After reading Guns and Self-Defense, the wise reader will likely wonder why compelling and inspiring stories like these rarely make it into the national news stream. I believe they are suppressed because they belie the standard media narrative.

Buried in a Fresno Bee story about the number of active concealed carry permits in Fresno County, thanks to a female county sheriff who thinks bad guys should be kept guessing, is a revelation that the entire state of California, with many times the population of Washington, trails the Evergreen State when it comes to lawful concealed carry.

Sheriff Margaret Mims, according to the Crime Prevention Research Center, has encouraged county residents to get carry permits since she was first elected in 2006. She is not a proponent of open carry, however.

Introduced in 1980, the 9x21mm IMI was a creation between the Franco Benvenuti agency of Italy and Israel Military Industries (IMI). Many countries, including Italy and most of the European Union, have banned the use of all military ammunition, such as the 9mm Parabellum. In order to circumvent gun control measures, the collaborative effort to create a substitute ammunition was seen as a good resolution and would allow civilians to own and use a powerful cartridge without fear of repercussions.

A Washington Post analysis shows 75 percent of firearm murders since 1991 were committed with a handgun.
In other words, if the Democrats had put an assault weapons ban in place in 1991 and it was still in effect in 2019 it would have done nothing to stop three out of every four murders that occurred over the last 28 years.

On July 18th, Initiative Petition 40 was filed in Oregon to restrict the Second Amendment rights of law abiding adults by imposing a broad, one-size-fits-all method of storing firearms. This egregious attack on our freedoms uses virtually the same language as the failed Initiative Petition 44 from 2018 as well as the same provisions from Senate Bill 978 that did not pass during the 2019 legislative session.

You hear the same call for action in the wake of almost every tragedy involving a firearm: We need background checks, the gun haters say. Its a cure-all that will wipe out all such crime in our country. So about 20 years ago, the anti-gun crowd no doubt whooped when the National Instant Criminal Background Checks System (NICS) was created. Finally, well have no more crime involving guns, they said.

Barrie Miller, a muzzleloader gun builder from of Lafayette Hill, is an eclectic craftsman who likes to start with a classic gun kit and swap parts of the original with hardware, shapes and qualities that he prefers more. "I like flash pans that are pear-shaped" said Miller, who worked for many years as a re-enactor at Daniel Boone Homestead. "I think their shape directs the powder to the touch hole better. So if I am building a gun from the Allentown, Reading or York School of gunmaking, I use parts I like better than the original.

The right to keep and bear was written into The Bill of Rights as Amendment #2, but that doesnt mean people wont try to violate it. Unfortunately, our fight is against fellow Americans who think they know what is best for everyone. Their fear of what they dont understand and their lust for government control sends them down a destructive ideological path, which trades individual freedom for passive obedience.
