Re Bloody backlash (Page 1A, July 8): Retribution has come. I am shocked that the American public is shocked. Did you not hear or feel our pain every time one of our sons was murdered by the authorities? With each incident we imagined the faces of our own relatives with police officers pouncing on them and pulling out their guns. You scream stop and you hear the shot, and the tears start flowing. |

The Detroit Police Department is aiming to help gun owners with an upcoming event.
This event is all about educating gun owners on firearm safety to help prevent accidents.
Proper storage, we're told, is the best way to prevent accidents involving guns.
Detroit Police Chief James Craig will be joined by the National Shooting Sports Foundation later today where they'll be talking about firearm safety and proper storage and misuse of guns.
The goal here is to promote the safe use of any firearm and help the community by handing out gun locks and information.
The event will be held outside Detroit Public Safety Headquarters on Third Street at 3 p.m. today. |

Jumping to conclusions. Seems way to many are making judgement before all the facts are in. Before the investigations are concluded, media, politicians and a lot of ordinary people are making judgment. |

In the wake of yet another tragedy, USA has opted to postpone the premiere of forthcoming series Shooter. The sniper drama, which opens with the sound of a gunshot along with real-life images of historical incidents of gun violence, is being held a week given the recent attack in downtown Dallas where, in the wee hours of July 7, a heavily armed sniper with a checkered military background gunned down a cadre of police officers, leaving five of them dead. |

Its been a rough week for the good guys. Just as police are dealing with the shootings in Dallas last Thursday, a group of bad guys drove through a gun store in Waxahachie Sunday morning. Video caught everything on camera but police arent ready to release it yet. When I watch it, it shows the vehicle coming in through the wall. Then they back out and everybody runs in then they run back out," said gun shop owner Chuck Edge. |

Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and his GOP leadership team on Monday decided to punt on any gun-related legislation until after the long summer recess. The latest shootings across the country led Republican leaders to believe that debating and voting on contentious gun control bills now would only inflame an already violent situation. The decision means the House, which has been wrestling with gun control legislation for weeks, will not consider bills to prevent suspected terrorists from obtaining guns until at least after its seven-week recess, which is set to begin at the end of this week. |

Delegates to the Republican national convention would do best to leave their guns at home. The Secret Service and the Quicken Loans Arena hosting the convention next week are both barring firearms within the convention, though state law allowing open carry will still apply to unsecured areas within the conventions event zone |

Among the more bizarre images emanating from downtown Dallas Thursday night was that of an African-American man dressed in camouflage standing on the street with a rifle slung over his shoulder. Was he with the marchers? Was he the assassin? Was he one of several shooters "triangulating" Dallas police officers? |

Only a tiny fraction of Massachusetts residents who apply for firearms licenses or identification cards are turned down, suggesting the states reputation for restricting gun use may be overstated. Just 1.8 percent of those who applied for Firearms Identification Cards (FID) and licenses to carry concealed weapons between 2010 and 2015 were rejected, according to state data. Monson in western Massachusetts is the strictest community in issuing licenses. Between 2010 and 2015, the town issued 1,502 FID cards and licenses to carry. |

Since five officers were fatally shot and seven others wounded Thursday in Dallas, Redmond police say they've been heartened by support from the community, much like many police agencies around the country."It's been really neat to see people come out and thank people on the street. I've had a few individuals even give me the thumbs up as they were driving by today," Sgt. Aaron Wells said Monday.

Whichever side of the gun ownership debate you stand on, it would be hard to argue against the fact that not every dangerous situation needs to be resolved in a lethal manner. Whether its drunk neighbours trying to enter the wrong house, unarmed robbers trying to get into your car, or shitfaced hooligans looking for a fight, these are situations you might want to deal with proportionally and not lethally. The SALT Pepper Spray gun is loaded with rounds filled with a powdered pepper spray that creates a chemical cloud upon impact, incapacitating anyone in the vicinity. |
