100 years before the members of the 2nd Continental Congress pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor to the cause of freedom, Jamestown became the location of America's first true war for independence.

The year was 1676, and the key players were an impatient and heavy-handed governor named Sir William Berkeley, and the charismatic legislator and populist, Nathaniel Bacon.

The question was this: What are citizens supposed to do when their wives and children are being murdered and scalped on a regular basis, and the civil magistrate (in this case, the governor) not only refuses to defend them, but actually prohibits the citizenry from taking up arms in defense of their own family members?

For example, political leaders in both parties are allowed to chip away at our Second Amendment freedoms to the point that it is only a matter of time (and maybe a very short time) before the right to keep and bear arms will be forfeited, as has already been done in places such as England, Canada, and Australia (and in many states in the U.S.). This attack on the right to keep and bear arms will certainly intensify if any of the current presidential frontrunners is elected next year.

If Hillary Clinton, Barak Obama, John Edwards, Rudy Giuliani, John McCain, or Mitt Romney is elected President next year, Americans will have the fight of their life on hand to preserve the little freedom to keep and bear arms that currently exists.

Bill Richardson - governor, presidential candidate, hunter - is a good shot, and he has the prey to prove it. "I would call myself a recreational hunter," Richardson said in a recent interview. "I am not an avid hunter or an expert hunter." The New Mexico governor says hunting is just a hobby and that he's still a novice because he took it up in earnest only about four years ago, when he became governor of New Mexico.

One Buffalo woman was so afraid of the gun in her possession that she swaddled it in a baby blanket and wrapped it with mounds of duct tape. Another elderly woman was overjoyed to finally get rid of the gun she found tucked away in her grandsons bedroom. These were just some of the stories behind the 422 residents who participated in the citys gun buyback program on Saturday by surrendering firearms in exchange for cash cards. The cards ranged from $10 to $100, depending on the type of gun. Thursday, police and city officials revealed that they are hoping to organize another gun buyback program next year because Saturday's program was such a success.

"Currently there is a most significant and at the same time generally overlooked development taking place in our national political life," gun law expert John M. Snyder noted here today. "That development," he continued, "is the strengthening of a natural alliance between Americas scores of millions of law-abiding gun owners and the law enforcement community on at least one issue of great significance to both groups. "The unifying catalyst for this alignment is mutual opposition to a national campaign against the Tiahrt Amendment launched by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and like-minded municipal officials."

Federal authorities indicated Thursday they would not raid the home of two convicted tax evaders but did serve a warrant to seize property they own in a neighboring town.

The warrant was served in Lebanon and authorities had no contact with Ed and Elaine Brown at their fortified hilltop compound in rural Plainfield, U.S. Marshal Stephen Monier said.

Neighbors had reported heavily armed police and at least one armored vehicle near the 110-acre property Thursday morning. Reporters were kept away from the scene and a plane carrying an Associated Press photographer was ordered out of the airspace.

"We are here ... to serve that warrant," Monier said in a statement to calm speculation that a raid was imminent.

Ordinary American citizens are too stupid, drunken, violence prone, irresponsible, deranged, impulsive or careless to be permitted to own firearms, because they will use them to slaughter each other.

Hogwash. Eighty million law-abiding Americans keep firearms. Their firearms accident rate is the lowest in history, and getting lower. The chances of an ordinary gun owner being shot, either accidentally or deliberately, by another ordinary gun owner are about the same as his or her chances of being struck by lightning.
