While Wyoming has never regulated the open carry of a firearm, concealed carry was regulated and required a permit issued by the state. But not anymore. Wyomings Constitutional Carry bill went into effect today propelling Wyoming into the elite group of states that allow citizens to carry a concealed firearm without requiring a permit in order to do so.

However, the bill wisely preserves the existing permit system for those who wish to avail themselves of the benefits offered by the state issued permit such as ...

A Yakima police captain who was demoted last year for having sex with two female sergeants will be reinstated to his rank with back pay and benefits.

A Yakima police captain who was demoted last year for having sex with two female sergeants will be reinstated to his rank with back pay and benefits.

KAPP reports an arbitrator determined last month that the discipline against Rod Light was not warranted because the police policy at the time did not specifically prohibit the type of relationship he had with the sergeants.

The Yakima City Council decided Wednesday not to appeal the decision.

Mayor Micah Cawley says the policy has been revised to make it clear that sex between supervisors and subordinates is unacceptable.

A Central Precinct officer mistakenly shot a suspect with a live round instead of a less-lethal beanbag on Thursday morning. The man had reportedly been acting in an intimidating manner at a Southwest Portland park. Callers told police the man appeared intoxicated and armed with a knife.

The officer thought he was firing less-lethal beanbags at the suspect, who was not complying with police commands. In fact, the beanbag shotgun had been loaded with lethal shotgun rounds, Portland police said at 6 p.m. Thursday.

The suspect was hit by five pellets in the hip and was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening wounds, police said.

The officer who shot the rounds, a 15-year veteran, has been placed on paid administrative leave

Mayor Michael Bloomberg Wants to Take Away Your Guns Before Al Qaeda Gets Them

Mayor Michael Bloomberg and his little outfit Mayors Against Illegal Guns are at it again. Hoping to gain traction for what has heretofore been an absolutely pathetic gun control campaign, Bloomberg is rolling out all the stops by trying to scare us into thinking Al Qaeda agents are buying their guns at U.S. gun shows.

Im not kidding: Bloombergs latest television ad contains clips of an American-turned-Islamist advising his comrades to buy their weapons at U.S. gun shows.

The ad is very, very sloppy, and full of factual errors. Like when the Islamist says, You can go down to a gun show and come away with a fully-automatic assault rifle. Im sorry, but thats just not true.

The widows of two of four slain Lakewood police officers have filed a damages claim that accuses the Washington Department of Corrections of bungling its supervision of Maurice Clemmons.

"This was an offender from Arkansas who wanted to come to Washington. Washington agreed to take him, but as part of that agreement, Washington was supposed to supervise him and they didn't do that," attorney Jack Connelly told 97.3 KIRO FM's Ron and Don Show.

Listen to Jack Connelly's interview

Clemmons was eventually jailed and charged for raping a child and assaulting a police officer.

Connelly said while Clemmons was incarcerated, the state of Arkansas issued a warrant in October allowing him to be detained in jail until his trial.

IL: Illinois Under Pressure to Recognize Right of Self-defense

With Wisconsin only days away from being the 49th state to enact legislation that allows for the concealed carry of firearms, pressure is growing for Illinois to finally concede to its citizens the right of self-defense enshrined in the federal constitution.
Illinois Governor Pat Quinn (left) stopped a legislative initiative earlier this year that would have established a system of concealed carry permits when he threatened to veto any such bill that would have come to his desk. However, in the aftermath of the decisive action taken in late June in Wisconsins legislature, it is far from certain such a threatened veto by Gov. Quinn could succeed now.

In my first state House session, I fought for jobs, education, lower taxes, less spending, public health and safety, and other conservative issues; I also fought for Second Amendment rights for law-abiding citizens and I was a primary sponsor of the main Second Amendment bill.

Citizens with conceal carry permits should not be convicted if they place a carry-out order and forget to remove the firearm before picking up the food at a restaurant that serves alcohol. It is illegal for conceal carry permit holders to use drugs or alcohol while carrying.

Weapons linked to the federal governments controversial Fast and Furious gun-running sting have turned up at four crime scenes in Arizona in the communities of Glendale and Phoenix. The four guns are connected to drug cases in Phoenix and Glendale, Phoenix television station ABC 15 reported.

Fast and Furious backfired with deadly results, prompting calls for shake-ups at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and in the Justice Department. Under the program, ATF agents allowed weapons to flow across the border in a scheme targeting Mexican drug cartels.

A grandfather and his 8-year-old grandson may sue the county for being ordered out of their car at gunpoint on a rabbit-hunting trip earlier this month.

Las Cruces attorney Jeff Lahann is asking for unspecified damages for what he describes as "negligence, assault, battery, wrongful arrest, false imprisonment, abuse of process, negligent infliction of emotional distress and excessive use of force," according to a tort claim notice filed Thursday.

The county has a policy of not commenting on threatened or pending litigation, but the boy was reportedly "pointing a rifle outside of the car" in a residential area, an officer is heard saying in a dash-cam video recorded by the sheriff's office -- a claim Lahann disputes.

An American owner of a Porsche 911 decided to donate his car to charity in a remarkable and perhaps even quintessential American way.

After the engine and the entire cooling system of the German sportscar failed, the owner wasnt in the mood for the $ 20,000 repair job. It was concluded that the 911 was in no shape to be used in racing or sold off for parts. Therefore the owner decided to donate his car to a fundraiser event.

The 911 was sacrificed by the Commonwealth Second Amendment, a Massachusetts based non-profit dedicated to preserving and expanding the rights of gun owners in the northeast of the United States.

Lazarus is correct that conservatives and libertarians have been battling over legal ideas for the past few decades, but unless my calendar was printed incorrectly, District of Columbia v. Heller and McDonald v. Chicago, two landmark Supreme Court victories won by libertarian lawyers using libertarian legal arguments, both predate the Tea Party movement and its electoral success. In those two cases, the libertarians won by citing the text and history of the Second Amendment and the 14th Amendment, respectively. Since when is relying on the Constitutions explicit guarantees of individual liberty an example of anti-government activism?

Most reasonable people would process these facts and alarming lack of competence and conclude that the ATF needs less power and that the NRA should be commended for its vigilant pursuit of the truth surrounding the ATFs gun-running operation. But not The Post.

As for gun owner paranoia, there would be less reason for worry if The Post ceased its anti-Second Amendment campaign. After all, the paper railed against the Supreme Courts 2008 decision affirming Americans individual right to keep and bear arms, and it advocated for the draconian laws that robbed D.C. residents of their Second Amendment rights.

Canada: Course on guns changed my mind

Until a few weeks ago, the only things I knew about guns were from police reports and violent movies.

I had never picked one up, been near one or heard the echoes of shotgun blasts. And quite frankly, I was pretty afraid of them.

I know the Chinese invented gunpowder, but firearms have never been standard in my family.

In fact, guns have been the source of several heated arguments between my boyfriend Dave, who often heads home to Kincardine to shoot guns with his friend. They dont go hunting, but rather shoot targets puddles, broken TVs, frozen hams often with a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun. Its just what you did if you grew up in the country.

The Insidious Semantics of Gun Control

Gun Control advocates fall into only two categories: the Liars and the Ignorant.

There is no third category.

The Liars invent the lies. The Ignorant believe the lies and repeat them.

Truly fervent gun control advocates are quite often mentally ill. Their most common clinical symptoms, projection and denial, are barely below the surface.

Because they often entertain a warped contempt of other human beings, they dont trust themselves with guns, so they would prohibit firearms to all. They also entertain a primitive superstition about an inanimate object: Guns are bad! Guns kill people!

A Suffolk man was acquitted by a jury this week on malicious wounding charges.

Jimmie Lee Belcher Jr., 50, was found not guilty of two counts each of malicious wounding, using a firearm in the commission of a felony and shoot/stab in commission of a felony.

Belcher was accused of shooting two men on Ben Street in the early morning hours of Sept. 26. But the jury agreed with the argument of Belchers attorney, who contended he shot in self-defense.

Not so much. If you take a look at those Court decisions, they offer up a great deal to be critical of. In Heller vs District of Columbia, the Court said that some control measures were fine. All that decision did was prevent an outright ban like DC had before the decision. However, New York Citys laws are well clear of that. Youre allowed to carry a gunif you can get an extremely hard to obtain license. No total ban there.

The battle to protect our Second Amendment rights is far from over, so we must remain vigilent. We must also continue the debate or else find ourselves suddenly shut out of the conversation.

The NFL prohibits fans from carrying guns into any stadium. However, they could be prohibited from enforcing their own policy on Lambeau Field. The NFL doesn't own the stadium, therefore can't impose their anti-gun policy. Pat Webb, the stadium's executive director, stated, "I don't know enough about Wisconsin's specific law to know if the stadiums are exempt or not or can be exempt."

I couldn't imagine some murderous incident occurring at Lambeau Field. Then again, fools flock around the country. No one would have predicted Columbine High School. Foolish things happen when anger persists.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich on Thursday signed a bill into law that gun owners will probably love, especially those who have permits that afford them the luxury of having concealed weapons.

The Republican, who was last seen on the links with President Obama and House Speaker John Boehner, approved the measure that allows gun owners in the Buckeye State to bring their concealed weapons into establishments that serve alcohol, as well as into licensed establishments including shopping malls, nightclubs and sporting venues.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. John Stuart Mills
