?Acknowledging that questions such as 'What part of shall not be infringed" dont you understand?' and 'Where in the Constitution do you or Congress presume to get the authority to enforce any kind of "gun control"?' would be valid comments from the perspective of founding intent, Gun Rights Examiner nonetheless feels compelled to pass this information along to inform readers of this development, and to give those whose activities are impacted -- admittedly a relatively small (but important) segment of gun owners -- a heads-up to voice their concerns." |

On Jan. 4 of last year, a local narcotics strike force conducted a raid on the Ogden, Utah, home of Matthew David Stewart at 8:40 p.m. The 12 officers were acting on a tip from Mr. Stewart's former girlfriend, who said that he was growing marijuana in his basement. Mr. Stewart awoke, naked, to the sound of a battering ram taking down his door. Thinking that he was being invaded by criminals, as he later claimed, he grabbed his 9-millimeter Beretta pistol. The police say that they knocked and identified themselves, though Mr. Stewart and his neighbors said they heard no such announcement. Mr. Stewart fired 31 rounds, the police more than 250. Six of the officers were wounded, and Officer Jared Francom was killed. |

I do not make these things up. This is from the Hunterdon County Sheriffs Office in New Jersey. Since NJ is not known to be gun friendly, no mention is made of buying or using a gun. Most of the suggestions involve avoiding going any place that may put you in jeopardy and pretty much hoping that you will not be killed. In no case is self defense advised which pretty much is the way some parents are raising their kids these days. This is the theme in NYC and other anti gun places. You should lock yourself in your home, do not go anyplace where there may be criminals (does such a place exist?) and if faced with a crime, offer no resistance. I call this the run home and tell mommy defense. |

A standoff with a police SWAT team ended peacefully Saturday morning when the suspect surrendered outside his parents home in Hawthorne. The incident began with a phone call at 9:05 a.m. to borough police by the parents of Michael Cahill, 38, who said their son had broken into their home and was threatening to injure himself.
Submitter's comment: 911 Operator: Your son is threatening to injure himself? That will never do! Hold on and we'll send a SWAT team with an armored personnel carrier to evacuate the neighborhood. Why? Don't ask stupid questions! We do it because we can and the boys need the overtime! |

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's organization, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, released a new ad Saturday, urging lawmakers to act on gun control on the one year anniversary of the Aurora, Colo. movie theatre shooting. The ad features a survivor of the shooting recalling what happened that night when gun shots were fired at the midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises." The one-minute video started airing Saturday in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire and Washington, D.C. |

More than six months after New Yorks sweeping crackdown on gun and ammunition purchases, money from supporters and opponents is still pouring into the chief combatants in the debate, though for very different purposes. New Yorkers for Gun Safety, a state Democratic Party political action committee ostensibly controlled by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, raised $408,000 in just 30 days, according to campaign filings made public this week. That is considered a hefty sum by Albany standards even more so because donations to policy causes typically dry up once a policy matter has been decided at the Capitol. |

People who fire guns at drones are endangering the public and property and could be prosecuted or fined, the Federal Aviation Administration warned Friday.
The FAA released a statement in response to questions about an ordinance under consideration in the tiny farming community of Deer Trail, Colo., that would encourage hunters to shoot down drones. The administration reminded the public that it regulates the nations airspace, including the airspace over cities and towns. |

"Ahead of Saturday's anniversary of the rampage, gun control activists staged a vigil on Friday at a Colorado park. They are reading the names of thousands of gun violence victims from across the country, ending at 12:38 p.m. local time on Saturday, the moment gunfire erupted in the theater."
Anyone else wonder why they never list the names of those whose lives were saved by guns? They do not even keep records on it nor is anyone really concerned with doing so. It would not serve the anti gun crowd's purposes to have a longer list of lives saved than dead. The anti gun crowd seems to define survivors as only those saved by the illegal use of a gun.

The George Zimmerman verdict in Florida has reignited an old debate: How far can you go in defending yourself in America?
In 30 states, including Pennsylvania, "Stand Your Ground" laws are on the books.
But they're under fire from high places in the wake of the July 13 acquittal of Mr. Zimmerman, 29, a neighborhood watch volunteer, in the February 2012 shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, who was walking through the gated townhouse community where he was staying. |

So, what exactly do Stand Your Ground laws have to do with Zimmerman and Martin? Absolutely nothing. Outside your own home, common principles of self-defense dictate that unless you have reasonable fear of deadly force or harm, you must flee if possible rather than use deadly force. But a duty to retreat rests on the ability to retreat. And duty to retreat was irrelevant in Zimmerman's case because pinned to the ground with Martin on top of him, bashing his head on the concrete he was unable to retreat. |

On Sunday, the group of about 50 people assembled in the parking lot of NAACP Alaska's offices at Third Avenue and Cordova Street downtown, many wearing hoodies in the heat, symbolically dressing like Martin on the night he was killed by Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer.
Speakers talked about the need to discuss the thorny issue of race, disparities in the criminal justice system and growing suspicion of House Bill 24, Alaska's own version of the "Stand Your Ground" law. |

A recent lawsuit by Florida Carry, Inc., has renewed calls for the state to reconsider its ban on open carry, which allows a firearms owner to carry a pistol in a holster visible to the public and law enforcement.
While I am an open-carry proponent, I think it is time to at least start the discussion on a larger, broader step - Constitutional Carry.
Constitutional Carry occurs when the government gets out of the firearms regulation business. It's also known as permitless-carry. |

Later in his letter, Murphy insists that the ATT does nothing to affect Americans right to bear arms and that is sole aim is to only control the export and import of weapons from one nation to another.
Murphy is wrong. There is much in the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty directly interferes with domestic gun sales, as well as with the entire philosophy behind the Second Amendments protection of the right to keep and bear arms.
As we have reported, several provisions of this treaty significantly diminish the scope of the right to keep and bear arms. |

Gun-toting New Yorkers say they will generate enough voters to defeat the far left agenda proposed by Democratic Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo.
We are seeing a backlash from the governors urban-oriented base, said New York State Assemblyman Pete D. Lopez (R.- Schoharie).
From the start, Cuomo calculated his positions to please two types of voters for two different reasons, he said. Cuomo does not need rural-conservative votes to win a statewide election, but he did want to show principled governance so that he could run for president. |

Here's one more thing that parents of Internet-savvy, risk-taking teens should take heed of: construction of homemade blowgun darts and the risk of accidentally inhaling the projectiles. Physicians in the August issue of Pediatrics, published online today, report that in three separate, recent cases, teen boys attempting to get a big breath to propel the darts, inhaled the metallic, needle-shaped objects, which lodged in their lower airway.

There was no mistaking which group at Burchfield Park was advocating for gun rights. All you had to do was look at their belts.
Gun owners were encouraged to carry their holstered handguns to a picnic and barbecue in Holt, to show that gun owners are a part of the community too.
"What we do by open carrying is just let people know that yes people do support the second amendment still and it's still front and center in our community," said Adam Yancer, Vice President of Michigan Open Carry. "And so people understand good guys carry guns too. |

Ocean Springs Mayor Connie Moran's response to Mississippi's open carry law is an ordinance to bar firearms on city property.
She's far from anti-gun.
"I am certainly in favor of second amendment rights. I myself have a gun, and I'm a pretty good shot, but I wouldn't bring it to city hall," she told WLOX-TV (http://bit.ly/15wDKyR ).
She says she thinks a majority of the board would agree that it's not appropriate for citizens to have weapons in city hall, during board meetings, in courtrooms, at the police station, or at ball parks. |

Obamas Friday remarks were divisive, not as the Washington Post and other liberal media are saying some effort to bring calm. Obama made his usual effort to sound reasonable, saying that the trial was conducted in a professional manner, the defense and prosecution made their arguments and the jury rendered a verdict. Thats how our system works, he said.
But then he wanted to put the verdict in context, he said, so he went on: |

Iowa lawmakers may reconsider a stand your ground law during next years legislative session. Rep. Matt Windschitl, R-Missouri Valley, reportedly has plans to reintroduce such legislation next year.
The recent trial of George Zimmerman has reignited a national debate over the value of such laws, which allow individuals to forcibly defend themselves in lieu of retreating, even when retreating from danger is a viable option.
Iowas current self-defense laws are sufficient; the states legislators should not pursue a stand-your-ground law. |

Despite an outcry from civil rights groups, a call for close examination by President Barack Obama and even a 1960s-style sit-in at the Florida governors office, the jurys verdict that George Zimmerman was justified in shooting unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin is unlikely to spur change to any of the nations stand-your-ground self-defense laws.
I support stand your ground, Republican Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer said last week.
I do not see any reason to change it, said Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal, also a Republican. |
