"It is the dark issue air travelers hope they never have to confront: a violent incident in flight -- and when and how to respond to it." ...
"But, as he indicated, not all flights carry air marshals."
"'You can't put them on every flight,' said Mark Bogosian, a first officer who crews Boeing 757-767s for a major U.S. airline. He said he knows that because flight crews are told when an air marshal is on board and who it is."
"'Unless law enforcement is on board, especially now with cockpit doors locked, the passengers and flight attendants are the first line of defense.' Bogosian said. 'If law enforcement is not on board and there's an incident, it is up to the flight attendants and the passengers.'" ... -------
Which is why law-abiding CCW license holding citizens should be allowed to carry.
KABA Note: To clarify, we, as an organization, absolutely oppose licensing as a prerequisite for exercising your constitutionally protected rights. Unfortunately, licensing and permitting is the reality in many states - a reality we hope will change. We do point out, however, that the current CCW holders are some of the most well-trained, capable and responsible people, and they pose no threat to the plane or its passengers. In the event of a hijacking, they and should be a viable line of defense. |

"The Soviet-made SKS rifle is probably the most worthless piece of military equipment ever produced. It isn't accurate at long ranges, so it isn't any good as a weapon of war or for a hunting rifle. As designed, it's only good for one thing close range killing."
"And, so many were made and are available that it can't even be considered a collector's item for serious gun collections."
"The SKS is the rifle believed used in the recent slayings of three Birmingham police officers and two police officers in Athens. It's powerful enough that a typical protective vest is ineffective."
------- FYI, so is your typical hunting rifle.

"District Attorney Eddie Wyant said Wednesday that he will not file criminal charges against a rural Quapaw man who shot and killed two of his neighbor's pit bulls."
"Rocky Joe Jones, 56, called the sheriff's office last week and reported that he had just shot and killed two pit bulls belonging to Parks D. Foster, 22. Both men and their families live near the intersection of East 60 and South 630 roads, east of Quapaw."
"In a statement to sheriff's deputies, Jones said he shot the dogs because they had attacked and critically injured a dog belonging to him on June 20. He said the animals were attacking a neighbor's dog when he shot them." |

"After thriving handsomely off the Second Amendment for decades, the National Rifle Association has decided to invoke the First Amendment and attempt a metamorphosis into a news media organization. It has begun a three-hour daily show on satellite radio to broadcast its anti-gun-control polemics in the name of legitimate news. This is a transparent device designed to circumvent the federal campaign law's strictures on unlimited advocacy at election time."
"Still, it's an intriguing idea. One story suggestion for the N.R.A. assignment editor: the landmark million-dollar court settlement won by two New Jersey police officers who were gravely wounded by a robber who got his handgun through one of the shabby weapon shops that deal with 'straw' buyers. These shoppers exploit the right to bear arms by buying them en masse and peddling them to the underworld. We urge a solid investigative series by the N.R.A.'s shame-on-you team to delve into the lethal history of these ostensibly licit dealers almost three out of five guns recovered in crimes are traced to such dealers. But so far, the N.R.A. has been content to run hard-hitting reports dismissing Senator John Kerry as two-faced, and sympathizing with a college student who resented getting only a C on a pro-gun essay in a philosophy class." |

"In his new movie, 'Fahrenheit 9/11,' film-maker Michael Moore makes the eye-popping claim that Saudi Arabian interests 'have given' $1.4 billion to firms connected to the family and friends of President George W. Bush. This, Moore suggests, helps explain one of the principal themes of the film: that the Bush White House has shown remarkable solicitude to the Saudi royals, even to the point of compromising the war on terror. When you and your associates get money like that, Moore says at one point in the movie, 'who you gonna like? Whos your Daddy?' "
"But a cursory examination of the claim reveals some flaws in Moores arithmeticnot to mention his logic. Moore derives the $1.4 billion figure from journalist Craig Ungers book, 'House of Bush, House of Saud.' Nearly 90 percent of that amount, $1.18 billion, comes from just one source: contracts in the early to mid-1990s that the Saudi Arabian government awarded to a U.S. defense contractor, BDM, for training the countrys military and National Guard. Whats the significance of BDM? The firm at the time was owned by the Carlyle Group, the powerhouse private-equity firm whose Asian-affiliate advisory board has included the presidents father, George H.W. Bush."
"Leave aside the tenuous six-degrees-of-separation nature of this 'connection.' The main problem with this figure, according to Carlyle spokesman Chris Ullman, is that former president Bush didnt join the Carlyle advisory board until April, 1998five months after Carlyle had already sold BDM to another defense firm. ..." |

"On Sept. 11, 2001, I stood across the Hudson River, watching the Twin Towers burn, knowing that if the plane had struck at 9:46 a.m. instead of 8:46 a.m., I would be dead. As a survivor and witness to the attack on the World Trade Center, I am more than insulted by this film. I am outraged. This film is based on conjecture, hearsay and propaganda. At a time when this country desperately needs to rally in support of our brave soldiers and our strong leaders, Moore is content to spread discord and divisiveness. The base of his argument is that the Bush administration had strong ties with the bin Laden family. However, sound facts are conspicuously absent from this 'documentary.' " |

"Following their participation in a Gay Pride parade, members of the Central Ohio Pink Pistols chapter-who were carrying sidearms openly, as allowed by the Ohio Constitution and recently affirmed by the state Supreme Court-were confronted by a contingent from Stonewall Columbus at Bicentennial Park. The group's leader demanded that they surrender their firearms. Prior to the parade, the Pink Pistols had been warned via e-mail by Stonewall Columbus Executive Director Kate Anderson, 'Should anyone bring a firearm (to) this Stonewall Columbus event, the firearm will be confiscated and not returned and the individual will be rejected from the event. I have notified all Pride Committee members and co-chairs and I will also alert all security personnel and the police.' "
" 'It is remarkable,' said CCRKBA Executive Director Joe Waldron in reaction to Anderson's message, 'that an organization which has fought bigotry against gays and lesbians would, itself, be so eager to practice social bigotry against members of its own community for merely exercising their constitutional right to bear arms.' "Parts of the state's new concealed-weapons law are unconstitutional and were written by 'idiots,' contends a gun-rights advocate who sued the state Wednesday."
"Stephen Miller, a lawyer and handgun instructor from Independence, sued in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court, asking a judge to strike down the law's language governing how guns may be carried in vehicles." "The law requires that when people licensed to carry concealed weapons get into a vehicle, they lock their guns in the glove compartment or a box, or wear them holstered 'in plain sight.' But the law doesn't define 'plain sight.' "
"That is a huge blind spot, Miller contends. A holstered gun, even if not covered by clothing or other obstruction, can be hard for a person outside a vehicle to see on someone in the driver's seat, he said. And without a clear definition, an otherwise legally armed motorist who gets pulled over by police is at the whim of the officer's or department's interpretation." |

TO REMEMBER |
Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom of Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any bands of regular troops that can be, on any pretense, raised in the United States. Noah Webster in "An Examination into the Leading Principles of the Federal Constitution," 1787, in Paul Ford, ed., Pamphlets on the Constitution of the United States, at p. 56 (New York, 1888). |
