Over 90% of Americans out and about outside their homes travel unarmed. The minority (but there are millions) who carry concealed weapons for self defense purposes out in public face many potential problems.
The big one is that the odds are that the person (persons) who attacks them or threatens them may or may not be armed, or if they are armed the weapon is possibly concealed, in defending oneself they must establish if their attacker or potential attacker is armed or not (He could be licensed to carry as they are). |

Pennsylvania topped 1 million guns sold or transferred legally in 2020, hitting the seven-figure mark for the first time.
It took just one year to do it again.
Total figures for gun deals as well as concealed carry licenses issued have never been higher. Demand had been building over at least two decades but suddenly surged in 2020.
That year saw the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, national protests and civil unrest against police brutality and racism, and a presidential election cycle steeped in misinformation helping further sow political divisions in the U.S. |

California, which already has some of the nations toughest gun laws, has added new restrictions on untraceable ghost guns and on marketing firearms to minors, Gov. Gavin Newsom said Friday.
As the Supreme Court rolls back important gun safety protections and states across the country treat gun violence as inevitable, California is doubling down on commonsense gun safety measures that save lives, Newsom said in a statement announcing that he had signed the two bills a day earlier.
Ghost guns, the privately made weapons without serial numbers, are increasingly being tied to violent crimes. Their proliferation has prompted President Joe Bidens administration to come up with new regulations to crack down on them.

Last Friday night, just hours after Atty. Gen. Rob Bonta told California law agencies that good cause is no longer required to carry a concealed handgun, two women were wounded in the crossfire of rival groups arguing in the Gaslamp.
Its unlikely that these innocent victims were carrying concealed weapons. But even if they were, its not likely they would have known to pull their weapons in self-defense.
Their fates will likely become increasingly common throughout California as more and more people carry concealed weapons thanks to the U.S Supreme Courts decision throwing out a century-old New York law. |

Association of Mature American Citizens (AMAC), is disappointed by the enactment of the gun control provisions of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act as into law by the President. We believe these provisions of the new law undermine Americans fundamental Constitutional rights, including the Second Amendment protection of our right to bear arms and due process to challenge adverse actions by government denying the right to acquire, possess, and carry firearms. This legislation was irresponsibly rammed through the Senate and the House in the last few days and without hearings and meaningful public discourse, debate, and deliberation. |

Biden lied when he stated the original assault weapons ban worked, knowing it didnt use Bill Clintons own D.O.J. figures. When the original ban went into effect, murder rates didnt fail any measurable degree. When the ban expired there wasnt any noticeable spike in murders. Then, why enact another useless assault weapons ban?
Biden lied, stating when the constitution was written it wasnt legal to own a cannon. Actually, back then, many citizens had legally owned cannons. Biden fibbed when he claimed the second amendment or no amendment is absolute. The U.S. Supreme Court, in the Heller decision, ruled the second amendment absolute. |

One of the favorite guns in my collection is a 22 caliber revolver that was previously owned by my father in law. He carried it on his hip as he traveled through the pine forests of northern Arizona, and its a great example of whats called a kit gun, A kit gun can be best thought of as something you carry in addition to your long gun when youre out hunting, camping or hiking. Its not meant to be a backup to your main rifle or shotgun. Rather, its there to take small game, plink at targets in the campsite or serve as a self-defense gun if necessary. |

New York state passed a law on Friday banning guns from many public places, including Times Square, and requiring gun-license applicants to prove their shooting proficiency and submit their social media accounts for review by government officials.
The law, passed in an emergency legislative session, was forced by a landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling last week that struck down New York's restrictive gun-license laws. The court's conservative majority ruled for the first time that the U.S. Constitution grants an individual the right to carry weapons in public for self-defense. |

Last month, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a decision that significantly undermines an important New Jersey law that has kept our residents from the threat of gun violence for decades. Make no mistake: by dramatically expanding the number of New Jersey residents who will be permitted to carry a firearm, the majority of the Court is enabling violence in our communities.
But despite this reckless decision, a wide range of tools remain available to us to protect our residents from the epidemic of gun violence. As the states chief law enforcement officer, I am committed to using them. |

Now, what they're doing with this action today up in Albany is targeting the law-abiding New Yorker. I don't think they're making New York more safe; they're making New York less safe. They're creating these locations as targets because now, as a criminal, if you wanted to carry out one of your acts of targeting someone with an illegal firearm, you know that you're likely to encounter less resistance because the only people who care about these laws passed today are the law-abiding citizens. |

Overshadowed by the huge decision on abortion was another case, in which the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Americans have a right to carry firearms in public for self-defense.
A conservative think tank from Ohio had filed paperwork in that case and is pleased with the ruling.
The Buckeye Institute filed a friend of the court brief in the case of a 100-year-old New York law on carrying concealed weapons. Former Senate President Larry Obhof, a Republican, filed that brief.
"What we were interested in doing was presenting a few arguments to the U.S. Supreme Court that they might not have otherwise considered," Obhof said in an interview for "The State of Ohio." |

As of Friday, Hoosiers are no longer required to obtain a permit to carry a handgun.
House Bill 1296, which was passed in March this year and went into effect on July 1, repealed sections of Indiana code that require Indiana residents to obtain handgun licenses.
Proponents of the permitless carry law say it is an important expansion of gun rights. They say it protects legal gun owners' privacy by cutting out application and fingerprint requirements to receive a permit.
Mason Shafer, a Logansport native and certified gunsmith, said he celebrated House Bill 1296 being passed. |

The Lansing and Mason gun and knife show is in town for the weekend.
The Supreme Court ruled last week that Americans have a right to carry firearms in public. They stated their ruling was a matter of self defense.
Its definitely a big win for everybody, said gun owner Jake Herschfus.
Supporters of the ruling said this helps secure the right to own guns, while those opposed want fewer guns on the street.
Local gun owners said the ruling helps everyone. |

Georgia Congressman Andrew Clyde (GA-09) and 53 cosponsors introduced last month the RETURN our Constitutional Rights Act, which would eliminate the federal excise tax on firearms and ammunition. (RETURN stands for Repealing Excise Tax on Unalienable Rights Now.)
This tax, first imposed by the Pittman-Robertson Act of 1937, generates hundreds of millions of dollars every year to fund the conservation and land access efforts of state wildlife agencies. Rep. Clyde said he wants to repeal this funding because the tax infringes on Second Amendment rights. |

Maybe youve wondered how much innocent blood needed to get spilled to finally convince Senate Republicans that gun violence has spiraled out of control, and we need to do something. The back-to-back mass shootings in Buffalo and Uvalde gave us the unhappy answer.
One month later Congress presented President Joe Biden with a modest bipartisan gun bill to sign into law.
The new law is an excruciatingly small step, and even that was immediately overshadowed by the giant leap backward when the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a more than 100-year old New York handgun permit law. |

When I listen to the cacophony of irate liberals remonstrating against the Supreme Court's decision on gun control, I'm reminded once again that they are not on the side of law-abiding people.
Basically, what the Supremes did in this ruling is give people the constitutional right to defend themselves in a country that has become consumed by violent predators. The left, whose members like to refer to themselves as "progressives," has shown no progress in protecting innocent people from the well armed savages who have taken over the streets of numerous cities. |

The Supreme Court followed up its June 23 landmark ruling that for the first time recognized a constitutional right to carry firearms in public for self-defense, by issuing a series of rulings June 30 reversing federal appeals court decisions that upheld gun restrictions in California, New Jersey, Maryland, and Hawaii.
Courts will find it difficult to uphold the firearms laws in question after the high courts June 30 and June 23 rulings.
In unsigned orders, all four cases were remanded June 30 to lower courts for further consideration in light of the Supreme Courts June 23 decision in New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen. |

A week after the Supreme Court issued monumental rulings loosening restrictions on carrying guns and overturning the constitutional right to abortion, New York enacted sweeping measures designed to blunt the decisions effects.
In an extraordinary session convened by Gov. Kathy Hochul that began Thursday and carried late into Friday evening, the State Legislature adopted a new law placing significant restrictions on the carrying of handguns and passed an amendment that would initiate the process of enshrining the right to abortion in the state constitution. |

Bruen was tectonic, said Scott Bach, executive director of the Association of New Jersey Rifle & Pistol Clubs. Every law is not going to be vulnerable under this, but many will. And it hopefully will force lawmakers to be more responsible and more focused in the laws that they pass.
Bach said his association is scrutinizing other New Jersey gun regulations they can target to overturn now that Bruen has strengthened the Second Amendment and opened the door to such challenges.
He also expects challenges will be made to gun control legislation New Jersey lawmakers passed just this week, as well as other bills not as far along in the political pipeline. |

The government must demonstrate that the regulation is consistent with this Nations historical tradition of firearm regulation, Justice Clarence Thomas wrote in the majority opinion that struck down New York restrictions on who gets to carry a concealed weapon. Only if a firearm regulation is consistent with this Nations historical tradition may a court conclude that the individuals conduct falls outside the Second Amendments unqualified command.
Thomas opinion in the gun case lays out an originalist framework for deciding if concealed-carry regulations violate the Second Amendment. This means that gun laws in 2022 would violate the Constitution unless they are analogous to gun laws in the 1790s. |

A lawsuit filed in D.C. could mean more guns in more places, coming on the heels of a Supreme Court ruling that Americans have a right to carry firearms in public for self-defense.
Gun rights activists are suing the District in federal court, demanding the right to carry concealed handguns on Metro trains and buses. It could be just the start of a wave of changes around the nation limiting gun regulations.
Spot Tyler Yzaguirre on the street, and you're not likely to notice the slight bulge just under his coat. Yzaguirre is one of the thousands of civilians now licensed to conceal carry handguns in DC.

Bruen has destroyed that compromise. After Bruen, all jurisdictions that require licenses to carry firearms must do so on a "shall issue" basis. And the result is predictable: legislatures in "may issue" states are scrambling to ban guns from as many locations as possible, including government buildings, stadiums, theaters, parks, financial institutions, public transportation, and restaurants. Most devastatingly for gun owners, New York is trying to ban firearms on all private property at which the property owner does not post a sign welcoming firearms. New York Governor Kathy Hochul, when asked where permit holders would be allowed to carry weapons, candidly replied, "Probably some streets." |
