A man accused of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon after he wounded two brothers in a confrontation outside a Simi Valley bowling alley in December 2004 was found not guilty, his attorney said today.
Virgil Poe, 25, was acting in self-defense when he shot the brothers, 22 and 24, in the confrontation outside the bowling alley on Cochran Street, said Poe's attorney, Robert Schwartz.
Both brothers have recovered from their wounds.
Poe was charged with premeditated attempted murder for the shooting of one brother and assault with a deadly weapon in the case of the other, and he faced a possible sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
The Ventura County Superior Court jury returned the not-guilty verdict Friday. |

On Tuesday, the trial of a Tulare County Sheriff�s deputy began with emotional testimony.
Deputy Paul Turner is charged with negligent storage of his service pistol which was used to kill a young girl.
Back in 2004, seven year old Gabby Garcia was accidentally shot and killed after a group of kids found the gun while playing in Turner�s home.
Turner sat silently in court as Gabby�s family members took the stand and recounted the details of her death.
Several law enforcement officers also took the stand.
Turner could lose his job and spend up to three years behind bars, if convicted. |
