"The Following is an up to the minute report from Julianne Versnel, Director of Operations for the Second Amendment Foundation who is representing SAF as an NGO delegate at the United Nations ATT meeting."

"The Arms Trade Treaty Prep Committee began on July 12, 2010 and will conclude on July 23, 2010. Ambassador Roberto Garcia Moritan of Argentina is the Chair. On Friday, July 19, Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) representatives were told that the majority of the meetings would be closed to them. The critical discussions on the scope of the treaty will have no input from any non-governmental entity. Scope is critical in the Arms Trade Treaty process. ..." ...

... "In America Fights Back: Armed Self-Defense in a Violent Age, we mixed data and statistics with accounts of actual self-defense incidents to tell a story that is almost uniquely American. Elsewhere around the world, armed self-defense is either unheard of or can get you tossed in prison. The other day in Ireland, new legislation was passed that turns this scenario around, and Irish police officials appear to be lauding the change."

"In a few states including New Jersey people need a license to even get a firearm to keep at home, and the police may deny such a license if they think the person poses a danger to others. This isnt limited to getting concealed carry licenses; it applies to having a gun in the first place. And it isn't limited to people who have been convicted of a felony or a violent misdemeanor, or even to people who have been found by a preponderance of the evidence to have committed or threatened violent acts (that's the standard usually used for domestic restraining orders)."

"As an American, I owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to many, many people who have risked and given their lives to defend our liberty. But as I reflect on the recent Supreme Court decision in McDonald v. City of Chicago, I thought I should take a moment to mention four Americans who have made a relatively uncelebrated contribution to the freedom I cherish and enjoy. I owe a special debt to four black men, and one gun." ...

"If firearms were indeed as inherently dangerous as gun control advocates suggest, there should be millions of crimes, murders, suicides, and accidents involving firearms each year, and those numbers should be escalating since the total number of firearms and firearms owners have risen substantially over the past few years."

"In reality, numbers of firearms related crime and accidents have steadily dropped while gun sales have gone through the roof and more states have liberalized laws dealing with the carry of arms in public. Independent, peer reviewed studies show that firearms are used 5 times more often to stop crime than to commit crime ..." ...

"Six Republicans opposed Kagan, with only turncoat Lindsey Graham of South Carolina voting to confirm the anti-gunner."

... "Whether one agrees with its decisions or not and when it comes to this issue I dont the Supreme Court has now settled the questions surrounding the Second Amendment, ruling that it is an individual right to bear arms. Although it has long been a whipping-horse for the Right, the ACLU has a long tradition of defending conservative causes because their fealty to the Constitution is principled rather than strategic. So, naturally, its increasingly defending gun owners Constitutional rights now that the issue is settled law." ...

Now, my day job involves a lot more time in court than that of most folks, and in a few decades of that, this particular gambit has always struck me as something like a jump-spinning back kick in a karate tournament. "When the Supreme Court made its latest ruling in favor of the Second Amendment recently, it was widely thought that it would trigger lawsuits against existing laws that restrict firearms ownership."

"New York was a logical target. Pistol permits in New York are state licenses but are administered at the county level, by judges. If a county judge doesn't want to issue unrestricted (concealed carry) permits, he or she simply refuses. Others may limit the permits only to those citizens who show a need or 'good cause.'"

"For instance, the Senate race in Nevada, with Democrat Sen. Harry Reid challenged by outspoken conservative Sharron Angle, might not be as clear-cut a choice as you'd think. As one editor from Nevada put it, 'A lot of people, including Democrats, don't really like Harry Reid, and some of Angle's comments have been blown out of proportion. Murphy's uncensored, darkly disturbing observations and behavior following his Code-3 arrival at the rural home of longtime SLO County resident Matt Hart were picked up by Murphy's and other deputies own recorders.  QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Without freedom there will be no firearms among the people; without firearms among the people there will not long be freedom. Certainly there are examples of countries where the people remain relatively free after the people have been disarmed, but there are no examples of a totalitarian state being created or existing where the people have personal arms. Neal Knox
