Still, if the spare story we've heard is right, a likely legal defense for Davis whether he's charged or only subjected to departmental discipline has already emerged: reasonable belief. Arkansas law, as Scott Shackford reports at Reason, permits "the use of deadly force as self-defense in situations where a person 'reasonably believes' the other person is about to commit a violent felony or use unlawful deadly force. There is a duty to retreat in the law, but law enforcement officers are specifically exempt." |

A woman was killed during a home invasion in Modesto in what investigators are calling an act of self-defense.
Sgt. Luke Schwartz of the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office said detectives are currently investigating the home invasion, which happened around 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, at a home along the 3900 block of Blue Gum Avenue in Modesto. That area is in a rural part of Modesto, with few homes and lots of farmland.
During the investigation, law enforcement learned a woman attempted to break into the home occupied by an elderly couple by "smashing a sliding glass door with a fire extinguisher," a press release from the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office says. |

Here is where the most critical choice of your future with regards to firearms must be made. If you answer YES because you have a medical marijuana card, the dealer cannot proceed with the sale, and you leave without the gun. If you have a medical card and answer NO you have just committed perjury on a Federal form. The penalty for this offense is 5 years in a federal prison and a $10,000 fine. So youre still not sure if this is accurate information? There have been many cases in a number of states where people have been charged and convicted of perjury and illegal firearms possession. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, the most liberal court in the US, upheld a lower court conviction in one such case. |

The term pistol first came about in 16th-century Europe when the wheel-lock ignition system for firearms allowed a more efficient manner of carry than the matchlock (simply a smoldering cord attached to the hammer).
The first pistols were intended for use in combat on horseback, with their grip designed to allow for convenient firing with one hand while allowing the other hand to control the horse. These were hefty, long-barreled pistols that were normally carried in saddle holsters. |

Some members of Nashville's black community are worried about the impact permitless carry law will have when it goes into effect on Thursday.
According to the Washington Post, black Americans are shot and killed by police at a much higher rate than white Americans. The Middle Tennessee Black Gun Club told News 4 they have been working to ease some of those concerns.
The permitless carry law allows anyone 21 years old and older who can legally own a firearm to carry a concealed firearm without a permit. |

Gun owners in San Jose will soon have to pay for insurance to keep their firearms.
The San Jose City Council unanimously passed gun control measures Tuesday that will require all gun owners in the city to carry insurance and pay an annual fee to cover taxpayer costs related to gun violence, or risk having their guns confiscated. The city attorneys office will return to the council in the fall with an ordinance for final approval.
San Jose could become the first city in the nation to pass such reforms. |

Governor John Bel Edwards vetoed a bill that would have allowed Louisianians 21 and over to conceal carry a firearm without a permit. Under current law, permits are required for concealed carry.
Brandon Elias, the owner of Sentry Defense in Youngsville, said although he teaches firearm safety classes so that people can get a permit, he doesnt agree with the Governor's decision.
I think that everyone should own a gun to help protect themselves and concealing it is a huge benefit for the surprise factor in self-defense, Elias said.
Open carry without a permit is currently legal in the state. Elias feels concealed carry should also be allowed. |

The poll, which was taken June 11-17, found that Bidens handling of the economy dropped from an April poll in which a majority approved of his performance.
The president also saw a major dip in his approval rating on gun control between April and June. Support for Bidens anti-gun agenda dropped 8 percentage points overall and 11 points among Democrats. |

Kentucky would become a Second Amendment sanctuary state if legislation being proposed for the 2022 General Assembly is enacted.
The measure, which will be sponsored by Rep. Josh Bray, R-Mt. Vernon, would bar state and local law enforcement agencies from enforcing federal restrictions on the Second Amendments right to bear arms. It would also prohibit local governments and other public agencies from allocating public resources or money in the enforcement of federal firearm bans. It includes firearms themselves, ammunition and firearm accessories. |

In the letter, the state leaders welcome the NRA to consider transferring the organization from Fairfax, Va. to Wyoming, citing its low taxes. They added that the state's population strongly supports the Second Amendment and its land offers many outdoor opportunities. |
