Flying guns might not be something you worried about on the way to work today, but lawmakers have introduced a bill in the Michigan House to make sure you never have to. The legislation, introduced in June, would outlaw drones with guns or other weapons attached. It's a good idea, even if problems with such concoctions haven't yet occurred. |

After receiving a petition in May alleging the City of Birmingham did not have the authority to ban firearms at Railroad Park and Boutwell Auditorium, Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange found the city in violation of Alabama law. The city previously had signs banning guns at Railroad Park and Boutwell Auditorium. According to Alabama law establishing the basis for carrying a gun, the Alabama Legislature occupies and preempts the entire field of regulation touching in any way upon firearms, ammunition, and firearm accessories. A municipality cannot infringe upon the state's authority when it comes to carrying a gun. |

For the umpteenth time in recent months, a network has held a TV episode because of its uncomfortable resonance with recent events. Following the delay of USAs Mr. Robot season 1 finale (which depicted a fatal shooting on live TV, similar to the one on a Virginia local news station) and TNTs The Last Ship season premiere (which depicted a nightclub shooting, similar to the one in Orlando), USA has pushed back the airing of its new drama Shooter. |

The New Black Panther Party, a "black power" organization, plans to attend demonstrations in Cleveland ahead of the Republican National Convention, and members plan to bring their firearms. Hashim Nzinga, chairman of the New Black Panther Party, told Reuters in an interview on Tuesday that the group planned on exercising its Second Amendment rights in Ohio, an open-carry state, because "there are other groups threatening to be there that are threatening to do harm to us." |

The deaths last week of three African-American men in encounters with police, along with the killing of five Dallas officers by a black shooter, have left many African-American gun owners with conflicting feelings; those range from shock to anger and defiance. As the debate over gun control heats up, some African-Americans see firearms as critical to their safety, especially in times of racial tension.

There have been lots of arguments in the gun-control debate in Washington, but there probably have not been many like Tylor Vaccas. Kids at school ask me how my dad died all the time, and I tell them that he was shot by a 9-year-old girl who was learning to fire an Uzi, Tylor said Tuesday during a news conference in the Capitol. His dad, firearms instructor Charles Vacca, was killed on a shooting range in White Hills on Aug. 25, 2014, when the girl lost control of the submachine gun she was firing and accidentally struck Charles Vacca in the head. |

It doesnt take much time of effort to find an Internet commando waxing on how fast he can double tap his pistol or rifle. Like a lot of terms, double tap is often used with flippancy and no regard as to its true meaning. As it is with most things, there is little that is new under the sun, and double tapthe term and the practicehas been around longer than most of us are aware. The term is usually credited to William Ewart Fairbairn and Eric A. Sykes, British soldiers and police officials in Shanghaicirca the 1930swho also were devout students of effective fighting techniques that included hand-to-hand, edged-weapon, as well as the handgun. |

The Founding Fathers may have meant well by creating the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and ratifying it on Dec. 15, 1791. However, it turns out that they did irreparable harm to our nation. The United States has the highest gun ownership rate in the world and the highest per capita rate of firearm-related murders of all developed countries. That is nothing to be proud of! |

Supreme Court justices have gotten involved in partisan politics before. Charles Evans Hughes even ran for president. But he resigned from the court before accepting the 1916 Republican presidential nomination. (He returned to the court in 1930, when President Hoover appointed him to succeed Chief Justice William Howard Taft, himself a former president.)

In the wake of a deadly sniper attack during a protest last week in Dallas, where open-carry laws reportedly made it difficult for police to tell the difference between potential suspects and marchers carrying legal firearms, there are rising concerns that similar open-carry laws in Ohio risk turning the Republican National Convention into a security nightmare. With a wide range of gun-wielding individuals and groupsfrom Second Amendmentloving conservatives to Trump supporters to white nationalists and even the New Black Panther Partyset to converge in Cleveland in less than a weeks time, the debate over whether to allow guns at packed events like the Republican convention has reached fever pitch.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton praised Dallas Police Chief David Brown's suggestion that protesters apply to join the Dallas police force, but he took exception Tuesday to the chief's criticisms of the state's open carry law. On Brown's "now hiring" message, Paxton told CNN: "It is easy to sit back and complain, especially when you're talking about police officers having to make split-second decisions that involve life and death ... so I thought it was a great suggestion for Chief Brown to offer up those positions."

When it became legal six months ago for properly licensed Texans to openly carry handguns, anti-gun activists and Second Amendment backers were sharply divided over what to expect. More people carrying visible guns would likely increase the chances of death or tragedy, opponents argued, while supporters said responsible gun owners would increase safety. |

Whenever high-profile bullets start flying, calls for new gun control measures are never far behind. In what has become our new national pastime, the tragedy in Dallas was immediately politicized, with the Left demanding more firearm regulations as the simple and obvious solution to the far more complicated problems of an overly-militarized police force with ineffective accountability and the violent tribalism of the Black Lives Matter crowd forged by the Lefts own virulent identity politics.

Once again we have been witness to a mass shooting, this time in Orlando, Florida with horrible results. Unfortunately, this type of incident is becoming all too familiar. The reasons for these shootings are based on a host of reasons. However, they all do have a common denominator: Guns, guns of every description from automatic pistols to rifles and in particular, the use of so-called assault weapons.

From rallies to sit-ins, Democrats have tried a number of strategies in recent weeks to force a vote on gun reform. Democrats dont currently have the deciding vote in Congress, so what did the party accomplish when it did have control back in 2009 and 2010? Congressional records from that time, the 111th Congress and the first under President Barack Obamas tenure, show that Democrats did pass historic legislation during that time, including the Stimulus Bill, Dodd-Frank and the Affordable Care Act. Noticeably absent is any significant legislation on guns.

Theres been much focus since the Orlando nightclub shooting on finding new ways to prevent terrorist events like it from happening again on U.S. soil. The U.S. House has been particularly focused on the issue, even during summer recess.
While radicalization and homegrown terrorism certainly need to be stamped out, and the House proposals seek to do that, theyre also concerning for those who care about due process and the rule of law.
Democrats have proposed an outright ban for those on terrorist watch lists and the countrys no-fly list from purchasing firearms. Its an explicitly unconstitutional proposal.

The murders in Orlando were a huge failure. Based on their actions, our government is neither interested in our safety nor is it able to protect us.
The murderer killed for hours. We are all we have to keep ourselves safe. You are all you have to keep yourself safe. Please make sure that is enough.
Fortunately, your safety is under your control. That is why Im begging you to get training. Your safety is too important to leave in the hands of a government officials like these. |
