There was a time when kings ruled their subjects. We reject that idea today, but we remained influenced by our history. That is why we are so repelled by the obvious corruption of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Our disgust at political corruption today is divinely inspired from an ancient tradition.

The sixth homicide of Des Moines brought the "Stand Your Ground" law back into the spotlight.

"Sounds like, according to the business owner, that the suspect tried to confront him, business owner was armed and shot him," said Des Moines Police Sgt. Paul Parizek.

The owner of Kraft Imports and Five Star Mufflers shot and killed a reported burglar that was stealing from his shop. This incident brings into play the 'Stand Your Ground Law' that was signed in 2017.

"The law was written with this kind of situation in mind I think," said Sgt. Parizek.

Kirk Kjellberg, the inventor of the smartphone-looking pistol, told WHDH that he came up with the idea after a child called him out for having a gun on him. This way, no one would know or question why he was carrying.

Its more that they want to be able to carry a gun when they need to and not have to engage other people about why theyre carrying that gun, Kjellberg said.

He added that the weapon is not a threat to places like an airport and that he has been in contact with Homeland Security to help train officers in identifying the weapon.

For one, the shooting couldnt be blamed on some sort of black-clad, high-tech killing machine. Rather, it was carried out with the primitive yet pervasive weapon that has remained mostly unchanged since the late 1800s: the shotgun.

It would be incredibly hard, if not impossible, to get people to rally around shotgun restrictions, and characterizing a shotgun as an assault-something would further push the assault weapon debate toward meaninglessness. The attack couldnt be blamed on lax gun laws this time either. It happened in Maryland, a veritable hellhole for gun owners.

A law professor at George Washington University contacted The Fix after this article was published, giving a partial defense of Murphys recommendation.

John Banzhaf, who has recommended training young women to fight off would-be attackers they already know, wrote in an email the distinction turns on whether deadly force is reasonably necessary to prevent a forcible rape.

Such language is found in most states criminal statutes, such as New Yorks, he said: In other words, the killing of a rapist may be legally justified even if the person using the deadly force made a mistake, providing the mistake was not unreasonable.

Brandon Combs with the Firearms Policy Coalition told Guns.com that AB 1192 gives extra-special gun rights to a select few while stepping on law-abiding gun owners who are denied possession of similar magazines for self-defense. The fact that the bill was brought by a Republican and passed by anti-gun Democrats says everything one needs to know about how deep the Sacramento swamp really goes, said Combs.

Further, Combs has concerns that the carve-out fails to pass constitutional muster, holding that it likely violates equal protection rights under both the state and federal constitutions as well as making potentially illegal changes to Prop. 63 gun control laws approved by voters in 2016.

Dwight Kay is at a loss to understand why so many lawmakers seem intent on taking away what he sees as a fundamental right of every citizen.

I dont see why were spending so much time in this state concentrating on taking away firearms from people, Kay told the Metro East Sun. I see Illinois doing nothing but making gun ownership more difficult for law-abiding citizens and it grieves me.

In 2010, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on McDonald vs. Chicago, which found the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms applies to all states through the Fourteenth Amendment.

Illinois State Rifle Association Executive Director Richard Pearson said its important the new justice be a strict constructionist who follows what the framers set out for in Second Amendment.

Pearson has said his group is involved in one case fighting suburban Deerfield's attempt to ban certain guns that it is prepared to take to the Supreme Court. The ban was put on hold last month when a Lake County circuit court put an injunction on the ordinance.

In a landmark case that has both First and Second Amendment implications, an entrepreneur from Texas got the federal government to concede that the software code used in the 3D printing of firearms is speech protected by the First Amendment, and now anyone can build a firearm in their home using his methods.

The entrepreneur, Cody Wilson, successfully test-fired the first 3D-printed gun at a range five years ago. Once his experiment succeeded, he uploaded the instructions as to how to replicate the production of the weapon to the internet.
