"On June 29, 2004, at 12:28 p.m., I flew on Northwest Airlines flight #327 from Detroit to Los Angeles with my husband and our young son. Also on our flight were 14 Middle Eastern men between the ages of approximately 20 and 50 years old. What I experienced during that flight has caused me to question whether the United States of America can realistically uphold the civil liberties of every individual, even non-citizens, and protect its citizens from terrorist threats."

"One screener asked to manually inspect one of my bags, knowing that I had nothing in it that was prohibited based on the TSA's own site I allowed the search. This inspector found a lighter that I was given by my step daughter for our first Father's Day together. It was a cigar lighter that did not run on Liquid Fuel, but gas. (Unabsorbed Liquid fueled lighters are prohibited based on the above PDF). He looked at it and exclaimed, 'Wow I have always wanted one like this'. Then proceeded to tell me that he had to confiscate my lighter." ...
"...do not carry anything in your carry on luggage that a TSA screener may want for him or herself as they can apparently steal any personal items they personally wish to own." |

" 'Excellent!' said GOA Director of Communications Erich Pratt. 'We're so glad to hear that you want to talk with us and help unite this nation. How about working with us to defend the Second Amendment to the Bill of Rights?' "
"Gun Owners of America notes that Sen. Kerry has not shown up for most of his Senate votes this year. However, Pratt said, 'He did fly into town this March -- specifically to ban several scores of semi-automatic firearms.' "
"GOA says Kerry's voting record on gun rights issues has been "consistently poor," and the group said it "looks forward to discussing these issues with his campaign. Gun Owners of America said it has contacted the Kerry campaign to take the candidate up on his offer." |

"Does the Second Amendment guarantee a right to states rather than an individual right to choose to own firearms? One clue to the answer is looking at who supports each position. The few law-review articles supporting the states'-right view all come from advocates, most of them employed by or associated with anti-gun groups." ...
"In fact, throughout the Bill of Rights and the Constitution the word 'right' is always used to refer to something individuals have and never used to refer to powers possessed by government. Such powers are always called 'power' or 'authority.' " |

Archer today said that, unless President Bush urges Congress to reauthorize the 1994 federal assault weapons ban, 'our communities will once again see an increase in senseless violence. We must ensure that the ban remains in effect for the sake of all law-abiding citizens.' " ...
"Archer said these weapons have no place on our streets. 'Since enactment of the ban,' he said, 'there has been a dramatic reduction in crimes committed with these prohibited firearms.' "
------- The above statement is patently false, as the number of crimes committed with said weapons was miniscule BEFORE the ban and rose slightly after the ban.

Two new charges have been added for a St. Paul police officer accused of supplying the gun used during a drive-by shooting at the home of a Hmong official's translator.
35-year-old Tou Cha now faces charges of terroristic threats and first-degree criminal damage to property. The eleven-year department veteran was charged earlier with second-degree assault involving a firearm.
Ramsey County Attorney Susan Gaertner said the investigation into the April 20 incident is continuing.
Investigators say they don't know who fired Cha's police handgun at the home of Xang Vang, a translator to Hmong leader General Vang Pao. But the charges allege the officer gave a cousin his gun on two occasions. |
