But it's important to consider the context and reasons why women are buying more guns. According to The Huffington Post, women are far more likely to be murdered by men (we see you with no data, Florida). Every day in the U.S., three or more women are killed by their boyfriends or husbands. From 2003 to 2012, 65 percent of violent crimes against women were committed by someone they knew; nearly a third of all women murdered in the U.S. were killed by a male intimate partner. In 2011 alone, of those women murdered by men in their lives, 53 percent were shot to death. It is clear that men are killing women, and it's a problem. Men are killing women they know and are intimately involved with, and they are killing them with guns.

When bad men try to hurt people, its up to good men and women to stand up and stop them.

The state legislatures top Democrat, Minority Leader Jim Ananich, wants to spin that simple truth on its head.

Under legislation he sponsored alongside a trio of other ultra-liberal Democrats in the state Senate, Senate Bill 611, when bad men try to hurt people, itd be up to good men and women to run and hide.

In early June, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled en banc that the state of California had acted legally when it all but excised the word bear from the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. The decision was a major blow to gun owners in the countrys most populous state, and a slap in the face to a Supreme Court that has affirmed that the right of the people to keep and bear arms must not be treated as a second-class or optional protection.

n response to the recent tragedies in Dallas and Baton Rouge, former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder called on law enforcement officers to join in advocating for stricter gun control laws.

It is far past time for those of you in law enforcement to join with other responsible Americans and take on the mindless, industry-driven gun lobby that values an illogical individual ability to possess military-grade weapons more than the lives of the American people, in general, and our law enforcement personnel, in particular. Speak up,said Holder.

Clinton, who has way more cash on hand than Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, has been outspending the New York real estate mogul at a rate of 15-1 but has seen her lead shrink to single digits in certain key states.

According to The Hill, senior Democrats met with Clinton in DC on Monday and mentioned a recent Florida poll that showed Trump pulling ahead in the Sunshine State. They questioned whether Clinton was really running her campaign effectively, having spent about $47 million in television ads.

Trump himself has spent next to nothing. A few SuperPACs and the NRA have run around $3 million in anti-Clinton ads, focusing only on her position on the Second Amendment.

The descriptions, however, include qualifying characteristics such as brackets to attach bayonets, folding or telescoping stocks, pistol grips, and bottom-fed magazines. One of the listed characteristics is the presence of a small attachment on the muzzle of weapons like the militarys M-16, which are intended to suppress the burning blast of hot gases that push a projectile out the end of the barrel. Manufacturers have produced versions of assault weapons without the flash suppressor, and marketed them as Massachusetts compliant. With enough sly modifications that do nothing to reduce the weapons lethality, the law could be rendered utterly impotent.

Ed.: Only in MA could complying with the law be illegal.

Duke's release said that a minivan sped away after that. Also in the surveillance footage, the suspect was seen looking into windows and trying to go into the garage. The homeowner went to the front lawn armed with a handgun and advised him to leave the property.

The homeowner called 911 to tell them about the situation. He told deputies the man sat on the street curb until he was picked up by a Jeep Wrangler.

"We support homeowners right to self-defense, but are thankful this homeowner made an informed and deliberate decision not to discharge his weapon," Duke said.

When caught, the suspect may face misdemeanor charges.

The National Rifle Association said Wednesday it was concerned about headwinds facing pro-gun candidates in upcoming Senate elections but remains confident in its decision to support Donald Trump against Hillary Clinton in the presidential election.

After delivering his speech to the Republican National Convention, the head of the NRAs lobbying arm, Chris Cox, said the gun rights group was concerned about the state of the upcoming Senate elections. Its changing, he said. Some days are better. Some days are worse.

Theres certainly a headwind that we face, he added.

If youve been watching the Republican National Convention, youve probably seen the NRAs Freedoms Safest Place commercials.

Theyre powerful, honest defenses of freedom that are making a real impact and inspiring millions of Americans. If you are among them, or if you support our Second Amendment rights, you can help the NRA keep these commercials on national television during this crucial time by donating to NRA Speaks For Me. The campaign asks Second Amendment supporters to back the NRA in its fight against the corrupt medias false portrayal of law-abiding Americans who believe in the right to defend themselves and their families with a firearm.

Gabby Giffords and Mark Kelly have decided that gun control needs rebranding. Apparently admitting that gun ownership and rights are a fundamental part of American culture, they and their political action committee, Americans for Responsible Solutions, are now working to present an argument about saving lives while respecting what they call responsible use of firearms. According to members of ARS and others who gathered recently to change the language of the debate, the best appeal they have is that with freedom comes responsibility.

Idaho gun rights activists protested the appearance of Hollywood actor Matt Damon here Wednesday, shortly before a premiere of Jason Bourne, Damons latest motion picture.

Damon got the red carpet treatment outside Meridians Village Cinema early Wednesday evening before a multitude of adoring fans, many holding up cellphone cameras.

But protesters at an earlier off-site, street corner event organized by the Idaho Second Amendment Alliance gave Damon a thumbs-down for gun rights views the actor recently expressed in Australia, said the alliances President Greg Pruett.

This is not about taking away Second Amendment Rights; it is about sensible gun legislation that puts laws in place that serve the well-being of all of us, not just the profits of gun makers. We need fewer congressional moments of silence on the anniversary of Sandy Hook and more laws removing assault rifles from the public market as before 2008, when the ban ended.

We could protect children in gun owners homes with smart gun legislation that gun lobbyists opposed. Congress needs to act.

Massachusetts latest move to expand its assault weapons ban to a new class of rifles is a solution in search of a problem, according to gun rights groups who note the latest annual FBI statistics show not one murder was committed in the Bay State using a rifle of any kind.

State Attorney General Maura Healey announced this week the states more than 30-year-old ban on assault weapons would now be expanded to include rifles that look like, or can be modified to perform like, assault rifles. Healey cited recent mass shootings around the nation in recent years, and said expanding the definition of assault rifles would make citizens safer.

According to police, two males met on Saturday night at a Shell Food Mart to allegedly hook up for a sex act. At some point during the encounter, one drew a gun and forced the other to withdraw money from a near-by ATM.

When they returned to the Food Mart, the robber became more relaxed and put his gun down. Thats when police say the victim retrieved his own gun from his car. Some details are missing here but apparently the robbery victim then confronted the robber. At some point the robber was shot and killed.

The 2016 campaign season is heating up along with the rhetoric. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has attacked Donald Trump.

Ginsburgs negative comments regarding a political candidate, while not forbidden, certainly breaks a long standing protocol against such activities by judges and particularly, Supreme Court Justices. At the same time, President Obamas comment at the memorial service for the slain Dallas police officers, claiming that A Glock is easier to get than a computer, telegraphs the misinformation campaign that is going to be part of the Presidential Election.

Gun laws: Trump promised to defend the Second Amendment. A 57 percent majority in a Post-ABC poll released Sunday said they want the next president to support stricter gun-control laws, while 39 percent wanted a president who opposes them. The margin is opposite among Republicans, among whom two-thirds want the next president to oppose stricter gun laws.

But Trump has also mentioned that some recent terrorist acts could have been tempered if people being attacked were also armed. In June , 54 percent supported encouraging more Americans to carry guns legally for use in self-defense.

At least 40 of the people in attendance wore neon-green and -pink stickers that said "No Shooting Range." A few others, including the president of the Virginia Civil Defense League, stood in the aisles, donning their own brightly colored stickers labeled "Guns SAVE Lives."

The AR-15 Is The Musket Of Its Era

If it seemed a touch peculiar that the president would reserve his most vehement words of condemnation for a firearm, rest assured that it was. But, alas, it was also par for the course. In the eyes of Americas ever-zealous gun-controllers, the AR-15 represents all that is wrong with the right of the people to keep and bear arms, and, indeed, with the countrys culture at large.

In consequence, banning it is imperative not only in the fight against gun violence, but as a means by which individualism itself can be checked. Time and time again, those who own AR-15sor similarare cast as reactionaries, or bitter clingers, or, worst of all, as full-on terrorists.
