A new survey among likely voters in 18 key battleground states found the number one reason for firearm ownership is for protection and that most are opposed to arbitrary gun bans. The survey results, released by the National Shooting Sports Foundation on Monday, found that more than half believe self-defense is the primary motivation for firearm ownership. Moreover, almost 60 percent said that a ban on semi-automatic rifles would have little effect on crime, with 51 percent opposing a ban on such firearms. Just under half said a restriction on magazine capacity would have no effect on crime.

Two independent surveys released Tuesday show a majority of Americans think efforts to reduce police funding will result in a disaster producing more violent crime.

A new Rasmussen survey shows 66 percent of American adults now oppose reducing the police budget in the community where they live to channel that money into more social services. That percentage was up from the 59 percent revealed in early June polling, so it shows even more people have concluded that defunding police departments is a bad idea.

Look at us. Consider Los Angeles, Oakland, Boston, New York City, Trenton, and Baltimore. For good reason, each would call themselves a Democrat-controlled city. They have not had a Republican majority on their city councils in decades. Despite their words to the contrary, these cities are openly racist when it comes to fundamental human rights. The political left doesnt want to talk about it, but it is strikingly easy to prove. Discover it for yourself if you have doubts. Try to get a permit to legally carry a firearm in those cities. The results in those cities are consistently shocking.

On one Sunday in May, the city had its most violent day in 60 years, with 18 people killed. And last month, both the city and its suburbs saw widespread looting and violence with police unable to keep up.

We are in a time of historic responsibility, a time of fundamental threats to our freedom and, yes, a time of great opportunityif we dare to seize it. There are now tens of thousands of new gun owners; people who, in part because of this pandemic, have decided to embrace their Second Amendment rights for the first time. These people need our help. They need to know that here at the NRA we have the resources for them to find certified instructors (nrainstructors.org), the best gun-safety advice available (gunsafetyrules.nra.org) and a lot of how-to support from NRA Publications (nrapublications.org).

IL: Commentary- Illinois is Violating My Right to Bear Arms

For five years, I served my country honorably as a U.S. Marine, but as I transition back into civilian society, I find law and order at the mercy of the masses and my right to bear arms stalled due to insufficient government oversight and bureaucracy. Just like all citizens in Illinois, I have to ask the government for permission to buy or possess any kind of firearm by applying for a state license, known as a firearm owners identification (FOID) card. Illinois is one of only two states with this requirement. (The other is Massachusetts.) As if having to beg the state to exercise my constitutional right isnt bad enough, Illinois isnt following its own law and is failing to issue cards to people who qualify.

What does Ted Nugent have in common with FBI agents? What about Sonny Crockett from Miami Vice and the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) police department? If you guessed a 10mm Auto handgun, youre right! Designed by Lieutenant Colonel Jeff Cooper in 1983 to replace the .45 ACP as the perfect combat pistol, the 10mm has a flatter trajectory, transfers energy better from bullet to target, and holds its accuracy at a greater range than the .45 Auto. It features a cartridge short enough to use in a semi-automatic pistol, but one that still reaches the energy and power of revolver Magnum rounds.

Pistol Caliber Carbines

Pistol-caliber carbines is a firearm niche Ive overlooked in the past. It always seemed to me if I could get the cartridge in a handgun there wasnt much point to using it in a rifle. The only example I owned, long ago, was a Ruger .44 Magnum carbine. I liked its compact size and moderate weight. It was certainly more pleasant to shoot than my Ruger Super Blackhawk revolver but carbines for cartridges such as 9mm Luger, .40 S&W, .45 ACP didnt interest me much.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
You must understand, therefore, that there are two ways of fighting: by law or by force. The first way is natural to men, and the second to beasts. But as the first way often proves inadequate one must have recourse to the second. Niccolo Machiavelli in "The Prince."
