A road trip down old Route 66 led to a Wild West-style motel shootout for a pioneering CNN anchor and her former-soldier hubby.

Lynne Russell the first woman to ever solo-anchor a primetime network news show and Chuck de Caro, 65, had stopped at a Motel 6 for the night in Albuquerque when an intruder slipped into their room

When the thug grabbed a briefcase and began firing at him, De Caro shot back as Russell ducked behind a piece of furniture.

De Caro was shot twice in the abdomen and once in the leg but managed to kill the gunman with his return fire. The intruder fled the motel room and collapsed in the parking lot, where cops later found him.

After the altercation, the woman who lives at the location went to a neighbor's house and told them she had shot a man after he had assaulted her and threatened her with a gun, said Bobo.

According to Bobo, the gun the woman used to shoot the man was recovered from the neighbors house upon investigation. The man was found to be holding another gun prior to his transport to the hospital.

Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office investigators and the Solicitor's Office are continuing their investigation; at this time it appears the female resident acted in self-defense against the dead man, according to Bobo.

Short-barrel shotguns are now legal for purchase in Indiana.

The new law takes effect Wednesday and allows Indiana manufacturers to make shotguns with barrels 18-inches long or less. It also allows for these guns to be sold in the state.

Indiana lawmakers approved the law earlier this year, and it brings the state into line with federal laws.

Defense Distributedthe company run by 3D-printing provocateur Cody Wilsonand the Second Amendment Foundation this week filed their Reply to Defendants Opposition to Plaintiffs Motion for Preliminary Injunction.

This case is important in pushing back against government attempts to shut up open discussion of technical details of weapons making on the Internet or elsewhere, a case that implicates both our First Amendment rights to speak and publish and our Second Amendment rights for meaningful access to weapons of self-defense.

When they arrived on the scene, they found 25-year-old Ryan DeAngelis with a fatal gunshot wound. Police say DeAngelis was arguing with his roommate, Jeffery Zach Taylor and that argument escalated into a gun fight with multiple shots fired.

Silverhill Police Chief Kim Wasdin said, while it is clear based on the evidence officers have gathered so far that the fatal gunshot was fired by Taylor, Silverhill PD has no plans to file charges against Taylor and has not ruled out the possibility of self-defense.

The Missouri Supreme Court has upheld a constitutional amendment that broadened gun rights in the state.

Voters approved Amendment 5 in August 2014 with 61 percent of the vote. It made the right to own firearms, ammunition and other accessories in the state "unalienable," and said any form of gun control should be subject to "strict scrutiny." The amendment also allowed the open carrying of guns.

A Rice Township police report about the June 20 incident says the officer, walking to the area where the gunfire was coming from along Church Road, had his hand on his holstered weapon, but never drew the gun as he repeatedly shouted police.

As the officer approached, Taney became very irate, yelling that he was doing nothing wrong and knew his rights, the report says.

Taney was target shooting into a densely wooded area behind his house. The officer checked with the township police chief, who told him no crime was being committed and there was nothing he could do unless Taney was shooting in an unsafe manner. No charges were filed.

On Thursday, June 26, the Rhode Island General Assembly adjourned from their 2015 Legislative Session.

Neither Senate Bill 503 nor Senate Bill 520 advanced out of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Gun owners in the Ocean State can rest easy knowing that all anti-gun legislation introduced this session was held in committee for further study.

Thank you to all NRA members and Second Amendment supporters for your active involvement throughout the 2015 legislative session.

Another book that received the Common Core stamp of approval informs students that the Second Amendment grant[s] citizens the right to bear arms as members of a militia of citizen-soldiers.

NBC News is touting a shocking new study about gun ownership in the United States which seems designed to see what sort of generalizations they can draw about people who exercise their Second Amendment rights. (And perhaps to give an idea of where theyd need to go to grab them all if that became possible.) Published by something called Injury Prevention, the numbers will be shocking to anyone who has never paid any attention to this subject.

One bill that was passed in 2014 but didn't take effect until this year requires Oklahoma court clerks to notify the FBI when a person is adjudicated mentally incompetent or involuntarily committed due to a mental illness. The notice, which also includes the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, is for the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) database, which gun dealers must check before selling a firearm.

"I'm a strong supporter of the Second Amendment, and I think something that undergirds our ability to keep and bear arms is to make sure those people who should not have them or who are a danger to themselves or to society don't have access to firearms," said Sen. Greg Treat, R-Oklahoma City, who wrote the law.

Here is how Ive applied it to L.D. 652, An Act To Authorize the Carrying of Concealed Handguns without a Permit. Amended to allow service members older than 18 to carry concealed guns, the bill has passed the Legislature and is expected to be signed by Gov. Paul LePage.

Even though L.D. 652 is on its way to becoming law, I believe it is still worthwhile and important to take a stand regarding this issue in the broader sense of gun regulation in Maine.

And Trevor Burrus, Research Fellow at Cato, warned, If proponents want to bring a case on concealed carry and cite the Obergefell opinion, they are free to [But] gay marriage [doesnt] automatically convey a right to concealed carry in 50 states. Moreover, by using these spurious arguments, advocates harm the overall movement for gun rights. Bad arguments can create bad precedents that could impair the expansion of the right to self defense.

Its always an exciting time when a gap is filled within the gun industry. Pistol caliber carbines are ever gaining in popularity, so it was just a matter of time before someone found a way to make an AK work in 9mm. With the exception of Frankensteined guns, which are a melting pot of many different parts, 9mm AKs were unheard of simply because of reliability issues. I can honestly say that the Definitive Arms AKX-9 does not suffer from unreliability. In fact, after throwing several hundred rounds down range, I didnt have a single malfunction.

Whether to capitalize on a tragedy for political purposes, or because their urge to do something isnt tempered by a sense of reality, Senators Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) and Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) reacted to the deplorable murders at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina, last week by saying that they may reintroduce so-called universal background check legislation to require background checks on private sales and trades of firearms, including those between many family members and friends.
