The gun market is exploding. So are the options for self-defense and safety training. Training has grown in availability and quality. To give you some perspective, dedicated civilian firearms training only started 40 years ago. Training and the gun culture are changing every day! Today, Americans buy about a million guns a month and those are a lot of people to teach about firearms.

In a significant doctrinal shift, the U.S. military is relegating full metal jacketed (FMJ) pistol bullets to a training role, and will be adopting modern hollowpoint designs similar to those used by most domestic law enforcement agencies and citizens who carry handguns for self-defense.
The stunning announcement was made at the U.S Armys Picatinny Arsenal in New Jersey yesterday during the militarys two-day industry day for the Modular Handgun System (MHS), which will conclude today.

SUBMITTER'S COMMENT: It's ironic that the announcement was made in a state which prohibits the possession of hollowpoint ammunition outside the home.

The Times newspaper has waded into the US Second Amendment debate, blaming gun crime in Britain on the sale of blank-firing pistols sourced from across the Atlantic.

Gun crime spiked immediately after the total ban of handguns in the United Kingdom in 1997, and has been fluctuating ever since, as police struggled to contain the flow of imported banned weapons which easily find their way into criminal hands. One method of acquiring a working firearm is the purchase of pistol blank-firers which can be modified to take live ammunition from dealers in other countries who will post them by ordinary mail to addresses in the United Kingdom, where they are illegal.

The rules have changed.

A Kansas law that took effect last week gives most people 21 and older the option of carrying a concealed handgun in public on their person, whether that be a six-shooter in a holster, a semiautomatic handgun in a waistband or a pistol in a purse.

The law legalizes the concealed carry of a firearm without a concealed carry license issued by the State, as long as that individual is not prohibited from possessing a firearm under either federal or state law, Topeka police Lt. Colleen Stuart said Thursday.

An iconic Texas burger chain has found itself in the crosshairs of gun politics in the months leading up to a state law change set to take effect allowing open carry of handguns.

Preston Atkinson, President and CEO of Whataburger, released a statement this week, saying that, Whataburger supports customers Second Amendment rights, but we havent allowed the open carry of firearms in our restaurants for a long time, although we have not prohibited licensed concealed carry.

When Seattle City Council President Tim Burgess was interviewed yesterday by KOMO, he asserted that, Gun violence is a huge problem in our city, in our region and frankly in our whole country. We have an epidemic of gun violence, but does the crime data back that up?

Examiner checked the FBI Uniform Crime Reports over the past several years, and they show a marked decline in violent crime, especially in homicides with firearms. In its preliminary report on crime for last year, issued in January, the FBI noted, All the offenses in the violent crime categorymurder and non-negligent manslaughter, rape (revised definition), aggravated assault, and robberyshowed decreases when data from the first six months of 2014

The Florida Supreme Court is keeping the burden of proof with the defendant seeking immunity under the Stand Your Ground self-defense law.

The justices on Thursday affirmed the current practice used in courts statewide for pretrial immunity hearings under the law. The court rejected an attempt to shift the burden of proof at that stage from defendants to the prosecution.

Donald Trump says that if elected president, he will abolish the gun free zones currently imposed on U.S. troops by [mandating] that soldiers remain armed and on alert at our military bases.

In an interview with Ammoland he said: President Clinton never should have passed a ban on soldiers being able to protect themselves on bases. Americas Armed Forces will be armed.

1. First of all, assault weapons will be banned except for the National Guard. People who currently own assault weapons will be required to sell them to the National Guard which will distribute them to legitimate military units where they will be used for defense of the country.

2. Anyone wishing to buy a handgun will buy it from a police department. The police department will be allowed to make a profit on the guns they sell in order to pay for the systems gun owners database. These individual police department databases will be collected into a full national gun owners database and maintained by the Department of Homeland Security. Following a background check, the police department will issue the applicant a gun permit.

But guns have a special salience now, after Newtown, after South Carolina, and veterans of the marriage movement see familiar terrain in guns so familiar that they feel optimistic about being able to guide Americans to a similarly radical culture shift down the line. Like marriage a decade ago, the gun debate as its waged in public feels hopelessly entrenched. Like marriage, a persons firm position on guns goes far beyond policy preferences to much more emotional, irrational questions of values and identity.

Sanders, an Independent running for the Democratic presidential nomination, characterized the law as providing immunity for gun manufacturers from being sued when a gun is misused by a third party. With the right to open carry a handgun set to go into effect on Jan. 1, the city of Mount Pleasant is preparing to adapt to the new law.

Mount Pleasant Police Chief Wayne Isbell says that the department is working on policies for when the law is implemented.

Its a law that were going to have to adhere to, Isbell said. Were still asking questions, and we wont have a policy for procedure probably until around October or November. We are researching to determine what our response will be to citizens who open carry, but it will be based on Fourth Amendment rights.

The department also addressed the concerns of local residents via a Facebook post that helped explain license requirements.

A lot can go wrong when you open carry what seems to be a MP-5. Yes, people are going to call the police. Yes, the police will approach you. You can start spouting your Second Amendment rights and local codes but the officer has an obligation to see if you are a threat.

Ed.: No they don't. Where open carry is legal, open carry alone is insufficient for reasonable suspicion for a Terry stop.

Democrat Clyburn Lies About Charleston Shooting to Push Gun Control Legislation

Rep. Clyburn is lying through his teeth. The murderous racist who attacked Emanuel A.M.E. Zion Church purchased his weapon, a Glock 41 .45 ACP pistol, after passing a FBI NICS background check.

It is definitive that background checks are not a Minority Report-style preventative measure, and the majority of mass murderers since Brady passed did pass background checks.

Clyburn, Pelosi, Thompson, and King know that they are pushing a bill based upon a lie.

In other words, its business as usual for the liberty-hating supporters of gun control.

So, when police pull up to a darkened house in the middle of the night and start pounding on the door, a sleepy, confused and frightened occupant could begin shooting in what he or she might justifiably consider self-defense.

That happened in January in Sentinel, Oklahoma, where a man with a grudge used his victims name to tell police he had planted a bomb at a preschool. When officers arrived at the victims house, the police chief was shot several times in the chest by the frightened homeowner.

Fortunately, police did not return fire and the chiefs protective vest deflected the bullets. The homeowner was not charged with a crime.

According to WSMV, Larry Dean Claybaker was getting into his car around 10 p.m. when the teens approached. They allegedly took his cellphone and told him to get out of his car, which is when Claybaker reached into his pocket and pulled out a semi-automatic pistol, firing one round at each suspect.

...

Claybaker faces no charges, as it was determined he acted in self-defense. He has a concealed carry permit.

As Thug Culture Continues To Take Lives, The Gun Violence Myth Persists

We do not have a gun violence problem in the United States.

We have at least 300+ million firearms in circulation, and add roughly a million more every month. If guns were violent, the population of the United States would have been wiped out entirely long ago.

Gun violence is a myth.

What we have is a thug violence problem that accounts for roughly half the homicides in the United States, and yet no one is willing to address it.

An attempted robbery at a San Antonio automotive shop Tuesday afternoon was thwarted when the owner of the business opened fire on the suspects, killing one and possibly wounding the second.

The two suspects drove to Vails Industrial Park around 2 p.m. One of the men stayed in the truck, while the other walked into the business, brandished a gun and demanded the owner hand over money, as well as the owners wallet.

However, instead of grabbing for his wallet or any cash, the owner of the shop reached for a handgun. An exchange of gunfire ensued, and the suspect sitting in the truck was struck in the stomach.

But while we wait for her solution, we have these words of encouragement from Clinton: Lets not be afraid of the gun lobby, which does not even really represent the majority of gun owners in America.

While we cant speak for the entire gun lobby, NRA does a lot more than represent the majority of gun owners in America. It represents the majority of Americans, who say they are not interested in more gun control. And as it turns out, it represents a strong majority of Americans who identify as Independentsthe fabled swing voter demographic.

It's been three years since Tony Collum was shot by Mark Harris.

In June 2012, Harris was arrested and charged with multiple felonies after the two men got into an argument that turned violent at Harris's Cartersville home.

"I'm glad the trial's over," said Collum, "I didnt go to the closings, I didn't go to the verdict, I've actually gone on with my life and glad to be alive."

On Wednesday, a Bartow County jury found Harris not guilty on all charges related to the shooting.

IN: New gun legislation takes effect in Indiana - seriously?

Last week in the Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce office we were discussing recent legislative changes taking effect July 1, and office manager Monique mentioned that it is now lawful for Indiana residents to own a sawed-off shotgun.

While a supporter of our 2nd Amendment, I questioned that anyone would seriously introduce legislation that would make it legal to own a sawed-off shotgun, and yet, there it was, Senate Bill 433, signed into law. Under this new law, a sawed-off shotgun is defined as "a shotgun having one or more barrels less than 19 inches in length." Have you ever witnessed the destructive power of one of these weapons?
